Mixing it around and matching it up for today's outfit. I first grabbed this scarf and it all went up- (or down-, depends if you like the outfit, haha) hill from there.
As much as I am bad at planning an outfit, when it comes time to actually put something together so I can wear it, I usually start by grabbing a piece that stands out to me and building from there. For this ensemble, the scarf caught my eye first because it hasn't nearly gotten enough love lately. Then I automatically reached for this vest because I've worn it with the scarf before and liked it together. Then the tee because it is new, and because herringbone and stripes need to be with each other, right? Finally the shoes - do I even need to explain the shoes? (And they're patent and a low heel - practically an all-weather shoe!)
Vest: J.Crew excursion (worn here - latest in solid, sim in taupe, furry)
Top: J.Crew jeweled stripe (same in more sizes)
Jeans: Levis (worn here - sim, sim)
Scarf: Loft (worn here - sim, B&W, pricey)
Earrings: J.Crew crystal shimmer (worn here - sim smaller)
Bracelets: F21 luxe faux pearl set, J.Crew (sim, spiked), Rachel Leigh (sim striped)
Shoes: Audrey Brooke via DSW mary (worn here - sim, slingback)
Bag: J.Crew claremont (sim, smaller)
I often build outfits backwards too, I start with the accessories and figure out what goes with them. :) Yours all works!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love the arm candy!

I'm bad at planning outfits too! I never stick with what I pick out..! LOL
ReplyDeletePS - OMG Loving those shoes so so much - may need to purchase....... :)

Lisa, I absolutely adore this outfit! It all blends. Love that vest and stripey tee! The scarf looks great and those shoes. I've gotta get a pair of red patent shoes. The bows on them and your jewelry top it off. Pinned this! Love it!

One of the main reasons I follow your blog religiously is because you create the most ingenious and thoughtful ensembles that don't make me want to shop. It's like I'm admiring art, you know? So I know, when I open my Respect the Shoes link, I won't be tempted to shop or dupe your look - you're in a league of your own. But a very accessible, non-intimidating league. Argh. What am I saying? I'll just shut up now and say I lurve this outfit in so many ways. Happy Monday! :D
ReplyDeleteHaha, aw, thanks! But feel free to dupe - we're all here to inspire each other with our outfit ensembles and make us all think of new ways to wear our clothing, right?
DeleteAdorable outfit! I like the idea of grabbing one piece of clothing at a time and then building an outfit around that one article. I'm trying to do this more with older pieces from my wardrobe in order to make them new.
ReplyDeleteGood point! I am so guilty for pulling something out of my closet and realizing that I hadn't worn it yet in a season! Yikes - too much stuff ...
DeleteI do like this outfit! I think it all works. And those shoes? I mean come on. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteJenni
Gorgeous outfit on you!! I love the red pumps a lot~~!! xo

great tip on where to begin an outfit! thanks, going to try that out! :)
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this outfit! I tend to pick out a piece of clothing/accessory that I want to wear and work from there. I am in love with those heels - are they comfy?

The love heel makes it work. They pretty much smashed my toes the first time I wore them, but they're much better now. Granted I wouldn't wear these things walking around for 10 hours straight or anything, but they're not bad for non-expensive shoes!
DeleteLove the bright scarf with the herringbone and stripes! :) Sometimes I build my outfits around my accessories too :)
ReplyDeleteAway From Blue
This is the best pattern mixing I've seen in awhile. That scarf is incredible!
ReplyDelete(If you're interested, my current giveaway is for a delicate sterling silver arrow necklace from Chloe + Isabel.)
I love that those pumps are 'an all weather shoe' too funny! I think the scarf is beautiful and must admit I've got a bunch of printed scarves who do not get nearly enough love in my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
I think I need more printed scarves, they are a great accessory!
DeleteI love all the mixing of prints here! Fun yet chic!

gorgeous! I often get dressed based on an accessory...like, this time of year the tights come first and then whatever 'matches' in an interesting way (that I can find among the clutter...sigh) This is lovely, and looks simultaneously warm and springy!
ReplyDeleteI'm so against wearing tights this winter ... good thing it's been mild so far in the SE (except now, now we get "icepocalypse" da-da-DA!)
DeleteI love how this came together! That scarf is gorgeous and I adore those shoes!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute look! I love the mixing of patters. And those shoes are too cute!!

This is such a great vest! I love that it has a fun herringbone pattern. Also, this outfit with the scarf-- totally genius!
ReplyDeleteyou look fantastic Lisa! xo
ReplyDeleteI love the way you put these patterns together!
ReplyDeleteI take a similar approach to getting dressed. I just hate putting a total outfit together the night before, putting it on, and hating it. So much easier when you're sure about just one thing.

Something About That
How fabulous are those shoes? Red, patent leather and a bow! What more can you ask for? Thanks for putting the slingback option...I can't wear normal heels.
ReplyDeleteI can't stop staring at your shoes Lisa!! Shoe perfection!! I love all the pattern mixing too :)
ReplyDeleteYou are right.. Easy. Just would not have thought of putting the vest and the T together. Apparently to you it is like one and one is two...
ReplyDeleteLooks great.
