"Life is like a box of chocolates," right? So with the bad often comes the good and vice versa, regardless of how big or small that thing is in your life. Here are some of my variables:
The good: Since starting my blog, I take a lot more pics in general now and make an effort to capture the moments in my life.
The bad: Sometimes I find myself too busy trying to frame up a shot rather than just enjoying the moment.
The
good: Since getting a treadmill, I have only missed three days of
running, which means I've been doing my best to consistently exercise each day.
The
bad: I can't help but to admit that I would have liked to have lost a
bit or felt trimmer, but so far the only sign of a difference is that my
boots fit tighter across the calves. Or just my right calf. My left calf apparently remains unimpressed with this whole "exercise business."
The good: Finally upgrading from my Blackberry to an iPhone. Welcome to 2007.
The bad: Probably not knowing what to do with about 80% of its functionality. But seriously, Siri, when I ask you to take me to iTunes, I am not sure why you tell me to go to the nearest Apple store. And are you really recording everything I ask?

The good: Style blogging makes me want to make more of an effort to
look nice on a day-to-day basis, which ends up with me feeling generally
better about myself.
The bad: I feel like I constantly need to think of ways to "one up" myself in terms of my outfits.
The good: Watching The Carrie Diaries.
The bad: Also watching My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding.
(Didn't TLC used to stand for The Learning Channel? Between these guys
and Honey Boo Boo, I'm not sure what they are trying to teach me.)
The good: My hair stylist is now making house calls, so it saves me a bunch of time and effort.
The bad: This means I need to clean the house before she shows.
The good: Self-tanner.
The bad: My feet and ankles are just a touch unevenly orange ... and by "a touch" I mean whoops.

What are some of the goods and bads of your life lately?
Dress: J.Crew scalloped (sim, lace, sweater)
Top: H&M (sim, sim, sim)
Necklace: J.Crew factory chandelier (worn here - sim, sim, pricey)
Bracelets: J.Crew wildflower (sim), C.Wonder pave initial (enamel), YuniKelley via Etsy (sim)
Bag: Brahmin anytime (worn here - sim, luxe, deal)
Shoes: Guess kissani (worn here - sim, sim, platform)
What an awesome idea layering this dress! I feel your pain on the treadmill end...I sometimes feel like exercising makes no difference in my weight..dieting works so much better for me..but I hate it!
ReplyDeleteI honestly hate to sweat, but I'd rather workout than eat less, except dieting is more effective. Darn it!
DeleteGood: Sprinkles Cupcakes opened a shop a few minutes' walk from me.
ReplyDeleteBad: Sprinkles Cupcakes opened a shop a few minutes' walk from me.
Oh god, this happened to me 2 years ago. Be strong, friend, be strong. And be glad they stopped having the daily "whisper this word for a free cupcake" thing on Twitter.
DeleteI had my first Sprinkles experience in NYC. The cinnamon cupcakes are da bomb.
DeleteOh my god, I just posted about my disaster with self tanner. Do you use it all over or just on your legs? I am SOOOO afraid of using it on my arms, at least with legs you can kind of hide the mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI only am doing my legs for now. I honestly haven't seen much of a difference on my legs at all - but the tops of my feet, especially my right foot, are pretty "tan colored."
DeleteLove your dress and top Lisa! Very nice mix indeed doll. The scalloped hem on the dress is beautiful. I have one that's similar to yours: blogging. The Good - Blogging has made me reach out and visit new places The Bad - I often don't fully enjoy, because Im trying to get THE SHOT. Have a Great Week
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean!
DeleteThat bag is gorgeous...drooling!
ReplyDeleteThe good: Having a vending machine next door.
The bad: Having a vending machine next door means eating late night chocolates.

I love the scalloped hem! And the link bag and flats! I feel the same way about taking more photos to document the little inspirations and finds I come across, but sometimes being too busy to frame a shot! And yay for treadmill - that's great that you've been sticking to it! And the iPhone will take practice but once you have a good handle on it nothing else will compare!
ReplyDeleteWell it is nice to have a smart phone that is actually somewhat smart.
DeleteThe good - my husband's large peach sized kidney cancer being diagnosed as benign last Monday (only 3% chances of that happening)
ReplyDeleteThe bad - there isn't any after that.
Sweet scallop dress : )
bisous
Suzanne
Congrats to you and your honey, girl! That is fantastic news.
DeleteWhat a sweet dress! The scalloped bottom is so adorable. (And I completely agree about The Learning Channel. I've often wondered the same thing.)
ReplyDeleteFizz and Frosting
I'm actually scared to think that there are people watching "Honey Boo Boo" and learning something. ;o)
DeleteI love the scalloped edge of that dress - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe Good: our kitchen facelift is finally done!
ReplyDeleteThe Bad: Those few little "touches" that I need hubby to do but am afraid to ask for fear of sounding like a nag. Anyone want to tell me how to swap out light switches????
We've got pretty high ceilings in our house which is awesome - except when it comes to changing lightbulbs. I can't reach most of the lights to change them even with the step stool. And that also concludes my expertise in anything handy.
DeleteOh my goodness..... This is one of your BEST looks! I love love love everything about it and you look just beautiful. Everything = perfection.
ReplyDeleteyes, iphone! and i love your dress!
ReplyDeleteK
i always love reading the random stuff that you write :)
ReplyDeletegood: leaving for maui in 7 days
bad: as far as planning goes, we have bought the tickets... and thats it
Maui?! Lucky lady!
DeleteI really like how the arms of the dress are scalloped well. Are you using the different settings on the treadmill? Incline, HIIT? Sometimes you have to mix it up to see a difference. Take some time to check out the apps( Instagram, songza, zara😋, zinio) that's what I really like about the iPhone.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten too fancy with the treadmill yet, so no inclining or HIIT (what is that?). I've been playing with variable speeds - I'm usually between a brisk walk at 3mph or lung-burning (for me) running at 5mph.
DeleteHigh intensity interval training. You tube has some great examples of doing it on a treadmill.
DeleteAw good and bad things always seem to even themselves out. I love the stripes and scallops today Lisa!
ReplyDeleteUgh, don't get me started on self tanner. I live each spring and summer on a self tanning roller coaster--how I "tan" is literally so complicated that I can't even put it here. I will have to do a whole post on it.
ReplyDeleteI love the scallop dress. I think I need it!!!
Taylor
Glad to know I'm not the only one with self-tanner issues. The top of my right foot is very "tan" while the rest of my legs still look about the same.
Deletethe good: spring and summer fashions seem to be coming to stores = hooray bright colors!
ReplyDeletethe bad: that means i need a swimsuit. to wear in front of coworkers. ouch.
the hem on this dress is just awesome!
Ooh, new swimsuit. New swimsuit to wear in front of co-workers - double burn. I feel for ya, lady!
DeleteThis dress- I want it! Loved the idea behind this post :)
ReplyDeleteThe good: The weather is finally starting to warm up- yay!
The bad: Now I want to spend all my money on a new spring wardrobe. haha
You are so cute! I love this post.
ReplyDelete1. I think I would actually consider making a little bitty pact with the devil in exchange for larger calves - isn't it funny that one person's "bad" could be another person's "good"?
2. Your stylist makes house calls now? My mind is suddenly blown by a vision of that utopian alternate universe.
3. I think every single one of us with a "style blog" knows exactly what you mean about feeling the pressure to one-up ourselves.
4. Wait, there's a show called My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding? That kind of makes me happy we don't have a TV. (I've heard of Honey Boo Boo but have never had the pleasure/punishment of watching her.)
Utopian alternate universe also involves standing with your head in your kitchen sink while soap and chemicals run down your face as stylist washes your hair after highlighting! ;o)
DeleteAs for Honey Boo Boo, she's fun for about one episode. Then you'd be like "these people are for real?!" Yes they are.
Haha, good point about the hair washing in the sink. I forgot about that part!
DeleteI love this outfit and that necklace is so pretty! I totally ne'er stand the outfit one upping, some outfits I loved a year ago don't even seem blog-worthy today.
ReplyDeleteGinny
mynewfavoriteoutfit.blogspot.com
Some of my early blog day outfits are cringe-worthy to me now!
DeleteLove the simplicity of this outfit!
ReplyDeleteThe good: shopping at Jcrew when they have 50% off the entire store.
The bad: still end up spending hundreds of dollars.
The good: falling in love with pinterest.
The bad: sore arms and wrists.
The good: falling in love with floral pencil skirts.
The bad: i have none. :s
Pinterest is the best/worst isn't it. What a fun time suck! ;o)
DeleteLove!!! Great jumper, love the stripes and the colors are awesome, nice post as usual,
ReplyDeleteLove that bag.
ReplyDeleteThe good: Those SHOES you're wearing!
ReplyDeleteThe bad: They're in your closet & not mine.....
:-)
Happy Monday!
If it makes you feel better, they're not that comfy - I wear them on days I know I won't be doing a ton of walking!
DeleteThe good: Spring is finally here!
ReplyDeleteThe bad: Gotta wax those legs! ;)
I love the J Crew scallop dress and was tempted to try it when I saw it in the store. I've posted bout how I'd like my ideal version though. It looks good on you and I adore the cheery accessories that you matched for the outfit. :)
Shift dresses are definitely tricky silhouettes to fit!
DeleteThe scalloped dress is fabulous !!! honestly love this :)
ReplyDeleteThe good : I just finished my last paper for this semester.
The bad: School starts again in 2 weeks.
Enjoy your time off while you can!
DeleteThat scalloped hem is so pretty, and I love your pink bag! Gorgeous! I hear you about the "bad" of fashion blogging. I always feel the same way...that I have to one up myself...kind of exhausting. :)

I love this scalloped dress and it looks great on you too! I wish they weren't sold out online on this one. I am glad that you also love the Carrie Diaries, as it is one of my favorite shows. And the TLC channel, I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteWho knew this dress would sell out so quickly? I am wondering if it won't pop back online soon as people start making their returns. Shift dresses are tricky to fit.
DeleteKatie - the NYC 5th avenue received another shipment of the dresses in all colours. I saw a ton of them last night so give them a ring!
DeleteI love, love this dress.
ReplyDeleteMethod Clothe
your dress is so cute and i would have never thought to layer it that well! as a blogger the feeling of "one upping" ourselves gets harder and harder and when that feeling creeps up, i style a normal everyday look and that helps!

C's Evolution of Style
I love your fun jewelry! And yes, I have wondered that about TLC as well :)
ReplyDeleteGranted I love "What Not to Wear" but I don't think I've "learned" anything from The Learning Channel in forever!
DeleteThe good - an amazingly good rehearsal all over Easter for the play I'm in. And I know neeearly all my lines for the first act. WOOT!
ReplyDeleteThe bad - I have an eye infection and am viewing the world through a curtain of pus. UGH!
The good - I've been staying with my mum and she's been spoiling us with delicious home cooking!
The bad - it snowed! Again! It's frigging April now, get With the program, Nature!
Oh no, I hope you've recovered from your eye infection!
DeleteThis dress is beautiful! I love the scalloped detail.
ReplyDeleteAnd I too, just got an iphone. But not even a 5, not even a 4s. I went with the 4 because it cost $1 and I knew I didn't need Siri. When my bf got the 4s we tried asking her how to zoom the camera on the phone and she got us directions to the nearest camera store. Bah.
Haha, yeah it is not worth getting a newer phone just for Siri, so ain't worth it IMO! I have the 5 and what kind of peeves me about it is that they have a new plug for it, so I can't borrow my friends' old 4 or 4S accessories!
DeleteToday, I am reminded that I don't just follow your blog for your amazing sense of fashion; I also love your words. What a great idea for a blog post. I hope you don't mind my borrowing it for mine. ;p
ReplyDeletewww.myclosetcatalogue.com
Aw, thanks! And go for it!
DeleteI've been drooling over this dress for weeks - it looks amazing on you (that's the good). The bad is, if I keep seeing all my fave bloggers in it, I might just have to pull the trigger and buy it!

See Mo Go.
Aren't we our own best/worst enablers?! ;o)
DeleteLove love LOVE this outfit! That blue color is gorgeous on you, and that dress is sooo pretty. Makes me wish I could find a cheaper version someone (or hope that J.Crew Factory makes a similar version!).

Yep I have the same "issues" with both of my calves...the more I use the treadmill seems like they get bigger...meh.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress paired with the striped shirt. The scalloped detail gives it such a girly feel to it
I think my jeans are starting to fit tighter in the legs too - but they feel about the same in my muffin top area! ;o)
DeleteLoving the scalloped hem!
ReplyDeleteI completely love this post! So fun!
ReplyDeleteI still don't get Siri but I completely love my iPhone!
Gorgeous dress and outfit!
I keep Siri off most of the time, I don't really find her that helpful!
DeleteOMG I'm obsessed with that scalloped dress! Too bad it's sold out- boo!! I loved reading this post- it's great that your hair stylist comes to your home!

I totally didn't expect this dress to sell out as quickly as it had - I bet it'll come back as people make returns, etc. Or hopefully JC will decide to bring this back in more colors!
Deleteobsessed with that dress

Love this post Lisa! The scalloped bottom of the dress is so pretty! Great job on the treadmill and I feel your pain. I exercise 5-6 days a week but my weight won't budge - all due to my diet!

Oh I totally don't eat well, but I figure I don't necessarily eat worse than I did before the treadmill, so what do all those calories I supposedly burn up running do?
DeleteHaha, I want a hair stylist that makes house calls! Awesome! :D I need to learn the art of framing my shots. I recently bought a self-timer..and I may delve into your world soon :D

ReplyDeleteHOTPINKstyle
Love the color combo and the stripes + scallops! I hear ya on the house-cleaning bit ... I just gave my room a very thorough cleaning so the makeup artist could come over to do my wedding makeup!
ReplyDeleteIt was a weird experience to get my hair washed with my head in the kitchen sink though!
DeleteGood: having the best time of my life
ReplyDeleteBad: afraid it won't last
Great post! Love the whole outfit! Xx

Lisa you styled this scalloped dress so perfectly! I love it in the Navy Color and how you layered the striped blouse underneath:)!

I have two cases for my phone and they are both solid leather ones. Boring - I know!
DeleteYour outfit is great. Any chance you could share your opinion on the fit of the dress? Is it TTS?
ReplyDeleteHi there - I got my usual size in J.Crew and I think it fit me fine. I'm not very curvy and that worked well for the shape of the shift dress - it is only shaped in the back so it doesn't fit tight, nor does it fit straight up and down like most other shifts. The material is thick without seeming heavy and it is unlined. I am wearing a reg size though and I'm only 5'2" so this dress is short - may be too short for most reg height ladies. Hope this helps!
DeleteThanks a lot Lisa. That's very helpful. I've ordered in my regular size. Fingers crossed it fits!
Deletethis is such a cute post! love your answers....as always! =) and that dress is adorbs.

I love how you styled the Scalloped Dress!! And those shoes....love it!!
ReplyDeleteLaughed so hard at your "unimpressed left calf"...I so know what you mean! No matter how much weight I lift at the gym with my left arm, all of my sleeves are tighter on my right! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThe good: I'm graduating from undergrad in May.
The bad: I'm nowhere near finished writing my senior seminar paper, I have to figure out some way to get my clothes from the east coast to the west coast, and I'm graduating from undergrad in May. Help!
Thanks for putting a smile on my face today :)
This dress is awesome!!! What's also awesome is that your hair stylist makes house calls. That's a great idea! Congrats on the iphone - you will so love it:)

Love the way you styled the dress Lisa - I am going to copy this for sure!
ReplyDeleteAlso hairdresser who makes house calls? Awesome!
On my end - a humble brag if you wish:
Good - losing a bit of weight through portion control
Bad - some of my old favourites don't fit! Letting go is so hard
Beautiful outfit. Well styled (as usual). Had to laugh over your Good and Bad. I think cleaning your house because your hairdresser visits you is a good thing not a bad. I am always very pleased if I have visitors.... finally the house looks tip top again.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is just too adorable!
