Copying Myself

estate stripes  estate stripes

I apparently enjoyed my outfit from this post so much that I had repeat the color and print combo - then I upped the "inspired by" factor by faking a (kind of) peplum as well.

As a style blogger, I guess it is an unwritten rule to never repeat an outfit. (Or let's be realistic - we just aren't supposed to post repeats).

But it's freaking hard sometimes to think of creative new ways of wearing certain pieces, especially if they've got a distinctive print or cut, and I've got about zero minutes to get dressed in the morning. And honestly, if I put together a butt-kicking outfit combo one day, isn't it a shame if I can't wear it again? (I repeat outfits all the time - I just don't post everyday. Style blog cheating, I know).

Are there outfit combinations that you can't help but to wear again and again? What are some of your fave pairings?

  1. Oh I'm always repeating outfits too...you'll just never see it repeated on my blog either! I don't think it's realistic to wear a totally new pairing daily. Lately I've been wearing a lot of green with leopard and mint with some shade of blue.

  2. Oh on the weekends I am always copying myself, I don't want to take time to put together a brand new outfit. Plus there are super lazy days at school and I just throw together an old outfit.

    1. Weekend dressing for me is either 1) higher stress because I'm doing something and want to be cas but still put-together in that intentionally "effortless" way or 2) really easy because I'm not really doing anything but errands and just throw on whatever doesn't clash (that much). ;o)

  3. I'm really not that creative, I'm always wearing the same outfits. And I'm pretty sure I post them too...but I try not to. The thing is, if you love an outfit, why don't you wear it over and over and over again? It's more realistic, I think.

And having said that, I don't think I would have guessed that this was a copycat outfit if you hadn't linked to your previous post. It's works, it's fab, just wear it. :)

  5. Lately I wear the same variations of everything. I am only interested in chic, but comfortable so only the same things go on rotation.

  6. Gorgeous combo. I can see why you repeated it. I try to stay creative (using Pinterest as my crutch) but I do often wear the same things or slight variations. I have some go-to simple outfits that are easy to pull out when I'm in a rush that are usually a combo of jeans, a tee & cardi plus some heels & a necklace. (Wearing that uniform today, actually)

    1. Nothing wrong with having a "uniform." If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? ;o)

  7. Dang, seriously? You are not suppose to repeat your posts? Oh, I haven't I just repeat my clothes, mostly shoes. oooops, no offense okay? hahahahaha.

Your shoes are making me seriously coveting them. Your fashions sense is supreme!

  8. Love this pretty outfit!! Great pattern combo, and I love the pop of pink with the shoes! (PS - I love your photos with the elements of each outfit together -- I might start taking those as well, if that's not copying!)

  9. For many years, I always went the safe route. Thanks to fashion blogs, I've been taking more risks. I keep seeing cute combos that I would have never in a million years thought to put together.

    1. I'm completely with you - before blogging, who the heck knew there was such a thing as "intentional pattern mixing?" And I do it all the time now!

  10. yes. blazer + button down + statement necklace + dark jeans = my uniform. oh well, perhaps i am boring. :P

  13. Gorgeous skirt - and I stay way from repeats - in real life :)
One of the things i fear is for it to seem as if i had a uniform.

    1. I don't mind the idea of having a set uniform (like blazer, jeans, heels, etc.) - I think if a person plays around with fit, pattern and mixing of accessories, it can still be a set way of dressing but seem completely different each time. However, this probably totally just means you are way more creative than I am and can see the full potential of your closet! ;o)

  14. I'm actually repeating a blog outfit in real life today! Not posting it again, but sometimes seeing photos of certain combos makes me want to wear them over and over again! This one's definitely worth a repeat. :)

    1. I know what you mean. Sometimes I go back through archives and just repeat an entire outfit - I may not blog about it, but co-workers certainly won't be all like, "oh you already wore that outfit on August 16!" ;o)

  15. I love this mix of colors and prints - and wouldn't mind repeats of it at all! I can't imagine not repeating outfits ever - I try to mix things up but would be a horrible style blogger!

  19. I don't mind the repeat because with just a subtle change the whole outfit looks different. I love the shirt tucked in in the other post but I also like the "fake" peplum look as well. Loving the color of that skirt and those shoes though! :)

  20. I love these prints together! You look incredible! I think you just described every blogger dilemma. If we only wore each outfit once -- we'd spend every penny we had and wasted a lot. I think that's why I value wardrobe remixes! Giving those pieces extra life and more room in your wardrobe. But yes, there are TONS of outfits I wore on the blog and re-wear a thousand times. Being a blogger makes us much more aware of our style. Which is both good and bad.

  25. I think the whole never repeating outfits thing is also probably much more easily replicated with bloggers who constantly get items courtesy of retailers. It's a bit of a shame the playing field isn't level, but at the same time, bloggers I most admire DO remix outfits quite often (even those with retailer privileges). It shows a sense of creativity and realism, not to mention the fact that style blogging is all about having a great sense of personal style; what better way to showcase that than having a specific look to always fall back on?

I love both iterations of this outfit, but the former just ekes out ahead, as I like the proportion of a slightly shorter top. I also own that Old Navy sweater, so maybe I'm biased. In a somewhat related question, did you get the sweater tailored at all? I find it quite long on me, well past my hips!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think your right, I think the proportions are better with the shirt tucked in - or if this sweater had been a tad shorter.

As for the ON sweater, I didn't get the sweater tailored. I just lay the ribbed hem part flat and kind of fold down the upper portion a bit (if that makes any sense) - then the sweater hits me at a higher point but it still looks neat.

  28. I don't see any problem with repeats - it's what you are wearing in real life isn't it and we don't all wear stuff, photograph it and then it never sees the light of day again for whatever reason. I for one appreciate seeing items reworn in various ways, it provides inspiration and keeps it real ;-)
