Second - let's consider this my officially unofficial early Valentine's Day outfit. Now, you all know I am all about the matchy-matchy, but few of you probably realize the ridiculous amount of time I spend trying to look like I don't try. You know, that utterly exhausting "effortless" thing, which I know I am a big ole failure at - I try, isn't that obvious?
Now as much as I try to not try, one thing I am typically not big on is looking too occasion-appropriate, especially when it comes to holidays. I am that girl who does holiday dressing in any color other than green and red. That girl who refuses pastels for Easter. Who will pretty wear red, white, blue on any day other than the Fourth of July. Yep, that's also me in the "this IS my costume" t-shirt on Halloween.
So today's outfit is borderline too sweet for me. Even though it is isolated of any frills or poufs or anything considered too overly girly, I did almost snark at myself in the mirror in the morning. I know I am probably one hair bow or string of pearls away from a box of red velour heart-shaped chocolates.
How do you feel about theme dressing? Do you enjoy getting into the spirit of whatever the occasion is, or does it feel too costume-y?
Top: J.Crew factory merino pullover (worn here - sim, sim)
Skirt: F21 pleated leopard (worn here - sim, sim, hi-lo)
Belt: J.Crew (sim, deal, steal)
Clutch: Kate Spade (worn here - sim, sim, sim)
Necklaces: C.Wonder square stone (sim, pricey, bows) & The Circle is Cast via Etsy (sim, pricey)
Bracelets: Glitterbox Jewelry via Etsy (sim, sim), C. Wonder pave initial (sim, enamel), F21 & Asos
Shoes: Audrey Brooke via DSW mary (sim, sim, taller, flats)
I love this colour combo. I think the snow leopard breaks up the whole "too much icing on the cake" idea and pink with red is such a cool colour combo. This hits the nail on the head.

Haha, "too much icing on the cake" sounds about right!
DeleteThe leopard is so unexpected and that's why I love it for a Valentine's Day look! I'm not too big on dressing in holiday colors either...it kinda makes me feel like I'm 5, haha.

I personally blame watching Bridget Jones' Diary and all the bad talk about "Christmas jumpers." AND Ugly Sweater Day come December.
DeleteYour outfit is perfect! It totally says V-day WITHOUT being obvious like you wanted.
ReplyDeleteI love that outfit. The red and pink look awesome together and the leopard just sets it off and those shoes are AH-MAZING!!!!! I think I am going to have to copy you tomorrow for Valentines day. I always love your outfits but this is my favorite one you have ever worn.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Rachel!
DeleteDarling look! I think theme dressing is a lot of fun and I need to do it more often!
ReplyDeleteI actually love theme dressing as long as it looks modern and doesn't involve ridiculous Christmas sweaters or shoulder-pads. I think this look is spot on. You look adorable and I love the leopard print. Also, these shoes are my new love.
ReplyDeleteWhen I look at your outfit, I don't think girlie girl. It reminds me of a girl with edge thanks to the leopard skirt and matching of the pink and red. :) xoxo, Phoebe
ReplyDeleteas long as i look like a professional adult then i'm all good. ;) your shoes are SO pretty though!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful interpretation of Valentine's Day! Love that skirt. I tend to get pretty schmoopy on Valentine's Day so red is almost always part of the look, but like you I try not to go overboard.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of wishy washy when it comes to holiday dressing--sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Regardless, I love this skirt on you!
ReplyDeleteI love this as a Valentine's Day outfit - and I ADORE those last two pictures! Great shots!

See Mo Go.
Such a perfect Valentine's Day outfit! I love the color combo and the leopard!
ReplyDeleteHm...I don't usually theme-dress but seeing so many ladies with pink/red outfits (CUTE ones too!) these past few days has me feeling like the oddball out. So much so that I've been thinking of pink/red outfits to wear for the big day. Let's face it, though, I'll probably end up in a nice black dress...
ReplyDeleteFashionEdible Blog
Hey, black is never out of style! And you'll probably end up being the standout in a crowd by NOT wearing red!
Deletelisa, you did a fabulous job! this is a great twist! i love that leopard, pink and red together. you ROCKED it girl!

wow, this is very feminine for you! it looks adorable, tho. i'm an anti-holiday dresser, too. don't know why.

Hey, I thought this outfit was actually pretty fierce, and not too cute at all! Colour blocking and leopard, that's cool, you know?
ReplyDeleteTotally get what you mean about not wearing red or green for Christmas, but I always co-ordinate my colours for May 17th, which is Norway's national holiday to match our red, white and blue flag instead.
I love this outfit! I definitely don't find it too cutesy!
ReplyDeleteFizz and Frosting
Those accessories are soooo pretty! I love this animal print and pink, such a unique and fun combo!

Usually, reds and pinks are paired with neutrals but your color combos are the best so far that I've seen! You can totally pull out coordinates like this one.I really admire you for your 'out of the box' outfit ideas :) I never doubt red as it fits all skin tones. But wearing an alternative bright color is something new and fresh to the eyes. I wouldn't mind wearing blues and whites on V-day lol!
ReplyDeleteI love when people wear blue and white for Christmas - it's like a nod to the holidays and the "winter wonderlandness" of it all, but not sure blatant like red/green everything.
DeleteIf I do decide to go with the theme I don't like to be too matchy-matchy. Every time I see one of your outfits I think I need more accessories. Happy Valentine's Day :)
ReplyDeleteMy accessories are the same old ones as always, I just pile them on!
Deletei'm not big on theme dressing either but your leopard is really roaring the theme out! :)
ReplyDeleteyou look fantastic and the shoes are amazing. xox P

ReplyDeleteLove the leopard skirt, and the pairing of red with pink.
Chic on the Cheap
Weekends are tough for me because I want to be cas but still stylish - and of course, look like I've made no effort even though I did!
DeleteI definitely feel the same way about dressing for the holidays, and about looking like I didn't try too hard while getting dressed in the morning, little does everyone else know, I spend way too much time thinking about it and throwing on different outfits.
ReplyDeleteI do love that skirt though! And the heels, they're gorgeous.
I am in love with this outfit! Love the combo of pink/red with leopard. I have some similar pieces in my closet...this will be a copy outfit :)

I love this outfit. I'm allllllll pink & red today and I kinda of gagged at myself before I left but then I thought "meh, I'm goin for it!" I'm typically more like you in that I tend to stay away from the traditional "costumes" for holidays. But sometimes I give in and give myself over to the holiday gods - like today :-)
ReplyDeleteWell I hope you got loads of good sweets out of that deal! ;o)
DeleteYour top is so pretty and love your shoes!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by pret-a-vivre. What a fun outfit :-)

I love this outfit! Especially the shoes-- those are, so, so cute. I don't necessarily dress in holiday themes, but I do tend to dress by 'feeling'-- like if I'm in the mood to feel sweet and quirky and vintage-y (which, let's face it, is all the time), I almost never mix in a more modern touch.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of valentine's outfit posts floating around in blog world, and yours might be my favorite! Such a fun look!
ReplyDeletevery ladylike!

I think this outfit is festive without being too over the top - very tasteful. The leopard is my favorite part!
ReplyDeleteHoly wallops!!! Your calves are awesome! I'd say you're either a runner or a dancer, most likely ballet. Which one of those is correct?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment, but unfortunately I am neither. I can thank my dad for my legs and feet as I take after him in that regard - I haven't really done athletics since high school and college!
DeleteHi! I just came back to your blog now and just saw your reply! To be honest I wasn't really expecting you to reply!! Well, you are blessed indeed! Hope you're proud of them!
