The Good, the Bad, the Scalloped

scalloped

"Life is like a box of chocolates," right? So with the bad often comes the good and vice versa, regardless of how big or small that thing is in your life. Here are some of my variables:

The good: Since starting my blog, I take a lot more pics in general now and make an effort to capture the moments in my life.
The bad: Sometimes I find myself too busy trying to frame up a shot rather than just enjoying the moment.

The good: Since getting a treadmill, I have only missed three days of running, which means I've been doing my best to consistently exercise each day.
The bad: I can't help but to admit that I would have liked to have lost a bit or felt trimmer, but so far the only sign of a difference is that my boots fit tighter across the calves. Or just my right calf. My left calf apparently remains unimpressed with this whole "exercise business."

The good: Finally upgrading from my Blackberry to an iPhone. Welcome to 2007.
The bad: Probably not knowing what to do with about 80% of its functionality. But seriously, Siri, when I ask you to take me to iTunes, I am not sure why you tell me to go to the nearest Apple store. And are you really recording everything I ask?

scalloped  scalloped

The good: Style blogging makes me want to make more of an effort to look nice on a day-to-day basis, which ends up with me feeling generally better about myself.
The bad: I feel like I constantly need to think of ways to "one up" myself in terms of my outfits.

The good: Watching The Carrie Diaries.
The bad: Also watching My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding. (Didn't TLC used to stand for The Learning Channel? Between these guys and Honey Boo Boo, I'm not sure what they are trying to teach me.)

The good: My hair stylist is now making house calls, so it saves me a bunch of time and effort.
The bad: This means I need to clean the house before she shows.

The good: Self-tanner.
The bad: My feet and ankles are just a touch unevenly orange ... and by "a touch" I mean whoops.

What are some of the goods and bads of your life lately?

  1. What an awesome idea layering this dress! I feel your pain on the treadmill end...I sometimes feel like exercising makes no difference in my weight..dieting works so much better for me..but I hate it!

    1. I honestly hate to sweat, but I'd rather workout than eat less, except dieting is more effective. Darn it!

  3. Oh my god, I just posted about my disaster with self tanner. Do you use it all over or just on your legs? I am SOOOO afraid of using it on my arms, at least with legs you can kind of hide the mistakes.

    1. I only am doing my legs for now. I honestly haven't seen much of a difference on my legs at all - but the tops of my feet, especially my right foot, are pretty "tan colored."

  4. Love your dress and top Lisa! Very nice mix indeed doll. The scalloped hem on the dress is beautiful. I have one that's similar to yours: blogging. The Good - Blogging has made me reach out and visit new places The Bad - I often don't fully enjoy, because Im trying to get THE SHOT. Have a Great Week

  6. I love the scalloped hem! And the link bag and flats! I feel the same way about taking more photos to document the little inspirations and finds I come across, but sometimes being too busy to frame a shot! And yay for treadmill - that's great that you've been sticking to it! And the iPhone will take practice but once you have a good handle on it nothing else will compare!

The bad - there isn't any after that.

The Bad: Those few little "touches" that I need hubby to do but am afraid to ask for fear of sounding like a nag. Anyone want to tell me how to swap out light switches????

    1. We've got pretty high ceilings in our house which is awesome - except when it comes to changing lightbulbs. I can't reach most of the lights to change them even with the step stool. And that also concludes my expertise in anything handy.

  14. I really like how the arms of the dress are scalloped well. Are you using the different settings on the treadmill? Incline, HIIT? Sometimes you have to mix it up to see a difference. Take some time to check out the apps( Instagram, songza, zara😋, zinio) that's what I really like about the iPhone.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I haven't gotten too fancy with the treadmill yet, so no inclining or HIIT (what is that?). I've been playing with variable speeds - I'm usually between a brisk walk at 3mph or lung-burning (for me) running at 5mph.

  16. Ugh, don't get me started on self tanner. I live each spring and summer on a self tanning roller coaster--how I "tan" is literally so complicated that I can't even put it here. I will have to do a whole post on it.

  19. You are so cute! I love this post.

    1. I think I would actually consider making a little bitty pact with the devil in exchange for larger calves - isn't it funny that one person's "bad" could be another person's "good"?
    2. Your stylist makes house calls now? My mind is suddenly blown by a vision of that utopian alternate universe.
    3. I think every single one of us with a "style blog" knows exactly what you mean about feeling the pressure to one-up ourselves.
    4. Wait, there's a show called My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding? That kind of makes me happy we don't have a TV. (I've heard of Honey Boo Boo but have never had the pleasure/punishment of watching her.)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Utopian alternate universe also involves standing with your head in your kitchen sink while soap and chemicals run down your face as stylist washes your hair after highlighting! ;o)

As for Honey Boo Boo, she's fun for about one episode. Then you'd be like "these people are for real?!" Yes they are.

And I too, just got an iphone. But not even a 5, not even a 4s. I went with the 4 because it cost $1 and I knew I didn't need Siri. When my bf got the 4s we tried asking her how to zoom the camera on the phone and she got us directions to the nearest camera store. Bah.

    1. Haha, yeah it is not worth getting a newer phone just for Siri, so ain't worth it IMO! I have the 5 and what kind of peeves me about it is that they have a new plug for it, so I can't borrow my friends' old 4 or 4S accessories!

    1. Hi there - I got my usual size in J.Crew and I think it fit me fine. I'm not very curvy and that worked well for the shape of the shift dress - it is only shaped in the back so it doesn't fit tight, nor does it fit straight up and down like most other shifts. The material is thick without seeming heavy and it is unlined. I am wearing a reg size though and I'm only 5'2" so this dress is short - may be too short for most reg height ladies. Hope this helps!
