My nails - either doing them myself or getting them done. It's a bit of completely indulging myself time that I savor.
The
physical act of shopping. Granted I do most of my shopping online
nowadays so I can appropriately hem and haw endlessly over a purchase,
but when I go to stores, I actually prefer going without friends and not
being helped by sales associates unless I ask for it. Otherwise I am
easily coerced in buying things I may not really like - and honestly I
don't like to stand around waiting for other people to finish their
dawdling.
Cleaning the house. And cooking. Both because it calms my mind as I
have to concentrate on whatever the repetitive task is at hand. And
because no one else can do certain things right (i.e., my way or the
highway - so Type A, I know).
Exercising. Granted, I'd probably be more consistent with the workouts if I buddied up with some friends, but I feel like I can "booty shake" with more determination without an audience.
Watching Downton Abbey.
I just saw the entire series one this past weekend. Literally got up at
three a.m. on Sunday morning to watch the last episode. The show is
just so properly addictive - but to keep track of all the characters and
storylines, I need to pay attention!
What do you enjoy doing on your own?

Totally agree re: shopping. The only person I can shop with happily is my sister, everyone else either dawdles themselves or rushes me. I end up getting so fed up that I skip half the shops I want to browse and go home in a grump!
ReplyDeleteThere's usually a handful of stores I like shopping in - it's a waste of time to me to go through almost every store in a mall or something. However, if I'm with friends and my main goal is to gossip and be with my friends, then we'll meander.
Deletesuch a cute outfit!

Any opportunity I have to be alone I will take in a heartbeat. With a toddler, a husband, and a dog I can't even take a shower in peace. When given the opportunity, I loooovvveee to shop alone too. It's my timeline alone. <3.
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin the stripes and bright pants today too!

I rarely ever get alone time (2 small boys and a husband) so when I do it is precious! But I like shopping alone (especially Target) and certain period movies that I like to watch alone. (Pride and Prejudice is a fav rerun when sick) About the only person I like to shop with is my Husband. He is a good shopper and likes it.(obviously, this was a key factor in marrying him)
ReplyDeleteYou are rocking those red pants! Looks great.
You lucked out, girl, with the hubby then. 99.9% of men don't like the shopping - unless it's at Lowe's or something, hehe.
DeleteDownton is one of my favorite shows! Never thought I'd be hooked to it like that. :) The picture of the light coming through a blind at an angle on your striped sweater is so cool. Love your red pants. I still need to get a pair myself. ;)
ReplyDeleteI watched one episode on a whim since everyone talked about it and got sucked right in!
DeleteThat sweater looks so cozy! I'm totally with you on the tv shows...I'd rather watch shows I love alone so that I don't miss anything!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% on going ALONE when shopping...it just works better that way!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about shopping and exercising alone! I freaking hate going with someone else! I know my boyfriend just wants to hang together but seriously? I need my space!
ReplyDeleteMy sis is smart with her hubby when they go shopping - they may go to the mall together, but once they're there, she goes her way and he goes his!
DeleteCompletely agree with shopping on my own- my husband says he likes going with me but I enjoy the time and freedom on my own! Maybe also because he will usually suggest things that I won't necessarily like... :)
ReplyDeleteI totally love Downton Abbey and am loving seeing the change in era in the costumes! I kind of love Maggie Smith as the dowager, she is so amazing!

From corsets to flappers - the fashion on that series is dreamy!
DeleteI agree with you Lisa about shopping alone....I always feel rushed when I shop with other. If I'm with friends/family, I will put things on hold and go back to the store later to try everything on. My sister and I shop the same way, so she's the only person I can really shop with and be happy. I also like to run alone. I have a running partner, but we run at different speeds. We always start out together in a race/daily run, but I usually ending up running by myself. It's better for me anyways because I use that time to really think.
ReplyDeleteMoody Girl In Style
I have a gal pal who I adore, but she takes forever when shopping. And she won't bat an eye at standing at a super-long line for one non-significant item. I end up sitting in the tired husbands section of the store by then, hehe!
DeleteI LOVE going shopping on my own too! Either I know exactly what I'm in the store for so I want to just zoom in and out quickly or there's a million things I want to try on and I don't want to hold up the person who came with me. Shopping is my relaxing alone time!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of annoys me about going to stores shopping is that if I am looking for a certain item, more likely than not, I won't find it in-store, then I'm like, why did I come all the way here?!
DeleteThat is how I shop too! I think it's why I converted to mostly online shopping... I don't like to make people wait while I try on clothes or circle the same clothing rack multiple times, and I don't like salespeople talking to me unless I ask for help!
ReplyDeleteOverly helpful sales people can sometimes hurt as bad as ones who won't give you the time of day!
Deletelol...i like to do most things on my own! although i am with my son 99% of the time but we've got our routine down for everything. in fact, if i do get to go grocery store shopping without him on the rare occasion, i almost miss talking to him.

I love reading or just snuggling on the sofa with the cat alone on a lazy Sunday. Lol. That sweater looks so cozy!
ReplyDeleteBlissful silence!
DeleteLoving the layers today Lisa! I also prefer shopping by myself and I thought I was the only one that cleaned to relieve stress!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I like to shop alone and ESPECIALLY watch Downton alone!! Love this outfit btw.

How classic...white & black or navy stripes and red pants. Love!

Classy with a Kick
OMG! Are you secretly me? Social as I am, some things such as cleaning, organising, cooking, shopping I've just got to do alone. When I clean however, I usually catch up with my friends on the phone (except when I hoover). My children and I often bake together, but I prefer to cook daily meals alone. And this might sound terrible, but I only enjoy eating meals with those closest to me. For example, at parties, I feel like I can't taste the food. When I go shopping (for myself) I'm in this Zen-like state and I just have to be alone to enjoy it completely. When it comes to exercising, I love going for walks with friends but not working out to DVDs. I also love watching TV & movies with friends.
ReplyDeleteI'm bad about food at parties or large gatherings. I ALWAYS end up eating way more than I should!
Deletethis outfit is perfect. you paired it so perfectly. love it.
ReplyDeleteand things i like doing alone, walking to school, watching my tv shows so no one can laugh if i cry, and blogging, i don't want someone reading over my shoulder. haha.
K
I am She Who Shops Alone. Except I can shop with my friend Bobbi, because she is totally honest. We've known each other too long for anything else.
ReplyDeleteHaha, "She Who Shops Alone." I love that!
DeleteI love this clean preppy outfit - and C wonder clutch, how I love that store!!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with what you like doing alone :)!
Red Soles and Red Wine
Agreed: shopping and exercising are alone activities! I will shop with company, but I will usually have to go back later because I wasn't thorough enough! lol. I will run with my pup but that's it. And awards shows: I watch those all by my lonesome, by choice.
ReplyDeleteBut Downton Abbey: my guy and I love to watch it together! He gets a kick out of the Duchess and her snippy humour :)
Lucky girl - I've tried running with my pup, but she gets so easily distracted. One minute we're just jogging along, next second she's off in a completely different direction "just 'cause."
DeleteLove everything about this outfit! The stripes, chambray, red, and leopard print....love!
ReplyDeleteI like the stripes and the skinnies. That sweater is really cute, and it looks warm.
ReplyDeleteI love the stripes with the leopard print! I am the same way with shopping by the way. I love shopping with my mom, but once I'm done in a store I have the hardest time being patient until she's ready too!

I know - I am totally not one of those cute bouncy workout girls - I am sweating and huffing and sometimes stumbling!
DeleteTotally agreed! I love doing all those things by myself, too. I am generally a social butterfly but something I just prefer doing on my own :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya on the shopping thing! I'm a goal oriented shopped and just want to go in and get out with my new purchases...yes, it is almost always plural :)
ReplyDeleteBTW...I'm back with a new address for now!

I'm a total alone time girl. Especially when it comes to shopping. Those red jeans look so great on you; I'm happy you have joined the colored pants club. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThese are the things I love to do on my own too! So funny! I hate cleaning when other people are around - I think it's because I feel like if people are around, you shouldn't be cleaning! And I hate shopping & exercising with other people too. The only thing I don't do is watch Downton Abbey but I definitely have my guilty pleasure shows that I have to watch by myself.
ReplyDeletePS - I hope your bf gets better soon. The flu is the pits!!
That's true about friends and cleaning - unless they want to help too, hehe!
DeleteI love shopping alone too. It just is so much more relaxing not to have to rush or feel like I'm waiting all the time.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is perfection. I love leopard and red together!
I love this outfit on you! Or me.... ;)
ReplyDeleteLike you, I can only shop alone. I also like to be totally alone when I read. background noise makes me nuts!
Reading in silence is bliss!
DeleteI love to do things with myself too. Shopping alone is really therapeutic for me, I get to roam around and check things without worrying about my partner's presence behind me- lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by La Lamp Shade!
ReplyDeleteAnd your style is PERFECTION.
What a perfect combo!! Well done girl!!
ReplyDeleteoliviamoone.blogspot.com
Cute jeans! I'm addicted to Downton Abbey, too :)
ReplyDeleteSo embarassed - literally this whole time I thought it was "DownTOWN Abbey" - haha!
DeleteI agree - even though having an exercise buddy may keep me in line, I prefer to exercise on my own! I really push myself when I work out, so I don't like to be distracted! I love your outfit too, as always your shoes are fab :)
ReplyDeleteI've tried going jogging with my friends but it ends up being a gab fest and we're barely breaking a sweat (cause you can't talk if you're huffing and puffing, right) - on the flipside I've tried going with some serious running people before and I felt like I was holding everyone up!
Deleteyou look sooo adorable. love everything about your whole outfit! I like to shop alone and exercise alone and clean alone too!
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job with your laundry room - you're so creative!
DeleteThis whole post I was admiring your ring - I've been looking for one just like for months now! Glad I have a place to look for it now :)
ReplyDeleteand I'm selfish too. I need my computer time and my shower time and my blogging time. I sometimes worry about committing to children and so on because I'm selfish :(
Haha, I know what you mean about the kids thing, I am the same way. If I'm all settled into the couch for some quiet reading, last thing I want is to get bothered by something or someone - selfish, I know!
Deletei agree with all of what you said. actually, i like doing most things alone. i think working with patients has made me appreciate "me time" much more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with shopping, cleaning the house, doing my nails... but I prefer working out with someone!
ReplyDeleteI do love doing my nails alone and I do love shopping alone believe it or not :) Don't have to wait for anyone and can try on clothes without worrying about the other people hehe
ReplyDeletekatattack2000.wordpress.com
And no getting pressured by friends or SAs with "you look so good in that, you should totally get it" with whatever randomness you decide to try on!
DeleteYou did an amazing combo here Lisa.....the chambray underneath the striped sweater, the bright colored pants & THOSE SHOES would surely make anyone smile!!!

Such a perfect look! I love the chambray underneath the striped turtleneck! It looks amazing with the red jeans an leopard pumps! Gorgeous:)!

i like shopping by myself, too. then i don't have to feel bad if i'm taking too long! i love this outfit. i love the chambray under the turtleneck. i never would have thought of it myself!
ReplyDeleteLately I enjoy doing everything by myself, I just get fed up with people from time to time...
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is really great, dear!! I like the pop of collar.;)
Haha, I know what you mean!
Deleteyou look great in this classic outfit! all layered up in color, print, and texture!!! love!!!!
ReplyDeletewe also love getting nails done solo. actually going to the movies is fantastic solo, especially when you came make an "off" showtime! that's the ultimate indulgence when you're the only one in the theatre!!!!

I think it was the first Mission Impossible movie that I saw by myself many many years ago. I went during the day on a weekday and I was in the theatre completely by myself for the whole movie. What a weird feeling!
DeleteCute stripes!!
ReplyDeletegirlavantgarde.com
There are so many things I love about this outfit - stripes, chambray, red pants, leopard print...perfection! Also, I'm totally with you about shopping alone. I like to take my sweet time in the dressing room, and I feel guilty about keeping someone else waiting.
ReplyDeleteI agree! And honestly I hate waiting on others in the dressing room too, hehe.
DeleteI literally enjoy doing almost anything alone. I am very much the introvert. Shopping, cleaning, even eating lunch--all things I prefer to do without anyone helping/hindering/even being around. But cooking? I'm not that good at it, and so I would always rather do it with the hubby or my mom--that way, it will actually turn out edible :)
ReplyDeleteTaylor
I love this look!! The way you paired the chambray with stripes, red pants and those adorable leopard print shoes. I have red pants that I hardly wear and this definitely has lent me some inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWow, love this outfit, it's so classic! And a lot of those things you mentioned, I prefer to do alone too, especially shopping and exercising. I don't feel like I can do either properly if I'm with other people!

Ouuu great points! I much prefer online shopping and shopping in store alone! I haaaaate when every single associate asks you if they can help. And then you go to a store and actually need help and NO ONE is around. Ah well can't have everything :P
ReplyDeleteThanks for your suggestion! I really enjoyed "Breakfast at Tiffany's", and will try to check out the book you suggested. Might have to order it from Amazon, though...
ReplyDeleteI love how you layered this look - the shoes are AMAZING!

We are so similar, I am the same about needing to do some things alone especially shopping! I am like a woman on a mission when I am shopping and in my own world, I have no patience to wait for other people to dawdle and faff when I have some serious shopping to do! Also the working out alone thing is what I prefer too. I feel like I don't have to worry about chatting or getting distracted.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of those trousers and how you have put those shoes with them, very nice outfit. I am now following you :)
