Unproductive Plaid

ruffle plaid  ruffle plaid

Honestly the last thing I want to do right now is think about the holidays because I've done all of nothing for Christmas yet and retailers just have a way of making you feel like you're late already. Mainly because I have to figure out how to acquire a PlayStation 4 which is about zero percent possibility right now. So instead of doing anything actually productive over the weekend, I instead did these things -

Watched Pacific Rim over the weekend and temporarily satiated my inner robot-loving fan girl (I was a huge Voltron fan when I was itty bitty). Now I also have official crushes on Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Striker Eureka.

Murdered some mollusks when I made mussels in white wine. It was my first time cooking shellfish so I was a bit nervous. Those suckers were alive! I kept apologizing to them when I was dumping them into the hot broth - I don't think I'm woman enough to try cooking my own lobsters.

Tried repeatedly to master the outfit selfie with my camera phone. Still Fail.

Realized I cannot get out of Target without spending at least $100 (granted the one I go to sells groceries, so that's my excuse). Where else can I grab apples, bread, toilet cleaner and seriously contemplate buying a giant ceramic stag head?

Took afternoon naps on the couch because for some reason doing nothing over the weekend necessitates two days of going to sleep at two a.m. and getting up at eight a.m. Now that may be more than enough sleep for some of you ladies, but I need my zzzzs. I am totally one of those people who would rather sleep than party - now someone please go get my walker, because I'm apparently late to bingo at the seniors center.

Wonder if I'm the only person alive that hasn't purchased that striped Starbucks mug yet.

So, did you ladies manage to do anything unproductive this weekend?

  1. Yeah...I went to target twice this weekend and realized it was also impossible to get out of there under $100. Everything just sucks me in! Plus I get throw in some groceries so I guess I am making SOME progress.

I love the plaid on you Lisa. It's gorgeous and reminds me of the perfect top to wear for the holidays. But I'm not quite in the holiday spirit so I am happy you wore it with boots and a blazer.

  2. The more I stalk - er, READ! - your blog, the more I realize we are the same person. Everything you mentioned above is me, right down to Voltron. Which did you prefer - the lions or the planes version?

Anyhoo, I too am behind with Christmas. I'm usually done by now but I can't seem to rustle up enough energy to do any more than think about shopping. If you can stand violence, try Sons of Anarchy for your Charlie Hunnam fix. Where does one find live mussels? A selfie with the phone is so much easier with a clicker (I'm gonna do an HGB on mine so stay tuned). Went to Target to return some leggings but came out with a sweater the exact same price as my return. Gah! I was gonna nap, I was that tired, but I did my photos for the week instead, killing my brand new Urban Decay lipstick in my haste to finish all five outfits. Double gah! And no, I've not even heard of that mug until you mentioned it.

    Happy Monday! ;p

    1. My older cousin was a big Voltron fan and he even had the toy that really assembled into the robot, so I became obsessed with it after he did. I am a fan of the lions - didn't realize they had a car version?
I personally prefer clean cut Charlie Hunnam with his "good" Pacific Rim hair vs his biker stylings, but that's the show that made him big!

    2. BTW, I saw mussels at my local Asian mart (I like H-Mart, I think they are a growing Korean chain) - the fish and meats sections at those places are usually super-fresh and vast!

  3. I can relate to your feelings about Target. Between groceries, clothes, and home goods, it's a miracle I don't drop my whole paycheck there! Loving this plaid blazer and the ruffles on your top!

  4. The plaid shirt is adorable, especially the frill details!! My husband and I watched Thor 2 over the weekend, did a little bit of painting for our nursery (I only helped with the frogtaping part), and ran some small errands. Also did nothing for Christmas. It's too early!!!

  10. I love the blazer. Great colors in the plaid! I always have unproductive weekends, even when I try not too... I watched 3 completely football games yesterday...so obviously, I did not get much done! How did you mussels turn out? I have only made them once and I failed. I followed just a verbal recipe from my friend and poured the entire bottle of wine in the pot, instead of just 1/4 of it. Oops. They were pretty much like drunk mussels, eat two or three of them and you were buzzed. Target is a black hole where all my money is sucked...every.single.time.

    1. I used Ina Gartner's recipe which only used one glass of wine - the mussels turned out pretty well, though two pounds of mussels is way to much for two people!

  12. Great double checkered look. I am so not ready for the holidays and we went to visit Santa this weekend which in our family really kicks off the season. As for naps, I am a big fan of them and make sure I get one in on the weekends. And I don't have the Starbucks mug yet since I don't drink coffee. Though it would be a cute mug for my morning tea.

  14. Oh Target...we went this weekend to look at the crib we're getting & had nothing on a list to buy. $125 later we walked out....(And we didn't even buy the crib or anything else baby-related). WHYYY?!!!

Absolutely love the subtle pattern on your blazer. And there's a fancy collar/cuffs again! :-)

  15. Well my son's birthday was Saturday, but on Sunday, we had a movie day. I took two naps. TWO. And we watched about four movies. I don't know why I always feel guilty about that, but we still had fun! I love your plaid Lisa!

I was unproductive too. Got called to be an extra for a movie they're filming and got there, got my 70's polyester outfit, hair and make up done only to sit for hours... waiting to be called into the scene and it never happened :(

  23. Wow, am I the only one who was at first creeped out by the Starbucks mug? Whoever would come up with the idea of putting a black tutu on a mug? I am sorry but I can't imagine holding and drinking out of such a mug in my office. Imagine the reaction of my coworkers give me the giggles. And I am not a giggle-kind of person.

And we should all be so lucky to have a weekend such as yours. Staying up til 2 am is my kind of weekend.

  24. I love that blazer!

And Idris Elba is stoopid good looking. I still need to watch Pacific Rim, but if it has Elba, Hunnam *and* giant robots in it, my head may just explode with joy.

I started a Christmas list so I know what I'm getting some people but I definitely haven't bought anything yet!

    1. Pacific Rim is no Oscar winner, but it is a fun movie with some nice eye candy and plenty of big ole robots. Fantasy Lisa wants to be a Jaeger pilot. I could do without giant monsters destroying cities though.

  28. Target is definitely my weakness. I do a lot of my grocery shopping there, and I always end up in the clothing section every time I go. And houswares. And cosmetics. I have a problem.

  31. I love this Christmassy non-Christmas outfit! I know what you mean about retailers making you feel like you need to start buying presents NOW - I still say it's way too early. (And btw, the husband informs me that he's read that the first PS4's have got some kind of bug - so maybe it's just as well you can't get one yet?)

Um, and my weekend was actually very productive in a way because we went to Paris with a friend! But we did sleep in and I did spend the whole Eurostar ride back to London reading American Glamour magazine and drinking wine, that's a little bit unproductive, right? ;)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ooh, thanks for the tip on the PS4. I'm definitely not paying above retail for that thing so I guess I'll wait for the next (hopefully bug-free) shipment to roll in.

One lucky thing about living in Europe - everything's close enough you guys can just visit different countries over the weekend!

      Delete
    2. Exactly! That's one good thing about London too, it's the ultimate travel hub.
Victor is keeping an eagle eye on all the PS4 developments, for all that he claims he "doesn't want to get one... yet", so I will let you know if he finds out something else new. I hope they will bring out a bug free version in time for his birthday in late December - shhh! ;)

  32. Sounds like a rather productive weekend to me! You definitely made time to relax, and that's what weekends are for! :)
Although I am stressing a little about not having Christmas presents all sorted yet - the stores here get busy from now until Christmas so I was hoping to have all the shopping finished by December, but still have no idea what to get some people :(
