Second - let's consider this my officially unofficial early Valentine's Day outfit. Now, you all know I am all about the matchy-matchy, but few of you probably realize the ridiculous amount of time I spend trying to look like I don't try. You know, that utterly exhausting "effortless" thing, which I know I am a big ole failure at - I try, isn't that obvious?

Now as much as I try to not try, one thing I am typically not big on is looking too occasion-appropriate, especially when it comes to holidays. I am that girl who does holiday dressing in any color other than green and red. That girl who refuses pastels for Easter. Who will pretty wear red, white, blue on any day other than the Fourth of July. Yep, that's also me in the "this IS my costume" t-shirt on Halloween.

So today's outfit is borderline too sweet for me. Even though it is isolated of any frills or poufs or anything considered too overly girly, I did almost snark at myself in the mirror in the morning. I know I am probably one hair bow or string of pearls away from a box of red velour heart-shaped  chocolates.

How do you feel about theme dressing? Do you enjoy getting into the spirit of whatever the occasion is, or does it feel too costume-y?

  1. I love this colour combo. I think the snow leopard breaks up the whole "too much icing on the cake" idea and pink with red is such a cool colour combo. This hits the nail on the head.

  2. The leopard is so unexpected and that's why I love it for a Valentine's Day look! I'm not too big on dressing in holiday colors either...it kinda makes me feel like I'm 5, haha.

    1. I personally blame watching Bridget Jones' Diary and all the bad talk about "Christmas jumpers." AND Ugly Sweater Day come December.

  4. I love that outfit. The red and pink look awesome together and the leopard just sets it off and those shoes are AH-MAZING!!!!! I think I am going to have to copy you tomorrow for Valentines day. I always love your outfits but this is my favorite one you have ever worn.

  5. Darling look! I think theme dressing is a lot of fun and I need to do it more often!

  6. I actually love theme dressing as long as it looks modern and doesn't involve ridiculous Christmas sweaters or shoulder-pads. I think this look is spot on. You look adorable and I love the leopard print. Also, these shoes are my new love.

  7. When I look at your outfit, I don't think girlie girl. It reminds me of a girl with edge thanks to the leopard skirt and matching of the pink and red. :) xoxo, Phoebe

  9. This is a beautiful interpretation of Valentine's Day! Love that skirt. I tend to get pretty schmoopy on Valentine's Day so red is almost always part of the look, but like you I try not to go overboard.

  10. I am kind of wishy washy when it comes to holiday dressing--sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Regardless, I love this skirt on you!

  13. Hm...I don't usually theme-dress but seeing so many ladies with pink/red outfits (CUTE ones too!) these past few days has me feeling like the oddball out. So much so that I've been thinking of pink/red outfits to wear for the big day. Let's face it, though, I'll probably end up in a nice black dress...

  18. Hey, I thought this outfit was actually pretty fierce, and not too cute at all! Colour blocking and leopard, that's cool, you know?

Totally get what you mean about not wearing red or green for Christmas, but I always co-ordinate my colours for May 17th, which is Norway's national holiday to match our red, white and blue flag instead.

  19. I love this outfit! I definitely don't find it too cutesy!

  21. Usually, reds and pinks are paired with neutrals but your color combos are the best so far that I've seen! You can totally pull out coordinates like this one.I really admire you for your 'out of the box' outfit ideas :) I never doubt red as it fits all skin tones. But wearing an alternative bright color is something new and fresh to the eyes. I wouldn't mind wearing blues and whites on V-day lol!

    1. I love when people wear blue and white for Christmas - it's like a nod to the holidays and the "winter wonderlandness" of it all, but not sure blatant like red/green everything.

  22. If I do decide to go with the theme I don't like to be too matchy-matchy. Every time I see one of your outfits I think I need more accessories. Happy Valentine's Day :)

  25. I definitely feel the same way about dressing for the holidays, and about looking like I didn't try too hard while getting dressed in the morning, little does everyone else know, I spend way too much time thinking about it and throwing on different outfits.

I do love that skirt though! And the heels, they're gorgeous.

  37. I love this outfit. I'm allllllll pink & red today and I kinda of gagged at myself before I left but then I thought "meh, I'm goin for it!" I'm typically more like you in that I tend to stay away from the traditional "costumes" for holidays. But sometimes I give in and give myself over to the holiday gods - like today :-)

  42. I love this outfit! Especially the shoes-- those are, so, so cute. I don't necessarily dress in holiday themes, but I do tend to dress by 'feeling'-- like if I'm in the mood to feel sweet and quirky and vintage-y (which, let's face it, is all the time), I almost never mix in a more modern touch.
