Oversized

Though it doesn't always work for a shortie like me, I have a love for oversized clothes. Partly because some part of my mind hasn't yet settled into the realization that I will never ever look like one of those gazelle-like glamazons (i.e., normal height people) that can make an extra large piece of clothing the perfect kind of slouchy stylish. And partly because bigger-than-needed clothes are comfy. No self-consciousness needed, no wondering about muffin top leakage required.

So I was kind of excited about this big ole sweatshirt I picked out from Choies. The lacy hem originally was a little longer than I preferred, so I sewed the trim up a few inches, then proceeded to romp around town on Sunday in it - wearing it to brunch with some blue heels, then casual-ing it up with some boots and a colorful scarf for the afternoon. Then it was way too easy to grab it again for some errand-running after work one day.

And I didn't have to suck it in once.

  3. I love a good over-sized tee or sweatshirt. It hides all my postpartum woes and if the fit is right, still looks good! Love the bit of lace on your sweatshirt. Lots of fun combos, I especially like the one with the scarf.

    1. And a good thing about wearing a sweatshirt made of completely unnatural fibers? Doesn't breathe well, meaning it's oh so warm in the cool weather!

  4. Really cute! I too have a hard time pulling off that "meant to be oversized" look. And, I have been obsessed with lace hems lately! I plan to do another post about them soon as I have acquired yet another sweater with one!

  5. As a fellow shorty, I have the same problem! I have to accept that I'll never look lithe in oversized clothes, but I love them anyway! It's a really cute shirt!

    1. I've got kind of broad shoulders anyways, so lithe is never a look I could achieve!

  7. I LOVE oversized pieces...mainly because I can wear them with leggings. :) This oversized striped sweater is fabulous...so cute with the chambray layered under it.

  9. I have a love hate relationship with oversized clothes. Love how they feel, hate how they look. You are right, they always look good on super tall, leggy thin gals.

My favourite look of yours is with the leggings and the blue heels.

    Have a great weekend!

  10. Oh cute sweatshirt! I really like how you shortened the lace, I like it better this way. All three looks are great!

  11. Ahh...I love it! The lace trim is so cute. I love it with leggings and high boots and a scarf. I would wear that outfit every weekend!

  12. Oversized is great. It's so comfortable! And your sweatshirt is flatteringly oversized, not like some of the stuff I wear around the house. I'd be embarrassed if there were a fire and I had to flee my condo...

  15. Lisa, you look super chic in your over sized sweatshirt! The lace hem is darling. Ya know...I am relatively tall but always feel like a giant hulking football player in big clothing. Maybe the proportions on over sized clothing needs to be spot on to make it work? Like what you just did with this outfit. It's perfect on you!

  23. Yes for oversized tops! I'm also short and have the same attraction to slouchy things. I think hemming it was a good decision! Your accessory choices are gorgeous. And yay for cute outfits that don't require sucking in. :)

  29. I love this outfit! I know what you mean, I'm 5'1 so oversized clothes sometimes make me look like I'm drowning in them. You really pull this this one off well, though.

  32. I love oversized clothes because they kind of feel like socially-appropriate snuggies. I feel like I'm walking around in a hug!

Case in point, I bought a super-soft jersey maxi nightgown at Target, a size too big. I now wear it around the house like a muumuu and never want to take it off. Sigh.
