As the temps slowly creep up, I'm able to cautiously start baring limbs to the world (Northeasterners and Midwesterners, I know, I'm sorry, you guys are still buried), which of course makes me very apparent of how ridiculously pale I am. Liked uncooked plucked chicken pale.
But you all might as well get used to seeing this pasty hue because when I go out into the sun, I have two tan settings - blazing swollen red and burnt to a crisp peeling. At no point do I ever achieve that beautiful golden tawny setting. So in an attempt to not turn into one giant freckle, I am pretty much planning to eschew spending any long-term time in the sun as it starts getting warmer.
(No worries, I won't turn into one of those weird pale ladies walking around in July covered head-to-toe and carrying a huge black umbrella ... though you think I could bring frilly lacy parasols back?)

ReplyDeleteThe leopard print is so nice with the lace! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm the same with the sun - pale all year round as I just go red if I get too much sun!
Away From Blue
I think you should bring lacy parasols back! I know a lot of pale girls who think they should be a thing again.
ReplyDeleteI think I do need to look up parasols - I don't even know who sells them!
DeleteI love how you paired the leopard with the lace...a nice mix of sassy and sweet!

ha- you could totally work a parasol with this leopard and lace and amazing red flats! I am slightly jealous of your spring weather of course, but ready to live vicariously until I get my own.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about most of the SE is that we'll get about two weeks of really nice spring weather, then BOOM - hot humid summer through October!
DeleteThe total look is awesome but I have got to hand it to the accessories (belt, bag)......they nailed it all together!

I would love to see parasols come back personally! I love this combo very much! I think all of our skin could use some vitamin D after that long winter!
ReplyDeleteyou're so cute! I love parasols personally. But, I don't own any. I should get one! =D

You, I think, could actually rock a parasol, girl.
Deletei have those same two tanning settings!! i spend a lot of money on sunscreen in the summer! i love this skirt on you, and it's perfect with those shoes!
ReplyDeleteMe too - though honestly sunscreen is a pain!
Deleteso cute!! adore that pleated leopard skirt hon!

That skirt is from Forever 21??? I love it with the red shoes. I stay out of the sun as much as I can which is hard living in South Florida. It's weird - my legs and arms tan nice but I get a big red nose if I'm out too long. I am the one at the soccer game with an umbrella. Plus, no wrinkles from no sun, right?
ReplyDeleteI just burn and freckle, burn and freckle ...
DeleteLisa, I love that skirt! So cute! LOL about the chicken comment. I'm pale too! It's crazy!

Love the top and pops of read in this outfit. Yes, Lisa I think you can bring back lace parasols! Now go be a trend setter and let us know where to buy some! ;)
ReplyDeleteHm, I wonder if Kate Spade has a cute one ...
DeleteWhat an utterly brilliant idea! And I'd just finished reading the Parasol Protectorate series and was actually thinking similar thoughts. Growing up in the Philippines, my mom always told us to hide from the sun because "getting darker" meant being a laborer and thus lower class. I know, I know - it was such a medieval, feudal way of thinking, but there ya go. But yeah, I never got over that and am constantly slathering myself with sunscreen and ducking under eaves to prevent sun exposure. In sunny SoCal. Perhaps I could start a parasol trend too. ;p
ReplyDeleteAh, to think back fondly to my teens and college years where it didn't matter a blip about being out in the sun uncovered (and un-SPF'd) ... I've got many a freckle today as reminders ...
DeleteI, too, am a pale princess, and I turn into a lobster within minutes of sun exposure.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love this outfit, as it has many of my favorite elements: leopard, lace, and bows! I might just have to order the ModCloth shoes you linked to...
ModCloth does offer free ship for orders over $50 and free returns on everything ...
DeleteThat top is darling! The snow is just starting to melt by me, and I'm so happy :)
ReplyDeleteThe snow is gone here and we are having gorgeous Spring temperatures.
ReplyDeleteI love the lace with the leopard! It's so pretty, especially with the pop of color on the shoes!

Lisa, I love your grey Leo skirt and bright striped bag, a masterful mix! I personally like pale skin, which is good because I avoid the sun and do not mind my pallor. Love the red nails and pearls , too!

dawn
I would have never guessed this skirt was from F21!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, I will join you with my pasty white limbs in 3 months or so.... :D I don't do suntanning either.
ReplyDeleteCute outfit!
I occasionally do the self-tan cream but it never lasts and it's a mess!
DeleteI like the skirt! And the shoes are a great pop of colour.
ReplyDeleteLots of women in Korea use parasols... my mom has been in Canada now for almost 50 years and she still occasionally walks around with a parasol!
I need to look into parasols - wonder if Anthro or Kate Spade makes a cute one ...
DeleteLovin the accessories you are rocking with this outfit ;)
ReplyDeletekatattack2000.wordpress.com
Such a pretty top! Love the contrast with the red striped clutch!
ReplyDeleteI am turning into one of those ladies who is covered head to toe in July. Either that, or I am covered in SPF 55 which gets all over everything! You are so right to stay careful. It is scary to watch past sunburns creep out as old freckled skin as you get older. Sigh... I should have listened to my mom back when I was a know it all teenager. LOL But I was a teenager in Florida! We were all radio active back then.
xo,cynthia
Slathering on SPF is honestly a pain, but so is being completely covered when it is hot as heck outside ... but a girl's gotta do what she gotta do ...
DeleteLove that necklace! In my neighborhood, we have a lot of ladies that wear long gloves with a giant bill visor when they are driving. It looks a bit funny but they have nice smooth skin. I lived in the sun way too much as a kid and prefer the shade now days.
