This may sound like a total oxymoron, but I am probably the cheapest shopaholic you will find. I loooooove to shop, but I also looooove to save my pennies, so though I have no qualms about buying, I pretty much only do it if it is on sale or discounted - and with free shipping, of course!
So it's gotta be something real special to make me want to pay full price for it - like give me the full-on grabby hands palpitations. And well, this skirt did it.
And not only did it have me clickety-click my way through my shopping cart at record pace, but this skirt inspired me to go full into spring color mode, despite that right now it is probably the coldest it's been all winter in the SE - ah, the things we do for fashion love.
When was the last time you saw something you had to have? Are you a full price purchaser or a stalker for a deal?

I love this outfit!!!! It's adorable, as always! I really want to try this skirt!
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit and that skirt is fabulous. How do you come up with you color mixture ideas? They are always fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI just like to hold up clothes next to each other and do a lot of "eh, it's worth a try." ;o)
DeleteI totally get the cheap part, I get really caught up in buying cheap and cute and end up somehow spending more though! That probably doesn't make any sense, but I think you get what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask you in my previous post. What is that skirt fabric like? Is it light and flowy or is it more medium weight? I am a seamstress and I have found some very similar fabric. I am just not sure about how it compares to the real skirt fabric. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel - the material is more medium weight, it holds its shape well but doesn't swing or swish like more flowy skirts. The skirt itself is lavender and the red houndstooth is embroidered on. My only complaint is that I have to be carefuly to smooth out the skirt when sitting, or the front pleat kind of bunches up. Hope this helps!
DeleteI hate paying full price for an item too unless it was cheap to begin with :) I think shopping the clearance rack has turned me into such a cheapskate. Once you realize you can get a shirt for $5, everything else seems so expensive in comparison!

Well, I post my monthly purchases and I cannot deny it I save my pennies. I shop sales, discounts...
ReplyDeleteHowever, if there is something I REALLY, REALLY want - first i try to google similar items on line and if it's not happening
I may just indulge.
Definitely deal stalker. And free shipping all the way (with free returns). Asos is great for that and so is Target!
ReplyDeleteEbay is good for those "have to have" items :)

great skirt! Xo Megan, www.TfDiaries.com
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, it takes a whole lot to make me pay full price for an item. I know people in the fashion biz and they've always told me only "suckers" pay full price. That kind of stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteThat said, if I find something *so* special I will still buy it. But is has to be mighty mighty good. It has been so long that I've paid full price for any clothes that honestly I don't remember.
bisous

i remember seeing that skirt and falling in love with it too! SO cute. and can i just saw how cute your freckles are??? i love them. when i was little i used to always like it when mine came out on my nose after a day in the sun. now i have age spots which i don't love so much. but freckles=definitely cute. =)

Such a good point! I hate buying things full price at J. Crew because 99% of it goes on sale a few weeks later. There have only been a few items that I bought full price because I knew they would sell out before hitting the sale. I also like waiting for free shipping. At the same time tho, I feel like the ones that I did buy full price were worth it which gives me piece of mind :)
ReplyDeleteGreat skirt, Lisa! Definitely worth the splurge :)
Love this look - colors and patterns! PS. your freckles SO adorable :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh!!! That skirt is pretty much the ONLY thing I want from J.Crew right now!!! It is soooo cute! Now I just want it more--great post!!!!

Like you I have a REALLY hard time paying full price for things. Almost everything I own was purchased at a discount!
ReplyDeleteFizz and Frosting
I will pay full price if I absolutely have to have it and have an immediate reason to wear it. Recently I bought a pair of sandals in a boutique that I knew I'd never find online or anywhere else. The store only had 1pair in my size, so I just held my breath and bought them. If it is a just for fun item-I'll wait for a promo or discount.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the skirt. I've really wanted to try it, but have no need for it. How is the fabric? My online VPS had not seen it so she really could not tell me about the fabric. Is the sizing TTS? Thanks!!!!
Hi Julie - the fabric is medium weight and "structured." It doesn't swing or swish like a flowy skirt when you sit. As for sizing, I think it is pretty TTS - it sits pretyy high on your waist, though I am wearing the reg length and I'm only 5'2". Hope this helps!
DeleteGreat skirt! What size did you get Lisa?
ReplyDeleteI am very much a bargain hunter - I admit that I have missed out on lovely items in my quest to only get them on sale but I am attempting to let go of such attachment to material goods.
Besides there will always be something new that will fill that void.
www.indulgingmywanderlust.com
Hi Usha - I got a size 2. I typically vary between 0/2P/2 in J.Crew. This is def a more structured skirt with no stretch and 2 fit me well. Hope this helps!
DeleteOh my! This is such stunning look on you! I really love these colors and patterns together. Great spring look:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous combination! I am just in love with that skirt! Gorgeous!

probably yesterday. i did buy a pair of wool socks at jcrew. but then again they were 5.00. i love socks.
ReplyDeleteto be honest i will only really pay full price at a store like H&M - if its a cheaper, trendier item that i'll not wear long but is 15.00 then i'm okay with that. but i'm starting to realize that paying full price for quality items is better than paying cheaper prices multiple times just isn't efficient - or cost savvy.
hope this makes sense - its friday and i'm rambling.
I'm with you, girl, because I do the same thing!
DeleteLisa, I am so with you on the oxymoron. Love shopping and hate spending money haha. Just the way it goes though, and when you get a great pieces for little money it just makes it all the sweeter :)
ReplyDeletelove this color combo on you!
LOVE this skirt - definitely worth a little splurge. :)
ReplyDeleteI try my hardest to wait for deals - I'm a sucker for a good sale! But I definitely do splurge on "must have" items, too.

your polka dot blouse is super cute!
ReplyDeleteYummy combination, I love it! It looks like you´re SO ready for spring dressing. ;)

Cheapest shopaholic...that's spot on for me as well. I have to really love something to pay FP bc I just know it'll hit sale in 3 weeks or they'll be a pop back later. I am also weird and don't wear new buys for a while, so no reason not to wait til sale time - unless it's F21 and dirt cheap anyway. I've been drooling over this skirt, btw!
ReplyDeleteFabulous color combo!
ReplyDeleteOoh this looks so fab on you! Love it with that sweater!
ReplyDeleteI'm impatiently waiting the arrival of this skirt, and yes, I bought it at full price! I love the quirkiness of it!
Just hoping it fits me and isn't too short.... I'm 5' 1" ish and ordered 00P.....
So excited to see it on you - thanks for sharing it.
I'm only 5'2" and am wearing the reg length, I think the P will be fine on you!
DeleteI love this look! It has a very retro feel to it but yet modern! So chic! Love it!

ReplyDeleteNice skirt, really. You did right to splurge on it.
I also like to shope, but with sense :).
Well, since you're asking...I've to tell you that yesterday I saw a BEAUTIFUL scarf in a shop named THUN.I really did like it and I was kind of,shall I or shall I not :))?I didn't.But,maybe I will.I kept on thinking about that scarf all day today :))!I'll see...
XO
I don't usually immediately buy something. But if I spoke something and it's been days and I am still thinking about it, I figure I must need it somehow! ;o)
DeleteI can see why you fell in love with this skirt - the color combination & the cut is just perfect! I am in the school of not paying full price. I will only buy with coupons on a sale unless it's a inexpensive store like H&M or Old Navy where it's probably not worth saving a couple bucks.
ReplyDeleteLove all the fun colors together!

Oh I love the colors and patterns you used here Lisa!! I'm also a bi bargain shopper and love to save money :)
ReplyDeleteI hear you Lisa! I very rarely pay full price! Unless I'm buying from F21 or H&M...I consider those stores to have discounted prices (already)! When I shop at Gap, J.crew, etc....I always wait until they're having a sale of some sort! Love your skirt! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo chic! beautiful necklace <3
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures and I RESPECT shoes! This is a cool place to be at! Your blog is pretty awesome! I was just looking at some of your other posts and think it's really entertaining! I think you'll see some more of me here;)!

I wish I were more of a sale shopper. I'm a full-price buyer, because I'm always afraid I won't find it in my size if I wait. So if I love something, I buy it. I'm trying to rein myself in though. There's a lot less that I looove these days.
ReplyDeleteI love the turquoise with the pink...it's a great colour combo!
I know, I was putting clothes in my closet today and I am thinking I pretty much don't need to buy anything else for a while. I've got more than enough. Easier said than done though!
DeleteLove that skirt SO much! It's definitely on my wishlist! Looks great on you!
ReplyDeletelove those colors! and I'm with you - love a sale!
ReplyDeleteI really do love this Lisa! You're right, it's absolutely perfect for spring. I've always been obsessed with houndstooth so I can see why you wanted this skirt so badly. It's hard for me to pay full price too! I can't remember the last time I paid for something full price (unless I had a gift card).

Very nice outfit. Another combination I would never come up with. And looking at you I regret not being that creative. I struggle.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am a full retail price shopper. When the new things arrive in the shop I might be looking for sale articles but always leave the shop with the new collection. Which is why I work hard, full time. To earn the money to keep this up. LOL
I need to go shopping with you - it's fantastic to just be able to go and snag exactly what you want when you want it!
DeleteI love how you mix colors and patterns in your outfit
ReplyDeleteand it really looks good on you.
I just love shopping
and I shop a lot
and since I have a boutique I tend to look for things
that are not so expensive so that I can profit little.
I always stalk for a deal at Anthropologie because I find their dresses to be super expensive and when they go on sale the mark down is massive! Makes me think the original price is not worth paying. This skirt seems worth it though. Very classic and definitely has a Chanel feel to it. And if you compare to Chanel prices, this skirt was a steal!
ReplyDeleteI totally sale stalk Anthro too - when items hit sale they are usually almost 50% off retail and you know those guys are still making money!
DeleteIt really depends on whether I think I can get a lower price. The last full-price item I bought was a chevron skirt at Target ($20). They only had a few left, and I knew it would sell quickly by the time it even got to a "Target sale" (i.e., $1.50 off). However, I can't remember the last time I bought anything full price at mall stores (like The Limited, Banana, or even Old Navy).. because I KNOW I can get it for less. Also, I admittedly buy full price at Forever 21, but only once in a while.
ReplyDeleteKate @ A Journey in Style
You gotta be careful with the quality on things at F21, but I've got some winners there for a steal!
DeleteLately, I've been stalking items. I'll usually pin them and then check to see if anything is on sale or not. Stores haven't been selling out of things lately (online) so that's pretty good.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.averysweetblog.com/
Hi Love! I saw this skirt in the store, and was of course, obsessed with it! I tried it on and sadly, it was not so amazing on me.... :/ So I left it. . . but it was so, so pretty! Great buy!

What a fabulous skirt! I don't blame you one bit for snatching it up at full price:) Like you, I am typically a sale stalker, but every once in a while I come across something that I don't want to take a chance on.
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is amazing! I am ready to bring on the Spring as well!
ReplyDeleteI love that skirt! I have a J. Crew gift certificate that has been burning a hole in my wallet, and I'm still trying to be good and wait until pieces go on sale, but it's SO HARD! :) You look lovely - I love the spring colors!
ReplyDeleteI usually wait for items to hit sale at JC because some items seem to go on sale really fast - but there have been pieces I really adored and lost out on because they never made it. But - JC always has good sales!
DeleteThe skirt is gorgeous Lisa, I've been thinking about it too! Love your fun take on it :)
ReplyDeletelove the color of your sweater - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt..Very cute combo..

There is absolutely nothing wrong with saving your pennies when you shop. I think that shows the mark of a true fashionista. One who can choose wisely and not succumb to just any look. I think I am in love with that darling houndstooth skirt. Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThis color combo is making me crave Spring soooo badly - that mint and orange could not be more perfect (and I never would have thought to put this together). You look fabulous!

I'm not an impulsive buyer and tend to mull over my purchases for the most part, only to end up missing the item! In short, I'm definitely a stalker for deals and tend to shop during sales. I try not to pay for retail prices whenever I can! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love how you paired the colors and prints in this outfit. Lovely!

Love the entire outfit! I am a bargain hunter and yes I also buy cheap but nice clothes. I don't go for brands actually, unless it's on sale and I really like. If I see something that would be a great addition to my wardrobe, I would buy it. Just recently, I saw new items from the online shop where I get most of my cheap buys. They're on a bargain but didn't get it. Now they're all sold out. I should have bought everything!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh, wow! looks soo lovely :)
