Here's a decidedly more casual take on the empress dress this time (as opposed to when worn last for work), letting the dress do most of the talking. The colors and print say a lot. While it's just easy to get dressed in these stand-out pieces, sometimes it's hard to think of different ways to wear them. I guess pairing this piece with a simple black cardigan is the next and last option?
Do you have any recs for other ways I could wear this dress? And what are your stand-out pieces?

That lace cutout is so gorgeous! A cardi or blazer in any of the colors in the dress would work..but I know what you mean, something with this much print can be hard to style in different ways. Have a great weekend Lisa!
ReplyDeleteGreat dress. Love the sandals as well!
ReplyDeleteOMG that dress really can take you places Lisa....it's just so chic & versatile!

Beautiful dress! I'd wear it with a denim jacket or a perhaps a leather jacket to toughen it up a bit!
ReplyDeleteLove your earrings too!
For some reason, denim jacket never crossed my mind - thanks!
DeleteLove this whole outfit, the colors are so rich! and THE BELT!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! What a gorgeous dress! I also really love your choice of accessories. I must get that belt!
ReplyDeleteTHAT DRESS is amazing. The belt looks perfect with it too!

The print on that dress is just gorgeous! If you want to really dress it down, I'd pair it with a denim jacket.

Thanks for the rec!
DeleteThe dress looks so cute on you!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see your dress with a white denim jacket. You might want to try wearing it with a crew-neck sweater in the fall to cover that lace applique. It will change the one of the dress. It's a lovely dress, I spied it at Anthropologie last week.
ReplyDeleteI can't bear the thought of covering the crochet-work, but I agree, I think a crew neck over would change the whole look of it - thanks, Anne!
DeleteThis dress is so pretty :) I think black cardigan would work, but you could definitely also try pink, orange... maybe even white?
ReplyDeleteThat dress is awesome! I love the print...it is definitely a stand out! Love the way you made it a bit more casual with this look!

Such a lovely print! A structured black blazer would also look pretty sharp. Or layer a shirt over the dress, like a tied Oxford shirt, so the dress becomes a skirt. Or wear another skirt over it, so the top of the dress stand out? But I also think it's nice to just let it stand out as is. Slip it on and go -- that's why dresses can be so easy! :)
ReplyDeleteTo wear it as a skirt, great idea!
Deletewow that dress was made for you! gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe lace on that dress is just stunning!
ReplyDeleteI'd pair it with a nice blazer ;)
Let it shine. It's beautiful on it's own. Though for a cooler night you can always toss on a leather jacket. Or for a day look wear it with flat leather sandals, gold earrings, and loose wavy curls, and a denim vest?

I think I need a leather jacket in my life ...
DeleteThat dress looks fabulous on you! It may look good with a chambray top tied over it!

I think a lot of you ladies like the denim idea, I'll have to do that, thanks!
DeleteThis dress is so gorgeous! I love it with the belt you selected too. I agree that due to the strong pattern, letting the dress stand on its own is a great idea. Throwing on a little denim jacket as others have suggested might work too and certainly makes it even more casual, not to mention perfect for fall.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your suggestion, Katie!
DeleteI would wear a fitted short sweater over it or a long sweater belted, so it looks like a skirt. I'm also wondering if you could put a thin fitted top underneath it?? or wear a skirt over it so it looks like a top. But it's fab on its own of course!
ReplyDeleteThis is kind of a cooler-weather color combo, so the idea of wearing it as a skirt is a nice concept, thanks!
DeleteI agree with the "wear it as a skirt" comment - I'd choose a slouchy knit to wear on top. Then maybe add a pair of ankle strap sandals to balance out the casual look. You could also belt a trench over it for a transitional fall look. Fun dress!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rec!
DeleteI cannot help you with any recommendations. I am not too good at that. But this dress is really, really good. Suits you so well. I like your styling the belt, the shoes (oh gosh your shoes..).
ReplyDeleteI ordered the same belt last week. Can't wait for it to get here. The dress is gorgeous, btw. It looks great on you. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty dress! One way I stretch a dress is by knotting a chambray top over it making it look like a top and skirt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rec!
DeleteI like how Jessica Quirk wore it recently! Pretty casual with flat sandals. http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/post/58333937864/what-i-wore-fleur-de-lis
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link! Wow, Jessica's tall! ;o)
DeleteWow that dress is gorgeous! I'd dress it down with a denim jacket maybe?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rec!
DeleteWhat a great dress! I love both ways you styled it. It would be cute with a shirt over (a pull over sweater or a chambray shirt would both work well) and wear it as a skirt, or pair is with a denim jacket, or a leather jacket and boots!

I need a leather jacket for cooler weather!
DeleteLoved the dress the first time and this time as well. :) The belt is a really fun touch. I agree with what Nikki said about pairing it with a denim jacket as the weather gets cooler.

I can definitely relate to having trouble remixing the really bold pieces. This dress is a tough one! I do love it with the gold belt, it's a nice addition.

oooh! what a fun dress!

It is cute but tends to make you look really short.Don't understand why petites think wearing the shorter lengths elongates them.In reality it makes them look even shorter.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate you taking the time to comment. I'm only 5'2" and not teeny weeny, so wearing flats with anything can have a tendency to make me look more squat (but a girl's gotta be able to be comfy, right) - when I wore this dress the first time with heeled sandals, I think it helped me look longer and leaner, regardless of the length of the dress. I'm not sure if the length of the dress was longer it would have helped ...?
DeleteI LOVE this dress on you!! The belt and earrings really stand out and make the outfit all the more beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhen in doubt I always go to wearing a blazer for bold pieces but sometimes it doesn't work. I LOVE that belt with this!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, I think a clean black blazer would work well!
DeleteWhat a fantastic dress :) Not sure how to style it but it's soo pretty!
ReplyDeletekatattack2000.wordpress.com
Oh, this dress is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis dress is truly unique Lisa :)!I like it and you are wearing it in the most perfect way :)!

I have nought to say- love how you're letting the dress say it! It looks like a million bucks! I'm 'new' to lilka but keeping an eye on them. I have the recent orange rose-embroidered sweatshirt that was a constant companion on my summer vacation. Really pretty details.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I would actually take a skirt and wear it over the dress so it looks like a cute top. It's the prefect way to make your dress work more than one way :)

Thanks for the rec!
DeleteI think you should pick out a totally non-obvious colour from the dress, like orange or pink, and match that with an orange or pink cardigan or blazer! Or you could wear a white jacket with it, to tone down all the bright colours? Or wait, I've got it - wear it with a denim jacket and those brown ankle boots you have to make it really casual!
ReplyDeleteDenim jacket pairing is def the winner rec - I'm going to have t try this, thanks!
DeleteSuch a pretty dress, and it looks especially pretty on you.
ReplyDeleteAdding a cardi is an option. I'm trying to envision it unbelted with leggings, for a bohemian look.

Lisa, I can not imagine improving upon that outfit, the print is gorgeous, and it is styled perfectly. Maybe a black leather jacket, and mini fishnets + combat boots for fall, or a cardi as you say, with lovely leather boots. Black twill trench would be pretty too..
