Winters are hardly too heinous here in the Southeast so my winter coat collection stands at a whopping two (and I've only worn one of the coats once so far this season - I know, I should never complain about the cold, right?) In fact, since moving south of the Mason-Dixon line a few years back, I've been steadily discarding myself of my winter weather clothes because I just have no need.
So of course when I saw this coat on Ebay, I had to have it.
But I've worn the hell out of it in the time that I've received it, bringing it to NYC and Asheville with me, then wearing it again last week when we had the cold spell (see, these pics, taken last week when it was quite literally brrrrr). I'm officially naming this coat my go-to for this season. In fact, I look forward to a few more chilly-willy days so I can get a proper wear out of this coat and the rest of my winter wardrobe. I know, I know, be careful what I wish for!
What's your go-to cold weather gear? What have you been wearing non-stop recently?
Coat: Gap (worn here - sim jacket, toggle, larger, B&W)
Sweater: Merona via Target (worn here - sim, darker)
Pants: Target (sim, sim, steal)
Necklace: c/o Simply Livly (worn here - sim steal, tonal)
Ring: F21 shooting star knuckle (worn here - sim blingy-er)
Boots: Type Z (worn here - sim, deal, pricey)
Bag: J.Crew claremont (sim, luxe, deal)
Linking up with Mix and Match Fashion and Vodka Infused Lemonade.
I think we have similar winters, as Tennessee is not super wintry (though we did have some single digits temps recently). I have been wearing NONSTOP this cobalt blue Jones New York cape that my Mom gave me a couple Christmases ago. I'm pretty sure she got it at Sam's Club.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it is so comfortable and soft (kind of like a thick sweatshirt?) but designed with a great belt-tie so it looks fancy enough to wear to work. I literally wear it everywhere, and it's great in winter because you don't have to shove sweater-layered arms into coat sleeves. So much freedom of movement. I'm wearing it in the photos in this Asheville post.
That cape is lovely on you - and I know what you mean about not having to shove your layered arms into small little coat sleeves - it's so easy putting this coat on!
DeleteScarves. I must have 30 in various colors and weights. Can't do without them here in the cold, cold North. They fill in the neckline of my coat and keep the wind and snow out, but they stay on in my office so that vent behind me doesn't blow directly on my neck. How long until summer????
ReplyDeleteI have a jacket or two and a few scarves/wraps hanging by my desk because it's always colder than it should be at the office, brrr!
DeletePJs as I've been sick for a week now.
ReplyDeleteI really wish I lived somewhere that I don't need a winter coat. Instead we have one large closet dedicated to only cold weather coats.
I do love this on you. I'm surprised it is by Gap. It's nice when the coat is so lovely you can dress very plain underneath and let the coat do all the work.
bisous
Suzanne
I hope you're feeling better now!
DeleteThat is a great coat, the shorter sleeves make it perfect for a warmer climate!
ReplyDeleteI love the plaid but sadly I could never wear a coat with 3/4 length sleeves here! During the polar vortex, the only thing that would cut it is my down parka. (not the cutest, but hey, I was warm).

The Tiny Heart
One thing I don't miss about the NE!
DeleteThis coat looks amazing on you! Definitely worth buying :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great on you. May I know the size of the coat? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki - this is XS and I think it runs a little big, but that just makes it easier for layering.
DeleteGo-to winter gear? Scarves and boots for me. Winter in Vietnam is actually colder than people imagine, due to the humidity, so a good coat is a must too.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I love how you wear your necklace under the cowl neck. It looks so cool!
That coat is awesome! So lovely! It is perfect with the grey top. Definitely worthy of being one of your winter coats.
ReplyDeleteJenni
Great find on ebay! Buffalo checkered is so on trend. Since I live in such warm temps, I should not need any coats. I did order a gorgeous red leather coat that I am waiting for it to arrive from Cananda. And I am still waiting for winter to arrive in CA....I think it's in the 80s today!

When something calls to you, you gotta have it!
DeleteThat's a great coat! I've just been wearing chunky/loose jumpers to work & at home. I've been so cold lately!
ReplyDeleteI have that exact sweater/sweatshirt on today (same color and everything) but haven't had a chance to take my outfit photos yet. I love it. It is so comfortable and WARM...AND makes wearing a sweatshirt a little classier than it really is :)
ReplyDeleteYes! I so love this top, I wish I had gotten it in more colors when it was available.
DeleteChunky sweaters for me! And sweater tights underneath all my pants - no one can see them but they ward off all cold air. I love that jacket - it looks so warm and is a great sport of the plaid trend!
ReplyDeleteFleece tights and a bright coat are making this winter so much more bearable. Also I just picked up smartphone leather gloves from J Crew last week - my life is now complete ha. How I wish NYC had a more temperate climate though...
ReplyDeletewww.indulgingmywanderlust.com
Smartphone gloves - smart! ;o)
DeleteFor the polar vortex, sheepskin. Long. Was glad I never had it shortened.
ReplyDeleteLove that coat on you!
That coat is gorgeous. It's so on trend, and I love that it adds print and color to your outfit, especially when it could be the only piece others see. Great purchase.

I love your coat. Love the plaid-like pattern on it. It is super cold in Canada this time of year and I mostly wear my Canada Goose parka which keep me nice and warm. Not too flattering but it does the job.
ReplyDeleteI get it - when it's super duper cold, all that matters is to stay warm!
DeleteOh boy I can see why you love it, it's a beautiful coat!
ReplyDeletewhat a cool ebay find lisa!!! i'm always on their looking for a good thing. i need to add coats to that list. i didn't even think about it. great coat girl.

We are sadly having a heat wave here in CA so I'll get some sweater weather in this weekend in Vermont. I love big cozy sweaters and flannel for warming up with a book. :)
ReplyDeleteOne lovely thing about cold weather is being able to layer up and snuggle down - so cozy!
DeleteIt amazes me that you only have two coats. Makes me feel a bit sheepish to have close to 8-10 coats. It's justified though since I live in Chicago, right? :)
ReplyDeleteYeah but I only have a few days where I can actually wear a reg winter coat - you guys need it. Brrr, lake-effect snow and winds ...
DeleteYour red and black coat is really cute! I especially love its 3/4 sleeves...you also wear a wonderful nail polish!!
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I am wearing non-stop my faux fur collar! It's so soft and warm!!
Thanks - it's called "mudslide" from Sally Hansen.
DeleteThe coat is super cute, love the plaid!
ReplyDeleteYour coat looks so cozy!
ReplyDeleteI'm a coat fanatic. Seriously, I probably have 20. Not because it gets particularly cold in Oregon, but rather because we get all kinds of weather in the winter. From zero degrees to a rainy 55 so I have coats of all different weights. Mostly though, I just love coats!
ReplyDeleteCoats are a great statement-maker - rock them!
DeleteI'm so in love with this coat!! You may need to hide it under lock and key....... Gorg!
ReplyDeleteThis coat is amazing! I really love the plaid. I like to collect stylish coats because they're basically all you see for months here in New York... our winters can be cold!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I don't miss about the NE is how bone-chilling the winters sometimes are. You need your coats!
DeleteSo loving this plaid coat and preppy bag! I need some more plaid in my life, ASAP.
ReplyDeletewww.room-334.blogspot.com
Such a lovely coat!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this coat! I can see why you would want to wear it all the time :)
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't get very cold here in Alabama either, so I've been using my relatively light gray leopard coat pretty often--it goes with everything!
Ooh, I need to check you out in your leopard coat!
DeleteI really love that coat. I am such a jeans girl. I wear jeans when it's cold, when it's warm. All the time. I need to break out of my habit. Even if it is comfy. My goal is to wear my skirts more often.
ReplyDeletexo,cynthia
Jeans literally are the only piece of clothing that defies seasons!
DeleteReally? Just two coats? I have upwards of 10, and lately I've been all about the red pea coat. This buffalo plaid is pretty great though.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
Yeah but I only have a few handfuls of days where I would actually wear a winter coat (and this isn't even technically a heavy one). Plus, I'm more all about the blazers!
DeleteThat is such a beautiful coat, I can see why you'd want the cold weather to stay for a little longer so you can get more wear out of it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm almost embarrassed to admit that even living in Australia I have a rather large collection of winter coats....haha. I do rotate through them a lot in winter though :)
Away From The Blue
Coats make a bold statement!
Deleteahhh this is so cute!! i'm in loooooove with your coat!! the plaid is so appropriate for the winter season i love it lisa!
ReplyDeletelove the chunky neck turtle neck :) very classy
ReplyDeleteI love this coat, Lisa. It's great to see the full outfit after seeing your snaps on Instagram. :)
ReplyDeleteBloody great coat. Excuse my French. Looks terrific on you, worn like this.
ReplyDeleteGreetje
Love the sleeve length on the coat - makes it so sophisticated and polished! Also, loving your monogram bag!

Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI adore this coat. I am partial to plaids and buffolo checks, and especially to shorter sleeved coats!
LOVE it! I am wearing pretty much everything, the weather in New York has been topsy turvy, cold on day, warm the next, then lots of rain in between.

AWESOME coat! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAdore everything about this outfit! Very chic!! I'm also secretly kicking myself for not buying this coat when I had a chance, but I live in Texas so I feel you on the limiting winter coat purchases.
ReplyDeleteLisa, sorry, one more question...what size coat are you wearing? I found one on an online post, but wanted to make sure I could squeeze myself and maybe a thin sweater underneath it before buying it!! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Jennie! I got this coat in XS and normally wear a size 2/2P/4P in J.Crew if that helps. I found the coat to fit a bit large but it works out to be able to layer underneath. Since the sleeves are wide and cropped, I've had no problems layering sweaters under the coat. It's not super-duper NE winter kind of warm, but if you're in TX, I think this coat would be just fine!
DeleteAwesome! Thanks for the quick reply! :)
DeleteThat coat is gorgeous. Between your beautiful Red Plaid Coat and Lyddie's Red Plaid Jacket, you ladies got me craving for a Red you ladies Plaid Topper myself. What state do you live in?
ReplyDeleteI'm in GA and I'm afraid/glad that most of the cold weather may be behind us now. It's be sunny and in the 60s for several days now!
