I am an avid animal print lover. I mean, I've got six pairs I know of leopard print shoes. But for some reason, I’ve got a little voice in my head that tells me that wearing animal prints in the summer is wrong.
Unlike age-old fashion dictates like wearing white only between Memorial and Labor Days, not mixing navy and black, match your purse to your shoes, etc., there are no rules saying "no leopard after Easter" or some such
nonsense, for me to feels like animal prints are a cold weather pattern
and should be reserved for fall and winter.
So I kind of have to get all of the catty animal print wearing out of my system in the next few weeks - yes, I have a deadline too of when I need to stop wearing the leopard too. I'm that weird.
Anyone else have any self-conceived fashion rules that they dress by? Or an I alone in my weirdness? Actually, don't answer that.
Sweater: J.Crew factory ocelot (worn here - sim, v-neck, long)
Dress: Banana Republic factory (worn here - sim, lace, peplum, black)
Belt: J.Crew (sim, w/bow)
Earrings: J.Crew crystal shimmer (worn here - sim, sim)
Bracelet: Ann Taylor pearl & pave cluster (worn here - sim, sim, deal)
Shoes: c/o ShoeMint rosemary (worn here - sim stacked heel, luxe, steal)
Bag: Kate Spade (worn here - sim luxe, satin, studded, mini red)
You look gorgeous. I love that orange dress and it pairs so well with the leopard sweater. I don't think I have an animal print rule, but I do tend to wear it a lot more in winter and fall! Also, nothing wrong with six pairs of leopard shoes!
ReplyDeleteOh another leopard-print loving gal like myself!
DeleteThe grey and that particular shade of orange play quite nicely together; must remember that color combo for next time. Does not wearing dark lipstick when the weather turns warm count as weird?
ReplyDeleteThen my not wearing dark nail polish when it gets warm out is also weird. So we can't both be weird, right? Hm ... ;o)
DeleteYou are lovable wearing animal prints ! And your cardigan goes perfect with your bright dress... luckily nowadays in fashion the old rules are out! ( as I have to confess that never pair my bag with my shoes! )
ReplyDeleteI never thought about animal print being a cold weather pattern, but I totally agree with you on that. There's a certain...heaviness about it? I have a ton of my own fashion rules, like navy and black (still can't), but they're mostly my own weird quirks, not based on anything.
ReplyDeleteLove the turquoise with the orange (red-orange?), of course. I'm so glad Kate Spade has brought back turquoise accessories, I just picked up a wallet last weekend.
You wore (and acquired) some great turquoise hue pieces on your recent Chicago trip. And that Anthro necklace - sweet!
DeleteHa ha! You're funny ; )
ReplyDeleteI pretty much wear whatever I want all year round. Even boots in the summer.
I love this outfit. So chic. To me it screams Spring/Summer.
bisous
Suzanne
You rock, girl!
DeleteThat orange dress is gorgeous with the grey leopard! I really think you can wear animal print year round...I never thought of it as just for winter.

I LOVE this outfit! You look smokin'!! You're not alone, for me, stripes have to be black or blue on white (white on black, white on blue, white on grey... those are all WRONG!) and polkadots should be white on navy, or white on black. I've got the cutest peplum top that's black polkadots on white which I am sloooowly getting used to, haha!
ReplyDeleteHigh five for personal style weirdness!
DeleteI feel like it totally depends on the color of the animal print! I wore a leopard print scarf recently and felt like it was more fit for fall, probably because of the black and tan colors which aren't super springy. But your pieces here are great, light colors and are perfect for the season! This combination of grey and orange is amazing!
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteI think it depedns on the color. Plus since so many animals prints are just saturated in gold tones they seem more a fit for fall. I have a light pink animal print top I will definitely be wearing all summer though!

Ooh, pink animal print - seems fit for you!
DeleteReally? But they look so good with pastels or fall colors too? I honestly have never really paid much attention to most fashion "rules". I didn't even know until blogging that you weren't supposed to wear black and brown together! Woops! I love the orange and leopard!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Lisa - Belle over at Capitol Hill Style (http://www.caphillstyle.com/) said she wears leopard print in the Fall/Winter, then switches to snakeskin in Spring/Summer. Seems like a good rule to me, but I have to say I have a pair of peep-toe leopard-print wedges that I wear with summer capris and love them!
ReplyDeleteI've seen some gals rock the leopard print sandals in the summer and they look fab! Maybe I need to look at some animal print sandals for warm weather ...
DeleteStunning! I am loving that orange and animal print together. Looks AMAZING on you Lisa.

Agreed!
DeleteI really like this red and gray combo, so pretty Lisa!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a nice printed cardi! I definitely think you should wear it more in the warmer months, leopard is a beautiful print :)
ReplyDeleteA lot of my animal print pieces are scarves so they do only get worn in the cooler weather, but I have some tees and singlets that I can and do wear when it's warmer :)
Away From Blue
Animal print tees, ooh, must consider that!
DeleteI still think about fashion rules even though I know they are outdated. It was difficult for me to not match my belt and shoes for a while. Or mixing gold and silver jewelry. Or not wearing pantyhose with a dress. I still feel like a rebel when I break those rules but thank goodness I do or I would look like an old lady!
ReplyDeletexo,cynthia
One "rule" I've def gotten over is wearing hose - I can't stand it and am barely wear black tights in the winter. Something about my legs feeling like sausages in casings ...
DeleteI don't really follow any fashion rule per say and do wear leopard year round. This color is just stunning on you!

I cannot abide by "fashion rules" because then my wearing would be so limited!
ReplyDeleteI love leopard print and there is no fall or winter here, just rainy season and summer -
Oh and i think you look fab, the colours are marvelous.
Too true!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous dress Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of weird fashion rules that I follow as well. It's weird because when other people break them, I often think they look amazing. Worst critic, right?
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I love the dress on you! Stunning!!

Something About That
this orange color is beautiful against your skin tone and the neutral leopard print perfectly tones it down while adding a fun print! as for me, plaid is a print I never seem to wear except in winter...
ReplyDeletecute & little
ohh love that orange sheath dress on you! i've recently become a big fan of sheath dresses! they just ooze elegance and sophistication!

I definitely agree that most animal print is more fall or winter...probably wouldn't stop me from wearing it though haha! You look great!
ReplyDeleteLovely combination. Suits you like a T. Love it. Seen all your post, but haven't commented on them. Sorry.
