Camera Shy

camo whites

I was editing some of my blog outfit pics the other day and thought about the masses of outfit pics I've posted since I had started blogging a few years ago. It's been a lot of outfits. A lot of pics of myself. Out there. For all the world to see.

Which is a major change from my younger days where I made a point to avoid the camera as possible. The years between junior high and college? It was almost like I hadn't existed since there is so little photo evidence. When we had family pics, I was usually the last one to join the group. When friends whipped out cameras, I duck and dove out of the way.

I did this mostly because I had major self-confidence issues at the time, but now that I'm older, I can't help but to think of the lost moments that haven't been captured and that only reside in fading memory. So one good thing that has come out of my blogging? I take a lot of photos now. Of myself, of life. And if someone wants to take a photo of me? I may still be kind of awkward, but I won't duck.

  1. I love this jacket! It looks so great against the leopard print belt.

  2. I love how you mixed the camo and leopard prints together! Blogging is a great way to document your life through photos...and Instagram of course!

  3. I get a little uneasy sometimes about the number of photos I take of myself, I feel like it's way too narcissistic. But then that passes and I'm just like, go with it. Whatever. :)
I love that necklace, I have to get myself a knockoff of it from Etsy soon. :)

  4. Ha, I was exactly the same way. In all of my school photos I was always at the back trying to hide behind someone. Blogging has definitely helped me become more comfortable in front of the camera, though I still prefer taking photos for others :P

  5. I have always been a ham. And so are my kids. And so is my dad. We are a weird lot.

It is so very vain to have so many photos of oneself, but there is the whole capturing yourself for future generations that is alluring. I have many photos of my long gone ancestors and I am so glad to have them...from a historical perspective and a sentimental perspective.

In other words, take those photos and don't duck!

    1. If nothing else, it is great to have a record of how my style has changed over the years. Plus I just take more pics in general now, which is great for capturing the moments of life.

  6. I used to be blinks in all my pictures, blogging has definitely helped that. Love th outfit, this camo is perfection!

    1. Yeah, I used to look like a robot in my early pics. Hand on hip, stand still, no blinks, that's it.

  7. Love the subtle print mixing. I have been blogging for over a year now and I am still so uncomfortable in front of a camera. Have a great weekend!

  8. I need to take more photos of myself, especially with my kids. There is very little photographic evidence that I was their mother :) Part of the issue is I am always behind the camera and I never like documenting post baby body/hair/dark under eye circles...but that is real life. Maybe I won't duck so much...

I love the fan necklace with the camo. I am totally afraid of camo. I grew up in a big hunting area, so I can not think of camo for anything that is fashion and not hunting. I am afraid I will look to Duck Dynasty in it.:)

    1. I know what you mean about camo. I won't wear it if we're going to be somewhere more rural or where there may be actual military - I can't help but to feel like I'm a poser sometimes! But camo as print, I really love it!

  9. That is so great. I love how blogging helps us with things in unexpected ways. I've never had a problem having my picture taken and it always made me sad when people didn't like to see themselves on film. I'm glad you've lost your camera shyness!

Loving this outfit on ya girl. I gotta say one of the pieces I miss wearing most is a good white button up shirt. Now that I'm getting closer & closer to the finish line I'm getting excited to wear my old clothes again!

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  10. I've never been shy about taking pics but it was VERY awkward when I first started blogging. I used to always look down and now I smile at the camera like "he" is my friend. =) Love this outfit. I need to wear my camo jacket more often!

  11. Same here! And I think I still have camera shyness--as ironic as that is. My husband still wants to take my blog photos and I won't let him because I feel way too awkward. I was trying to find pictures of myself pregnant with my other kiddos the other day for comparison and there were only two pregnant photos of myself in all three of my pregnancies--one taken by me right before my daughter was born and one taken at about 4 months pregnant with my younger son at my older son's birthday party.

I love the camo jacket Lisa!

  13. Great post :) I agree that it's an odd thing being a fashion blogger and having so many pictures taken of yourself. I am still very camera shy, and I'm definitely not a model! But it's great to be able to document life doing something we love (wearing pretty clothes). :)

  18. That is the same with me. I HATED having my photo taken. Blogging has been my therapy to get over that.

This is just a great mix of eclectic pieces all coming together to look like they were meant to be. Great outfit.

  22. Such a cute jacket!
I've never exactly loved the camera either. I think blogging is actually a really good exercise for me--it forces me to post pictures of myself, despite my body image issues and camera shyness.

    1. Same for me! Strangely posting pics of myself in outfits on the Internet has def helped my body issues and overall shyness. It's kind of like at some point it finally hit my brain that I may not look like Cindy Crawford, but I look normal, and normal is OK.

  23. Love the fan fringe necklace with the camo jacket. I would have never thought of this combo, but it totally works. I can't agree more that blogging is a great way to force yourself to take more pictures of yourself and life in general. I also want to be able to look back at what I wore in my "younger days" when I am 80 and laugh at the styles I thought were cool... although maybe they'll be back by then!

Love the camo jacket, even tho' I confess when you said "I won't duck," my mind wandered to Duck Dynasty, which I've never watched, but I saw an article where they started a clothing line, and well, that's where my mind wanders sometimes lol. You are so photogenic and stylish - I'm glad you are now taking lots of photos and sharing them with your fans!

  26. I hate having pictures taken by DMV or public offices like that, because I become "camera angry", however, when my sons or my boyfriend take pictures of me, I am relaxed and I can't help to smile most of the times. You look wonderful in your pictures my dear and your outfit is very chic and I love how you wear your camo jacket.

  28. I've had a similar photo evolution. I've always taken pictures of myself and with friends, but I used to just ham it up because if I was being intentionally silly, it didn't matter if I looked terrible. But now I can take more serious pictures and pose with more confidence without feeling completely ridiculous or vain.

As usual, you've built an awesome outfit out of such surprising and seemingly mismatched pieces. That blingin' statement necklace with the camo jacket and leopard belt looks completely fab! I really do take notes from you, miss Lisa!

Until you reach a point in life when you go to look back at photos for memories, and find so little of you with your loved ones. Definitely made me more open to getting in front of the camera more, and drove me to take more photos! :)
