I am a fan of camouflage as there's something really pleasing to me about the mix of washed out greens. But it's not something I wear often as camo is a pattern that is used for utility, and myself being neither from the military nor a hunter, I don't want to seem like a poser or flippant in it.
So while I do have a camo jacket I sometimes wear, I usually wear it on outings where it will be apparent I am donning the pattern as a style statement - i.e., going to the mall versus going to a Memorial Day celebration.
But when I saw this tee, I knew I had to have it - it's got camo and stripes. And the mixed print to me made this a solely-for-style piece that would be a fun weekend addition. Now as for those camo skinny jeans that I would love to try? Not sure if I'm ready for that yet ...
Sometimes I tend to over-think things and have a weird way of justifying why certain things do (or don't) work for me, but it's not really noticeable, right?
Top: Gap mix print tee (sim as dress, sim-ish or layer this over this)
Jeans: Old Navy sweetheart skinny (on super-sale, worn here - sim, sim)
Belt: J.Crew factory (worn here - sim, deal)
Necklace: via Etsy (worn here - sim, sim, sim)
Bracelet: F21 modernist layered (sim, sim)
Shoes: BC Footwear prepare for landing (worn here - sim flats, taller)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAC in trompe l'oeil (worn here - same in leather, sim)
You just explained why I unconsciously shy away from camo. I am the least likely to join the military or hunt an animal so I feel like a total poser! I always like it on others, though, so maybe I should give it a shot (pun not intended).
ReplyDeleteIf I ever went hunting, I'd be the one screaming "run, Bambi, run!" as soon as I saw a deer. Yeppers.
DeleteYou are one of those people who can pull off anything, camo & stripes mixed together, included. I am sort of afraid of Camo too. I kind of want a pair of Camo Skinny Pants though.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday Lisa. Ada. =)
BFF has the same biases about camo as you, it seems. I dressed my son in camo a lot when he was little and I'd usually give BFF his hand-me-downs; she'd always politely refuse the camo cargo shorts. I, on the other hand, hold no preconceived notions regarding the pattern. Maybe because I didn't grow up in America? I just think of it similarly to how I think of paisley or plaid. Which is why I squee with delight regarding your outfit - you'd talked up this tee once before and I actually purchased the version in blue because of it. It is now my go-to "house" shirt - the one I pull on after I've divested myself of my "work" outfit when I get home. Viva la camouflage!
ReplyDeleteI think kids in camo gear are really cute - they've got the tough/cute kid thing going on!
DeleteGrowing up in a small, hunting town, I was never really interested in camo. ( though to be far, they mostly used hunter orange camo, as it was safer) I did see a pair of camo shorts that I actually liked...so who knoww, maybe I will jump on this bandwagon. I do love the use of the fancy necklace with the camo. Very fun!
ReplyDeleteI get and kind of don't get the point of camo for hunting. Because for me, I wouldn't necessarily want to blend in so much for fear of getting shot at by another hunter - I'd want to be in blazing orange like one of those traffic cones! "See me, people, don't shoot me!" ;o)
DeleteI think only certain types of hunting use actual green camo. Most, if not all, deer hunters use the bright orange camo. Deer are color blind and can not see it, humans can and wont shoot you :) I was never allowed outside to play during hunting season unless I was plastered in super bright, don't shoot this moving thing, colors:) I don't think hunters orange camo will EVER be a fashion statement!
DeleteI've seen this tee on Gap's website and have been very tempted to buy it. I love the mixed prints. And your shoes, belt, and necklace are the perfect accessories for this look!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit so much on you! And I'm so sad that by the time I decided to order the shirt from the States, it had sold out in every size. SOB!
ReplyDeleteTotally get your reluctance about camo, I used to feel exactly the same way because I have a crazy cousin in the Norwegian army and his military brainwashing gets on my nerves. But I think you'd totally rock camo pants! :)
But you could get cool military hand-me-downs? ;o)
DeleteSuch a fun shirt!

I can't wear camo. It makes me think that people will think I am a country bumpkin because I grew up in Kansas. You look darling in it!
ReplyDeleteHehe, my friends from TN think I look funny in camo because it totally doesn't fit me!
DeleteI used to feel the same way about camp and would not wear it. It's grown on me, I 've got the same (so comfy), a pair of flats, and jeans. I don't wear the jeans as much as I thought I would.

I want a pair of camo jeans but I don't think I am edgy enough to pull it off for style's sake!
DeleteI really like this combo, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt is kinda funny how camo became so fashionable when it used to be reserved for hunting! I've been thinking about getting a pair of camo skinny jeans, as long as I can style them to look more girly :)

I feel weird about wearing camo when I'm with my friends in TN because some of them hunt and camo has a purpose. Seeing me wearing camo makes them think of "Green Acres!"
DeleteI saw your pic on instagram and immediately had to have this top! Thanks for introducing it to me. I wasn't a huge fan of camo either, but this top is perfect with the mix of prints. Love!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
DeleteAnd I love the shoes! I think the heels and necklace really dress up the look.

You look great and I love how easily you mix 3 prints in this outfit. I bought an animal print skirt recently (partly inspired by how you always rock animal prints) and this post might be starting to slowly change my feelings towards camo.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'd love to see how you rock the animal print skirt!
DeleteLove this top! I love instant-pattern-mixing combo pieces like this.
ReplyDeleteDo it, go for the skinny camo jeans! (I'm totally encouraging you to because I'd never do it myself.) I like the big necklace with it, I always think of camo as not very feminine, but the sparkles feminize it.
ReplyDeleteI'm patiently waiting for that perfect pair of camo skinnies that I'll be brave enough to wear!
DeleteIt is quite an interesting mix.
ReplyDeleteThe leopard belt and necklace really take it up 10 notches.

The mixed prints are so cute and perfect with that necklace
ReplyDeleteawesome shirt!

I've never really been a camo girl, but if I were to do it, it would definitely be with a super blingy necklace.

That shirt is awesome! I feel the same way about military green. I love it and always seem to pick up a military jacket when they come back style. But, I don't ever want to appear flippant when wearing them. They remind me of my dad's jacket from the '70's.

I really really liked that top when I saw it posted on Instagram! So much so i ordered one! Thanks Lisa! Btw, luv this look.
ReplyDeleteFantastic - can't wait to see how you wear yours!
DeleteSuper fun tee and I love it with the statement necklace!

Jeans and a Teacup
Very nice combination of camouflage top and sparkling necklace!
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought camp would work so well like this… nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI need this tee! I thought you were layering at first! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I wondered if you were layering or if this was one piece. It's totally made for you! Print mixing and a cool, unexpected juxtaposition all in one!

I would have never thought on my own to pair stripes and camo together, so I must thank the Gap for figuring it out for me, hehe.
DeleteI really like this! Totally thought it was another great layering look by you. I also like the camo pants on other people but I'm not sure they're for me. I am also a huge fan of ON's sweetheart jeans..especially now with my new curves :-)
ReplyDeleteFunny thing for me is that I would not define myself as "curvy" per so - I am pretty straight up and down with not much of a waist. Though this sweetheart fit works for me!
Deleteit looks great on! very nice combination. love your shoes lisa.

Lisa, I see Camo a a good olive abstract design, and not a statement of anything political . I love this styled with your stripes and denim and gorgeous shoes. As always ! I think you did this flawlessly!

That's how I visually see camo - as another lovely pattern to wear. But I totally overthink things sometimes because I help but think of whether or not anyone else is thinking differently about it.
Deleteooh, camo and stripes! that's a great combo! i love how you dressed it up!
