Trying a Fave

orange  orange

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love the color orange. I lean towards the more red tone orange hues (like J.Crew's "modern red") because I find that more flattering on my complexion, and I get the punch of red without its harshness.

I'm playing catch-up with orange though, as it yet another something that I stayed clear away from before I started blogging - i.e., going outside my natural comfort zone with my own style. Chalk orange up along with wearing pink, belts, skirts, dresses, pretty much all accessories.

(Think of all the stylish things I would have missed if I hadn't started a blog and began experimenting!)

Granted I'm not jumping on every single trend out there (like this - thinking folks at the office might talk), but I'm all for trying interesting new things at least once. Sometimes things don't quite work out harem pants, other times I end up with a new fave color that I wear over and over and over again.

  1. WTF to the nose or ear jewel cuff?!?

Orange is fantastic, I'm quite partial to it myself. Love it with that tiny bit of turquoise. :)

  2. This stunning Lisa, for spring, summer, autumn. A very versatile dress!

  3. I love orangey red myself, it is very flattering on my skin tone and it looks so vibrant! I think you look radiant in that dress :)

  4. You look absolutely stunning, Lisa! I love the way you combined so many different colors - it's incredibly chic...and perfect for all seasons! :)

  5. WAHAHAHA! That nose cuff made my day! XD

Know what you mean about trying out a new colour - the risk is that if you love it, you just won't be able to stop yourself from picking up more things in that colour, right? (Btw. if you had to pick an all-time favourite colour, would it be orange? Or green? Or...what?) I was looking at your old links, and I love your fluffed-up hair! So cute! Anyways, you look smashing in your orange dress and striped blazer. Thanks for the striped blazer inspo! ;)

And yeah, blogging has totally made me braver in trying things out too. Which is nice. Even if we do end up second-guessing what we wore one time or another. :)

    1. I'm overdue to get my hair done again - not sure if I'll be brave enough to go bob-length again, but I'd love to have more bounce.

I think my stand-by answer for fave color is blue ... though I do have a lot of orange in my closet now ...

  6. Beautiful as usual. Love the belt with the jacket/dress. Love it all.

Blogging has made me braver for sure, though I still sometimes find myself taking off my jewelry/accessories mid-day (sometimes too heavy, sometimes just too much...).

That red/orange is divine on you, one of the best colors from J. Crew, really. You glow in that shade.

  16. I used to shy away from orange myself. I always thought it would wash me out like most shades of yellow do. I was pleasantly surprised that I was actually able to pull it off. Now there are quite a few orange pieces in my closet.
You look so elegant in this outfit, Lisa! Love that striped blazer!

  17. Hilarious nose ring/cuff. I can't even imagine trying to pull that off. It might make a great Halloween costume accessory....

  18. You look fabulous in orange! I don't know why I'm so against the color myself...maybe because I'm worried with my orange hair I'll look like a giant pumpkin. As a side note, I really like how you posed your different pieces together to show the different colors, prints, and textures of your outfit. I'm glad I've found your blog. You're going to be great inspiration for color and pattern mixing - I can tell!

  19. What?! Are people seriously wearing these nose cuff things?! Whoah. I think you look great in orange. I'm still scared of it, because of my complexion and hair I think. Maybe a toned down version might work for me.

    1. I don't think you can beat Lenox for its shopping in general, but a lot of times new stuff is sold out really quickly at that JC store, so I personally prefer the Perimeter location. However they just opened a store at the Westside Provisions District (kind of by where the Ikea is) that I haven't been to yet, so who knows, that one may rock.

  41. ha ha! I'm so glad I'm not the only one to succumb to the lure of the harem pants and be disillusioned with them.

This colour is fabulous on you. It is funny since for so long I thought it was unflattering to all skin tones. Turns out the right colour of orange will work for all skin tones.

This dress is very MadMen. I love it.
