Party Girl

quilted paisley

I'm typically a pretty casual, easy-going gal when it comes to going out. I prefer jeans, tacos and beer on tap out on a back deck as opposed to cocktail dresses, canapés and "signature" tall-stemmed glass drinks in a dark room with gobo lights and low leather couches. I don't need to spend a lot of money or "pre-game" to have a good time.

Though that's not to say I don't enjoy that stuff now and then. Sometimes it's nice to be catered to over a multi-course meal carefully suggested by a waiter dressed nicer than you are from a menu with no prices. It's an experience - just don't look too closely at the final bill.

Variety is part of the fun of going out on dates with my honey. Once in a while we'll get all dressed up (see the outfit?) and go have dinner at a place you need reservations for, some other times we'll run into a diner for burgers and gyros after a random outing to a local auction or hiking trail. Or we'll make a trek out on a cold rainy day to Krispy Kreme for coffee and milk and some fresh-from-the-oven glazed heaven. Any or either way, it's a nice opportunity to try something different and be with the one you adore.

So in an attempt of keeping things new and interesting, I'd love to hear from you ladies. What do you and your honey like to do on date night? And do you have any recs for some fun, unusual date night ideas?

  2. That dress is beautiful on you! We love to mix it up on date nights, but they're mostly pretty casual. It makes the "dress-up" occasions that much more special though! :)

  3. Lisa, that dress is exquiste on you! It's gorgeous and the details are amazing! I can't offer any suggestions because I don't have a boyfriend/husband. And I don't think guys care so much for fondue restaurants (girl hangout). HaHaHa It's nice to dress up and go to a Sunday Champagne Brunch. I guess that's my suggestion. HaHaHa

  4. Seriously beautiful dress, and I can't believe it's only $50! Since my son was born my husband and I don't have a lot of date nights. When we do it's generally to go to dinner and a movie. For our anniversary we went to Flemmings a really nice steak house and to see Lincoln the movie. Date nights are a lot different than they were a decade ago....

  5. Patrick and I have a pretty routine date night of hanging out with a Redbox and Chinese, which I always love. But every now and again we're like "we gotta get OUT of here!" and that is always fun too! Lovely dress Lisa!

We're really into food, so our dates always revolve around a great place to eat.

  13. What an amazing dress. I am stunned that it is from ASOS! :)

I need more date nights. We don't have very many at all. And when we do, we just talk about the kids. Snooze!

So I will look to you for inspiration, if you don't mind!

  14. I am almost there, i.e. making an ASOS purchase. You and Catherine from Not Dressed as a Lamb are going to make me fold and buy something, like a raccoon sweater.

Right now our date nights consist of seeing all the Oscar flicks, either nominated for Best Movie, or with actor (and supporting) noms. But I like going to Trader Joe's with my sweetie, too - or just being in the same room with him.

  15. i love this dress. the detail seriously is gorgeous.

for date nights we like to try and find interesting places we haven't been to to eat.
we like going to ikea, plan out our future home.
sometimes we like to go see movies in the dollar theater.
we also like to pick something to do to our house and just eat some pizza at the house while working on a project.

  16. That dress is amazing! The geometry of the quilting combined with the paisley is gorgeous, and that belt and dress were made for each other. :)
Hmm, date nights have kind of devolved into sit-on-the-couch, snack-and-drink-wine nights ... but we really should get dressed up sometime and leave the house!

  19. Lisa, you have me thinking I need this dress in my life (that skirt looks a bit too short and the model is only 2 inches taller than me). You look lovely in this date night outfit.
My guy and I usually do Redbox and dinner but I told him we need to implement date night to get out and do fun activities. He doesn't know it yet but I'm going to make him do the whole trapeze thing. :)

I need some ideas for date night too, most of our dates are casual and depend on which restaurant has a table for the time we have a babysitter.

  31. I love, love, love that dress and belt and... the whole outfit. Absolutely awesome. Could anyone tell me how ASOS clothes fit? I've never tried 'em, but this dress is amazing.

My husband and I love going to Disneyland.... we live in LA, so it's maybe 45 minutes away, but it feels like another planet, haha. We have a pass, so sometimes we just go later in the day and walk around and get dinner, or go on a few smaller rides and enjoy the scenery. We also like cooking classes, roller derby games, the occasional mini-golf or bowling.... or finding a fun new bar!

  35. That little pouch is adorable! Love your nail polish too. Very pretty!

We love hiking together, going on road trips, and being outside. Our "date" dates usually consist of some kind of food - everything from our favorite brunch spot, to food cart lunches, to fancy nights out at pricey restaurants. I think that for us, trying new things is key. Of course we have our staples/favorites that we go back to time and time again, but it's always fun to be adventurous and try something new.

  38. 1. Your dress is beautiful. The colors and pattern is gorgeous.
    2. We like to walk places, it makes it more fun. Try taking a walk to some place you've never thought of walking to before. In Miami, there are not many places we can get to on foot, but in my area, we are lucky enough to be able to do it once in a while. It's really nice on date night, especially when the weather is a bit cool Downside - no heels (but you can pack 'em in your bag ;)

  39. Swit swoo you look lovely! We don't really have date nights now we have E. Some food & a film on the sofa before (early to) bed is about as wild as it gets. Sometimes we'll do a cheese, bacon & shallot fondue with dippy bits & funky salads & actually eat at the table! What we tend to do more is head out for a late wknd breakfast & take her with us just to mix the usual routine up. That's really fun, followed by a walk & the park. Not a date as such but quality time nonetheless :-)

Definitely nice to go out occasionally for a "fancy" meal - I think it's all part of the experience that you don't get at your usual or standard eateries!

  48. Ah! I missed this post! I'm loving your dress, so pretty! I love love love the print! Your purse is also cute, it's already a statement piece~ The whole outfit is just gorgeous! Well, my partner is very spontaneous. He will just bring me to a place that I've never been to or heard. It may be a restaurant or somewhere that he knows I'm into. Or buy an Ice cream together at 24/7 store in the middle of the night- that's how we date- lol! But most of the time we watch movie together, cook or cuddle up at home :)
