Shiny, Sparkly
I held off on buying this necklace as long as I could because it seemed like it was pretty much everywhere - at least on blogdom and IG-ville - but when I found one for a smoking deal on Etsy recently, I just couldn't resist it. If you're one of the few gals who have not yet seen this piece on a blogger, it is a replica of the flower lattice necklace that J.Crew came out with a few years ago (and then came out with a similar version a few months back at their factory stores that flew out of the stores).
While I did admire the original version of this necklace when it originally came out, the retail price (I think it was $228) pretty much made my heart stop and I dismissed it pretty immediately. Plus it was really sparkly - like almost over-the-top sparkly - so I didn't think it'd be something I'd wear anyways.
Well fast-forward to the last few months when online retailers and Etsy/Ebay sellers starting rolling out replicas of this beautiful piece at much wallet-friendlier price points. I started seeing a lot of people sporting the necklace and it looked really nice. Just over-the-top enough. So I succumbed. And be prepared to see this piece a lot now.
Do you have a sim version of this necklace? What's your favorite items to pair with it? Or if you don't, how would you wear this necklace?
Sweater: J.Crew marled (worn here - sim lighter, shorter, floral, colorblocked)
Top: J.Crew tissue (worn here - factory version)
Skirt: F21 (worn here - sim, knee-length, as dress)
Tights: Anne Klein
Necklace: via Etsy (sim, sim)
Ring: F21 (sim, bigger)
Boots: Type Z (worn here - sim, sim, lower heel)
Bag: Dooney & Bourke (worn here - sim, sim, sim)

That sparkler is gorgeous on you and it suits the more tailored look of the rest of the outfit...softens it all up a bit. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing it and loving it, but since I already had a Banana Republic floral statement necklace and a Boden necklace that was similar, I *knew* I didn't need a third. LOL.
Yeah I think I have way more clear crystal necklaces than I need now. But they are so sparkly ...
DeleteYep, that necklace is a stunner! I adored it for a while too, and then found a way to make a similar one myself: http://peacockfairy.blogspot.com/2013/11/plaid-rhinestones.html
ReplyDeleteI do find it hard to wear sometimes, but I just love over the top rhinestones! Can't wait to see all the ways you style yours!
VERY COOL DIY! I adore your necklace!
DeleteWhoa, that is one pretty necklace! It reminds me more of snowflakes than of flowers. So maybe it would look nice with fluffy white fake fur? I like how you styled it with that chunky sweater, it really makes the necklace look even more striking. I'd wear it with a really simple dress, maybe a blue shirtdress...? And yeah, I guess I am one of the few people who hasn't seen this beauty before! ;)
ReplyDeleteOoh, fluffy white fake fur. Except I don't think I'm one who could ever pull off fake fur - instead of trendy I think I'd look like I'm in costume, hehe.
DeleteSo many people wear this piece but the one I like the most is from sunny with a side of blog. She pair it over a polka dot dress and it was so elegant. I bought one from amazon at a good price.
ReplyDeleteI gotta look that up, thanks!
DeleteI knew this necklace was a J.Crew piece when I started seeing it around the blogoverse and, knowing that, chose not to covet it. But when a random search on eBay (search term: floral necklace) pulled up loads of fun and inexpensive knockoffs, I knew I had to acquire one. Or three. Eheh.
ReplyDeleteI usually wear mine to bling up chambray or, conversely, to ramp up a patterned but collarless top. I loe dressing to excess; I must have lived in the court of Louis XIV in a previous life. ;p

Have you watched that movie "Marie Antoniette" by Sofia Coppola? Sure it's only based on history with a lot of creative license, but it is sure fun to see the excess.
DeleteI have a somewhat similar necklace and I wear it a lot with my basics honestly. I was annoyed with how popular the necklace was for a while honestly so I kind of hid it and grabbed it when the hype of it died down a little. I think that the necklace would look awesome layered with fair aisle and a puffer also!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I should try it with a printed colorful sweater, thanks.
Deletethe necklace is so gorgeous. I, too, was drooling over the J. Crew version but not in a million years that I would pay full price on that. Would have to check out your Etsy version for sure. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI adore JC jewelry but sometimes their prices give me heartburn. I think most (if not all) of my JC pieces were bought on sale or discount and I have a few inspired-by pieces that are much more wallet-friendly.
DeleteI have scored a very similar one on eBay. I love how you paired yours with a polished outfit, so suitable for work. Lately I have been pairing this sparkly necklace with some simple monotone sexy dresses for date nights and girls' night out. The necklace adds just the right touch of sparkle so I don't look too over the top!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind seeing you style that lovely thing over and over again Lisa......on a black backdrop it is so elegant & easy on the eyes!

I don't think I have seen this, similar perhaps but not that I'd notice. I don't read all that many blogs or follow many people on IG so maybe that is why!
ReplyDeleteIt seems most of the JCrew necklaces eventually have an eBay/Etsy version at a fraction of the cost. Who can resist all that glam sparkle?

I know - sooooo sparkly ...
DeleteI don't but I agree--it's the new bubble necklace (or bauble necklace or whatever that originally J. Crew one was). I usually get turned off when I see something EVERYWHERE. But I do think it is a very pretty necklace and I REALLY love the striped skirt, cardigan and black today Lisa. This is a very fetching look and finding something you've been lusting after forever for a cheaper price and through a small business is ALWAYS a plus!
ReplyDeleteI had one of those bubble necklaces and felt like I was going to run into hoards of people wearing it because it literally was all over blogdom, but I think I only ever saw one other person wearing one in real life!
DeleteI don't have a replica of this necklace… yet!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I can't wait to see how you style it. I always love getting handmade stuff from independent designers on Etsy. It feels better to support an artist rather than a big corporation.
ReplyDeletexo,cynthia
I adore a lot of my Etsy pieces - they're unique and handmade!
Deletei don't have this necklace, but now i really want it! i love how you styled it, too!
ReplyDeleteYeah, i hate it when that happens. I've fallen in love with a piece on bauble bar, but then when I see everyone with it, i can't justify buying it. Oh well, I guess I need to find more things that others find ugly, but look cute on me. :) Great way to style the green skirt...BTW.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know. But then I also have to remind myself that even know I may see it often on blogdom, I still rarely see it IRL. Like when the J.Crew bubble necklace was big. I had a less expensive version that I wore often but I always felt like I was going to stumble on loads of other chicks wearing the same piece but that never did happen.
DeleteCute sweater. Looks very warm but very comfortable! And I might just need to get that skirt...

I've been contemplating buying a necklace similar to this one as well...it's just so sparkly and pretty! I really love how you styled it here with the cozy sweater and green stripes.
ReplyDeleteI held off for a long time but it's so pretty!
Deleteit's a beautiful necklace lisa! what a statement piece. i don't have a necklace like that. love your skirt.

Such a beautiful statement necklace! I haven't seen it around before, but it looks great with the black top! :)
ReplyDeleteAway From Blue
That skirt is totally perfect on you. I cant believe how a striped skirt can actually look so lean!

So pretty. One of the fun things about reading fashion blogs is that it's inspired me to try introducing more jewelry into my daily outfits.
ReplyDeleteFrockandHound
Me too. I literally had no accessories before I started blogging.
DeleteYour necklace is gorgeous, and I love the striped skirt!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting this necklace too. I've been waiting for a c/o to arrive that might quench my thrust for the bling, otherwise I'm ordering this too :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, cool. I can't wait to see yours!
DeleteLove this!! Your outfit is so bold! esp that skirt!

lovely! I adore the necklace too and that price tag was definitely a deal breaker at the time. I love that more affordable versions are available now! =)

While I love JC jewelry and have a few real pieces, I also have a few less expensive doppelgangers. I'm a general klutz and don't want too much heartache when I break the clasp on a bracelet or something.
DeleteOh that necklace! I pined for the one with color and waited a long time for the sale. The peach one was the first to hit sale with an amazing price. Then the multi color one hit sale and I was so excited but they sent me the clear one instead. And the clear one was still at regular price! J.Crew was never able to locate the one I wanted so I thought the clear was better than nothing. I have yet to wear it but It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I love your outfit! I had to call my 8-year-old in to show her because she dresses similar, but the 2nd grade version with Payless flat boots, Justice cardigans and leggings with her skirts. And she has the kid version of that skirt from Forever 21 with blue stripes. She was very impressed to see the fashionable Lisa in her style. Too funny and cute! I may have to give this a try myself.
Have a great day,
Stacey
Haha, that's fantastic!
DeleteI've been won over by one too many statement necklaces, or maybe 10 too many? I feel like I've got them all (though I don't actually have a version of this one) and I will most likely get more, hahahah.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
I know, me too!
DeleteVery nice necklace! I don't have a similar one (yet!) but I think that the best way to wearing it is on a dark turtleneck sweater ... just like you did!
ReplyDeleteLisa, I love the ensemble . Once again you mixed a great mix of elements, striped, tweed , solid and sparkly...love the necklace.. A sweet find indeed,

I'm all about the statement necklaces. I'm at the point now where I'm using them as decorations in my home :)
ReplyDeleteI have so may crystal necklaces, and etsy is the perfect place for dupes, plus lots of them are hand made and you're helping a small business owner to boot. I love your sweater, it really elongates your body.

I don't know the necklace but I like it a lot. I am a fanatic necklace lover, so I can appreciate a piece like this. You have styled it very well (as you always do). I would always chose a darker background as a "stage" for this piece. Your black turtleneck is of course very good, but purple, dark blue, dark green etc would also work. Well that is my two cents. I don't have more fantasy.

And I really like your skirt. Forgot to say that.
