Make Just One Someone Happy

layers

I'm blaming it on the retailers, but I already have tiny little elves and pilgrims running around in my head as a constant reminder it's that time of the year. The anxiety starts creeping and pretty soon I’m overloading my brain with all the little lists of things I must do now now NOW, like make holiday plans, buy gifts, dishes to cook, who gets what, where do I go, what do I send, what do I pack, am I forgetting something, what's new, what's on sale, where did I put [insert anything] ...

So I consider it serendipitous when in my web surfing over the weekend, I stumble upon a phrase: Make Someone Happy.

There’s a wide birth of definition for that phrase, but that’s perfectly fine. I don’t think it requires grand gestures or extended use of time or resources. I feel like all it takes is a little bit of thinking outside of ourselves to make that happen.

Things other people have done to make me happy? It doesn’t take much to get me grinning, and I really appreciate the little things. Saving me the last Krispy Kreme donut. Telling me that I’ve done a good job in a recent work project. Taking me out to a fancy dinner – just because. Hugs from mom for encouragement. Getting tucked in at night. Seeing some long lost gal pals and going out for sangria and gabs.

In light of the upcoming holiday season (can you tell I can't get it out of my head already), it's getting to be time to not only indulge ourselves but to treat others as well. What do you do - past, present, future - to make someone happy?  What has someone else done that makes you happy?

  1. Does yourself count as the someone? :)

No, seriously, I think those are good words to live by, not just for the holiday season. It's just trying to be a nice person, a kind person, and to always think of others.

    Love those boots!!

  4. Love the boots and the blazer! My boys make my day, every day. So far this morning, I was told I was the kissiest mommy ever. :) I made a dear friend some thai lettuce wraps for dinner recently. Their newborn is in the nicu and they needed some good food. I hope it made them happier, even for a few minutes!
off topic, but did you color your hair? It looks fab!

Just this past Saturday my husband took me to my favorite Mexican place for dinner and cocktails - amazing. For me, I love to send mail to my friends, unexpectedly, to make them smile! And letters - I write lots of letters.

thursday at work someone messed up my starbucks order and gave me one for free. on the elevator back up a woman held the doors for me so i offered her the other drink. she was on her way for a job interview so hopefully she got some good mojo going with a peppermint mocha.

  10. it's always the little things that i appreciate (not so much monetary). words of encouragement, care and being there make me happy. i like to encourage others and buy little things for other people. i like putting a smile on people's faces. some appreciate it and others in the past have taken advantage of my kindness. so i'm a lot more cautious.

lisa, this is a fabulous outfit girl. love the colors and that bag is simply awesome. i agree! this can definitely be a very hectic time of year. hang in there.

  28. loving the j. crew you have going on! as for making people happy, hmmmm, lets see. i'm on interviews right now so i always try to make my fellow applicants less nervous by talking about silly things (or hearing them talk about whatever they want!). and if its a guy i'll compliment the shoes or something. giving girls compliments is so much easier. its much better than sitting in a quiet room and waiting for the next victim!

  33. You look beautiful as always; those boots and turquoise accents together are perfect.

If I come home and find that anyone else in the fam did some small domestic chore I normally do, I'm happy! (I get less demanding with age :) The SO is way more social than me, so if I accompany him on a visit to his friends I don't know as well, he's happy. It's the little things.
