I thought I was being so on-the-ball with things by staying in my work e-mail loop during the holidays so there wouldn't be a ton of catching up now that we're all back rolling again. Wrong. I've spent the last few days pretty much having to remind myself of which people I have to re-remind about things they owe me. This misses the whole "tag, you're it" concept of work e-mails.
Netflix, you're going to be the end of any sort of productive use of my free time. I've spent the last few days entrenched with old episodes of Lipstick Jungle and Cashmere Mafia (Remember those shows? They were both touted as the new Sex and the City, but neither seemed to wield the magic that Carry Bradshaw in her Manolos seemed to). And what have I learned? Well, Brooke Shields is really tall.
Starting on January 2 - because the 1st was a pancaked, fried chicken loss - I have been trying to eat healthier. This time for me it means eating only whole grains, less sugar and red meats and about as much whole unprocessed foods that I can find. Which means I have been gnawing on home-made extra lean turkey burgers and steamed kale/baked sweet potatoes. Sounds not terrible, right? Except of course when I'm not allowed to have it, I want pizza, Panera Bread broccoli and cheese soup (in a bread bowl, natch), lamb gyros, spaghetti with meatballs ...
The singer Tiffany was on What Not to Wear recently. Which got me into full-on elementary school nolstagia mode - I think we're alone now / Doesn't seem to be anyone around / I think we're alone now / The beating of our hearts is the only sound ...
What's random in your life lately?
Sweater: Zara striped t-neck (worn here - sim, cowl, rugby)
Top: LEC gingham poplin (worn here - sim, sim sim)
Skirt: J.Crew ikat dot (worn here - sim, bias, as dress, pricey dress)
Clutch: C.Wonder color block (worn here - sim blue, sim, pricey)
Earrings: J.Crew (sim, sim)
Ring: BR (sim, sim, in blue)
Shoes: J.Crew mona tassel (worn here - same as flats, steal as flats)
Happy new year! I really liked Lipstick Jungle, they showed both series over here and I think I watched them both twice, the second time around when I was on maternity leave and bored! Nothing random of note as yet this year... still haven't taken the Christmas tree down though :-$
ReplyDeleteI still have decorations up on the mantle. I need to take them down, but I think now my mantel would look too bare without the greenery or ornaments. Or maybe that's just my laziness trying to rationalize with me, hehe.
DeleteI really like your winter white! I've been meaning to experiment with winter white this year, maybe I'll get around to it.
ReplyDeleteI had my holiday indulgence and now I'm back to healthy eating too. I'm craving gelato something crazy though, even though it's freezing.
I actually kinda like Lipstick Jungle. It was a guilty pleasure. :)
Tiffany was on What Not To Wear? How did I miss this?
Yeah, Tiffany has a whole "Stevie Nicks" kind of hippy gypsy vibe thing going on now.
DeleteHappy new year, Lisa! This outfit is pattern mixing PERFECTION!
ReplyDeleteI loooved Lipstick Jungle and I was so sad when it was cancelled. But that was mostly because of shirtless Robert Buckley :)
And now I really need to see this WNTW with Tiffany!

RB is one of those ridiculously good looking people - like, TOO good looking, if you know what I mean? ;o)
DeleteThe outfit is soooo pretty! So glad I found your blog :) I loved Lipstick Jungle, I was so sad when it was cancelled :(

I just saw the last episode last night and I was like, wait - that's it? What about poor Griffin?
DeleteI was a lot younger when Lipstick Jungle came on but even then I figured out that in no way they were the new Sex and the City. That being said, it still looks good!
ReplyDeleteI randomly decided to see if I could moonwalk across an icy parking lot, that did NOT end well, as you can imagine!
Winter white is my FAV! I love all of the winter white you have but still have color and don't get lost!
Girl, I can't moonwalk on flat dry ground, so you got me on that, hehe.
DeleteOh yes, I'm resolving to be more active this year but it's so hard in the winter. Eating healthy is definitely top of my list. I also have a similar problem with the television lately, only the culprit is classic Dallas episodes (1978-1991). You need to watch this if you get a chance. It's so good it will render you non-productive for days!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to be big into classic Dallas. She adored Ellie and Pam.
DeleteOh, Happy New Year! Better late than never. I love how you play with patterns here.
ReplyDeleteI'm learning how to sew this year. Gotta put the sewing machine I got for Christmas to good use!
I got a sewing machine in high school and all I managed to do was do some terrible hemwork on some pants and sew together some awful stetchy skirts.
DeleteHappy New Year Lisa! I totally watched every episode of Lipstick Jungle back in the day and think its tragic it ended so soon...I loved it! :). Very cute look! Love the pops of red and tan!

I adored Victory and Joe, but I wish Andrew McCarthy was younger or they picked someone else. He just seemed a bit too old and slight for her, I kind of grimaced every time they embraced!
DeleteUm thanks - now I have Tiffany stuck in my head..
ReplyDelete(Happy new year!! I have no set resolutions - I have a wedding to get ready for this year so the eating better, working out more bit is well taken care of)
Ush
Excited for your wedding, girl!
DeleteI read your blog everyday so when you commented on mine I felt like I had been visited by a celeb! Thanks!

Haha, oh don't make me blush! Hardly a celeb! Thanks tough!
DeleteI will now be singing Tiffany all day but I don't consider that a bad thing :-) I love the mix of patterns together!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don't know any other song Tiffany had ever sang.
DeleteHappy New Year, Lisa! I love all the navy and white going on in your outfit.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your mix of patterns! Great job with this!

Happy new year! I hear you on the email front... Ugh! Great outfit Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love all of the pattern mixing! That's one of my favorite things to do (:
ReplyDeletexoxo Jayne from http://somuchfashionsolittlespace.blogspot.com
Omg, can I just suggest that you DO NOT get into Cashmere Mafia because the show never gets picked up for a full season and you're left hanging in the middle?!?!? I spent many sleepless nights wondering WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?!?!
ReplyDeleteToo late - I personally like the cast better for Cashmere Mafia (love Lucy Liu and that redheaded chick), but the storyline was way better in Lipstick Jungle. And totally, the series just STOPPED - like Lucy's character gets a dog and that's it?!
DeletePerfect outfit! Love those shoes!!! I'm also trying to eat much better, for fitness AND for health reasons. However, I'll be eating something for lunch today that you specifically mentioned above, but I won't tell you what. That would be mean :)
ReplyDeleteLooking good!!!
Taylor
I already had three Krispy Kreme doughnuts over the weekend. Yeah ...
DeleteI absolutely LOVE your pattern mixing. It is genius. I think I may have to copy you.
ReplyDeleteOh Netflix. I hear ya. I got lost in Gossip Girls lately and I. Just. Can't. Stop! I love your black and white graphics today Lisa!
ReplyDeleteAt least watching movies you know you'll be done in two hours. Getting caught up into TV shows - only 98 more episodes to go!
DeleteLove this outfit - perfect pattern mixing. And that sweater looks super cozy warm.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Tiffany was on What Not to Wear. I'm gonna have to catch that episode. I saw the one with Blossom last night.
I had the same issue at work - it took me at least 2 days to remember which client went with what, etc. Must mean we had a good break :-) Happy Friday!
I didn't know Blossom was on - but shoot, I personally thought she needed fashion intervention when she was on Blossom!
DeleteStripes, checks & dots all worn together at once! Looks amazing. You pulled it off really well!

The shoes, ring and clutch are spot on! Don't care what others say but I love matchy-matchy!

Haha - I have all the Lipstick Jungle seasons - the 2nd season was good, the last one was good, sad it was cancelled. I'm on a diet too, but it's spaghetti and meatballs night anyway. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's OK, my diet apparently included a bunch of Krispy Kreme doughnuts over the weekend.
DeleteI can not get over the wonderful a match you have found with the Toni tassel loafer and the CW clutch. Perfect. And so cute with the dots! (HULU is my downfall.)
ReplyDeleteYou are rocking the pattern mixing here!! It looks so good!

Happy new year! I'm trying to cut back on the decadent eating just a touch- not enough to encourage recidivism, I hope... Your black and whites are delightful- the array of prints in the last photo are charming!
ReplyDeleteLoving the stripes/dots/gingham combo, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI recently started watching Nashville. I may have rather obsessively watched all of the episodes of it yesterday. And now I'm hooked on the soundtrack, and the angelic-ness that is Clare Bowen's voice. Guess my southern roots are showing through big time on this one!
Happy New Year!
xoxo
ha, i've never even heard of those shows. but i don't watch tv, so that might be part of it. i started weight watchers in december and its helping me make better choices. i totally just wasted all of my points yesterday on my sister's going away dinner. lots of bread, some maple grilled salmon and flourless choc cake.
ReplyDeleteOh bread, I miss it the most.
Deletethere's really nothing random in particular in my life right now, haha. ;)
ReplyDeletep.s. i love the mix of patterns!
<3, Mimi
i got netflix during the holidays and have been on marathons of 'the nanny' and 'charmed'. apparently i needed to revisit the 90s. LOL. i loved 'lipstick jungle'. it was such a fun show. happy new year Lisa! xox P
ReplyDeleteI loved Charmed. Partly just to see what craziness Alyssa Milano thought up to wear that episode.
Deletesuch a classy look! love the flats :)

I love how well the clutch and the flats match, I can't believe they are not from the same brand!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year :) Love the clutch and the flats :) Pretty colors!
ReplyDeletekatattack2000.wordpress.com
I'm totally loving the dots and stripe mix in this outfit. That sweater looks incredibly cozy!
ReplyDeleteI watched both Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle. I never believe it when a show or critic claims a show is the new SatC but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the shows that come out with fun fashion and lots of friend time.
Good luck with the healthy eating, I'm in the same boat. I'm desperately trying to get this sweet tooth under control and to learn better portion control.
Honestly when I see the first season of SATC on reruns, I personally can't believe that show got picked up for more seasons. Thank goodness, though, because the later seasons were way better, IMO.
DeleteI love, love, love the mix of prints and that it's the same color and that it's NAVY! It would be hard to top Sex and the City lol! I don't have Netflix but I can't stop downloading shows to my ipad.....dangerous, very dangerous! Enjoy the weekend!!
ReplyDeleteLove how you didn't shy away from mixing prints - and it looks fantastic! The orange and tan complements everything so nicely.

So many prints and I love it! I think it's great that they're all in the same color, then your shoes give a pop of a different color. Great look!

What an amazingly cute outfit! I love the patterns, especially the peek of gingham I see! I'm really trying to eat healthier this year, too. I think I'm going to have to start cooking again.
ReplyDeleteWe had pancakes on January 1. I made the batter with all organic ingredients including whole grain flours. It was quite yummy.
ReplyDeleteYou look fantabulous in this outfit. Happy new year!
Happy New Year! I love this outfit! It's adorable and cute and sweet and so modern all at the same time. :)

I honestly haven't seen Lipstick Jungle even if I've heard a lot of it when it was still airing. I might watch it this year. Love the stripes and polka dots.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
The fashions are pretty nice on that show, though a bit cleavage happy, hehe.
DeleteHappy New Year Lisa....I love the pattern mixing in your outfit today! It's fabulous. I loved Tiffany back in the day...I think I still even have a copy of her first album at my mom's house. I haven't thought about her songs in forever. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
ReplyDeleteMoody Girl In Style
I haven't seen either of those shows, but I've been catching up on some smutty new show, called Nashville & I'm obsessed! And now I'm going to be singing Tiffany all day tomorrow! Love that song!! I hope you have an amazing 2013! And by the way, I'd really love to raid your closet, you have some of the best pieces ever!! Like for instance, this whole ensemble!!!!
