Time to get things up-to-date from some of my recent posts -
Thanks for your input on the midi length skirt on me, ladies. I've decided to take the skirt up a few inches so I've got some more flexibility in wearing it, but will keep it below-the-knee so I can still be all swishy and lady-like. This has opened my eyes for lengths that may or may not work for me, so I appreciate all your comments. There's nothing like a short poufy high-waisted skirt to make me look I'm a wannabe teeny bopper. Now I just need to take my lazy butt to the tailor's - is there an app for that ...

I got my exchanged faux leather skirt in and while the condition of it was much better than the original, I think I'm going to return it. While the skirt and idea of it is still pretty sweet in my book, there are too many good clothes still out there for me to waste my time with stuff I'm unsure about. Like this flippy skirt that's very Kate Spade-esque. Or this wintery plaid one with a fun ruffly accent. And then there's this dark floral number that is perfectly poufy and making me hope for a sale.

This was from way back in the summer, but I felt like I should report in because I seem to have hit a slump with my healthier eating habits. I got on my no-diet diet for a few weeks and did really well, even lost a few pounds. But I've gained that weight back and eating healthy continues to remain a challenge - mainly because I have a huge problem with carbs love them, love them, love them and portion control.
Like I mentioned before, my goal isn't to become teeny tiny (because I know I'm not big), but to eat healthier and to fit back into some of my clothes that don't look so good on me anymore. I think I lost focus for a while with the traveling for work and play that I've been doing, and stuff like making pizza dough which obviously resulted in the making and consuming way too much pizza this is pretty terrible, so I better eat it all - tell me I'm not the only one. So I'm going to recommit myself - starting now - and get back into eating more whole foods and grains, fewer white carbs.
That's me for a Monday. Anything going on with you that you want to follow-up on?

You're absolutely right, the world is full of great pieces so definitely don't waste time struggling to make something work. The bowtie skirt is adorable!

My vote is for that plaid skirt. Killer!
ReplyDeleteI think you made the right choice taking that skirt back. So many other pieces will make you feel like they were made for you.

Love this outfit. That dark floral skirt you have your eye on is so pretty, hopefully it goes on sale! I never really thought about how there is so much great stuff out there and to not waste your time on things you're not sure about, that might help me out a lot!
ReplyDeleteI know, I am hoping for a sale on that skirt too! Though I am not sure I'd have an occasion to wear it to ...
DeleteI love your dots combos Lisa! I have been in a major slump lately--ugh! Anyhow, to address your question on my blog, I didn't dress up this year (for the first time EVER!), but my husband was a redneck, my oldest son was a biker guy, my younger son was Optimus Prime and my daughter was a Monster High Girl.
ReplyDeleteAw, the fam costumes sound awesome! I always like the idea of dressing up for Halloween but I never end up doing well. Just get me one of those "this IS my costume" tees and call it a day! ;o)
DeleteLove the dots & love that necklace! I love necklaces like that & may get the Kohl's one you linked too since it's on sale. I need to get back into the habit of accessorizing. In my first couple months of pregnancy I stopped wearing any necklaces etc b/c it was just too much work :-) I still haven't gotten back into the habit after all these months of feeling better. I need to step it up!
ReplyDeleteThat floral skirt is sooo pretty! I could definitely see you in that one.
Don't beat yourself up too much about falling off your "non-diet" wagon. Just do the best you can. You'll get into a routine eventually. I found, for me, the WORST thing I can do is allow myself to beat myself up about not working out or eating right - for whatever reason it just makes everything worse. Each day I just try to wake up & make better decisions than I did the day before & not think about the mistakes I made previously. Like you said, it's not like you're trying to lose a ton or anything so NBD if it takes you a little longer to make it more of a habit.
"Step it up?" Girl, you're rocking pink patent stilettos - you're doing pretty darn well! ;o)
DeleteYou're too sweet! Thanks Lisa! :-)
DeleteDots on dots, super cute! Congrats on your successful no diet diet.. sounds like a great diet! ;)

Double dots !! i love this top but it has long sold out on JCrew :(
ReplyDeleteYou may be able to find one at a factory store.
DeleteI love this and this top is the one piece I wish I would have just bought last year. Regret. I'll be excited to see the skirt once it's hemmed on you too.
ReplyDeleteGinny
I loved this top since the beginning but kept hemming and hawing about it. This is the factory version when they had that 50% off sale.
DeleteI love the layers and the sparkle in this outfit!

ReplyDeleteLove it! Very cute.
ReplyDeleteI love the sparkly polka dot to[p! It was in my cart during the J.Crew Factory 50% off sale but I ended up getting some jewelry instead.
ReplyDeleteI still say you look fab as is.

I WISH there was an app for a tailor! I can never find the time/energy to go over to one, explain the issue, pay and then pick it up!
ReplyDeleteI know, me too!
DeleteI love the dots on dots Lisa! :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully something positive will come from a few meetings this week. We shall see. And it was mail day today - hooray!

Oooh! I love follow up posts! I am glad to hear your decisions. The dots are super cute!
ReplyDeleteI lost 76 pounds on weight watchers. I have been in maintenance for 8 months. Every single day is a challenge. I love all of those naughty foods. Weight Watchers does not restrict me. I still eat what I want. But it comes down to choices and sacrifice.
Anyway! Good luck to you! You look great to me!
Jenni
76lbs, that's fantastic! You look great!
DeleteWhat a fun outfit Lisa! I love the polka dot on polka dot layering!! Genius!!
ReplyDeleteLisa, I love the sequin dot tee, and the way you styled it! it is great looking, fresh and eye catching. Don't stress about your weight! I know it is important to eat healthy, so do that, but always add chocolate and wine!

Or in my case, McDonald's soft serve ice cream!
DeleteLove this. I have the same blythe blouse but not sure it would work with my white base polka dot sequin top. Can't wait to see your new and improved skirt.

I think the white version of the sequin top would look great with a denim shirt and black bottoms, like those leather-insert leggings you've got!
Deletei love your layering of double polka dots and those jeans look really great on you! and carbs are my enemy too -- addicted to cereal. I'm recommitting to eating less of them too!
ReplyDeletecute & little
My carb weakness is bread - crusty chewy bread. Mm, mm.
DeleteI love this look on you..not only do I love polka dots but I love the sequins as well. You look great as always!

You are just too cute! I've worn the same sequin top with a dotted shirt but I love how you're wearing a shirt with bolder dots, will give that a go the next time. I have a little bit of advice you might try re: food, chew every bite thoroughly. ;)
ReplyDeleteI need to learn to eat slower - I just scarf most food down!
DeleteThis outfit is so cute! You styled polka dots and layers perfectly here, and I love your fun sequin top!

this is fabulous! I will definitely be trying this combination :) thanks for the inspiration! I have both items and have yet to wear the sequin top.
ReplyDeleteyou look great - I have the same issues with loving carbs and portion control...so I completely understand. I'm sure traveling a lot doesn't help. Take it a day at a time, you'll get there!
I adore the sequin top but I know what you mean - it's really really sparkly in real life. You gotta have one of those days where you want to be the brightest person in the room, haha.
DeleteI have always loved that sequined top. Looks great with the double dots. Your shoes & purse are gorgeous. I love how you tied the scarf to the strap. Great outfit.
ReplyDeleteI love your polka dot sequins! I think returning the leather skirt was the right choice. Definitely get something you are actually going to love over something you only love the idea of.

There are a ton of clothes I love the idea of, haha.

Love the dots on dots! So classy.
ReplyDeleteHey, you did the No-Diet thing once, so you can do it again, right? (No-Diet makes me think of the No-Prize from Marvel comics, remember those? ;) ) You had the willpower to stick with it for a while, it's only natural that travel would disrupt it - I've experienced a similar thing, what with just getting back from Japan and all the gorgeous food there. We've both just gotta get back on that horse, then I'm sure it'll be fine. (Says the lady who had homemade duck udon for dinner. Hah!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouraging words - and now you've got me thinking of ramen, haha. I love ramen!
DeleteI love this- such a beautiful spin on my favourite cozy combo black tee and distressed denim! I hear you girl- I have a recent addiction to poutine (killer) but i'm starting slow by trying to cut out some sugar. I cannot express how much I want a can of coke right now! :)
ReplyDeleteThis top is so beautiful! I love how you mixed a fancy blouse with boyfriend jeans, too!

This is such a perfect outfit. I combines so many of my favourite things like polka dots and sequins. I adore the red bag and the shoes and necklace are so classy.
ReplyDelete#1 - LOVE this outfit! All of your bracelets and glitter in the top...so girly & fun!!
ReplyDeleteCan this be confessional? :) I'm not even catholic so I guess I can't pretend.
This is what's going on for me...
Being a working Mom sucks! I mean, I keep telling myself this is what is best for my family, but I'm having guilt in every area of my life because I feel like I am not doing anything 100%...and that's just not me.
I've come to realize I'm an emotional shopper. I shop when I'm down or need a pick-me-up and that results in impulse buying. I'm going on a no-spend November...let's just hope I don't binge shop after this is up.
That's all I've got for this morning :)
Hi Leah - I'm not a working mom butI feel for your frustration. I can't imagine the juggling act it sometimes must be to work and have children to care for, my big sis had to do the same thing. Hang in there!
DeleteLisa, I love this outfit and everything you wear. You are super chic and classy lady. I do understand the frustration with trying to eat healthy, I started a little over 4 weeks ago to eat clean and working out and even though I've kept it up and do see improvement I can't shake off my sweet tooth especially during my time of the month... But I keep reminding myself (also the hubs) that this takes time and as long as I'm consistent and keep it up I can achieve my goal. And this might sound vain and shallow but I really want my clothes to fit me better....

This look is gorgeous. I can rave about this outfit. I want it myself. But I am wiser than copying it and finding out it looks not half as nice on me as it does on you.
ReplyDeleteGosh, how I like this !!
