Different but the Same

sweater, scarf, camo sweater, scarf, camo

I like the idea of contrasting a bold color with the muted camouflage print, so a few weekends ago when I was trying to figure out what to wear with these jeans, I decided to play around a bit. I ended up putting together two visually different outfits with the same type of components that both seemed to play off well with the drab green tones (and it's finally in the neighborhood of being cool enough to wear scarves around here, so yay for the contents of my overflowing scarf drawer).

I always liked the idea of camo print pants but had always been afraid to wear them until I found this subdued pattern - now I'm wondering why I had waited so long since I want to wear them all the time. Camo is supposed to go with everything, right? Plus the legs in this pair are slim but don't strangle my thighs and calves - hallelujah for circulation!

  1. Absolutely fun! You know I'd be partial to the blue but that orange is actually giving it a run for its money. Brilliant outfits, both! And I love how you paired a scarf and a necklace together without one overpowering the other.

    1. You are def all about the cobalt blue - but I think you'd look fab in some punchy red-orange yourself!

  2. Both great pairings. I always struggle with pairing olive yet it feels so neutral that it goes with everything.

    1. I kind of agree - olive is one of those colors that do kind of go with everything. Yay for neutrals!

    1. I actually stayed away from yellow and orange for YEARS bc someone somewhere mentioned once that Asians didn't look good in those colors. But then I tried it ... and I haven't looked back since!

  6. Oooo, I love the blue look! Mainly because that scarf is calling my name. Nice find with the subdued camo in a skinny pant! The last time I tried on camo, I happened to also be wearing a black top and felt like I belonged in an action movie, haha! I could've used a more subdued version then!

  8. Greetings Lisa - Thank you for the outfit ideas. I've limited my camo, but own a lot of olive green. I wouldn't have thought the bright blue would go with them, but now I am convinced! BTW, you win my vote for best blogger outfit photos. Why? Here is the criteria:

    1. Photos are well-lighted, super-duper extremely clear, and taken in front of a neutral background so the colors and patterns really come through.

    2. Full body shots allow the reader to see the entire outfit, while close-ups provide detail on the jewelry, handbags, and other accessories.

    3. Not over-posed. Sorry, I just can't deal with wistful looks into the distance, although wistful look are justified for the next J.Crew, Banana Republic, or Anthropologie sale.

    4. I understand the need/desire to be headless via cropping or the "iPhone on front of face" strategy, but it's nice to see your face and pretty smile! And the earrings that frame it too!

I don't know if your BF is taking your photos, or if you have a remote and tripod setup, but this seems to produce the best results. I prefer this over the "iPhone looking down at outfit" method. You and Chloe of thechloeconspiracy seem to be of the same mind on this one.

Thanks as always for the fashion inspiration!

    1. Thanks so much, I'm flattered you like my pics! I've always tried to make it all about the outfits, especially since I lack in some good camera skills.

I actually take my own pics with a tripod and timer (and I think Chloe does as well - I looove her blog and style) - it just makes things simpler for me that way so I'm not waiting on someone else's schedule or taking up their time. It does kind of limit my settings and stuff but I try to just keep the background clean and simple and make it all about the clothes.

      Thanks so much, Jennifer!

  13. I am definitely adding those pants to my wishlist! I like olive and the camo trend, but I wanted something a little understated--these are perfect! I wouldn't have thought to look at Land's End. Do their pants run true to size? I've never bought anything from them.

    1. I was the same way until I found these pants. I find that LE clothes tend to lean a bit on the larger side so I usually order one size down from my usual in their knit dresses - however in these jeans (and another pair of pants I bought there recently), I ordered my normal size and they fit fine. I find these jeans don't tend to stretch out too bad either, so I don't end up with baggy butt or have to order a size down - HTH!

  16. Bravo, you really know how to work a scarf. Elongating it with a necklace.... clever. Hadn't thought of that. And that blue and yellow one, I have in neon pink. Never know how to tie it. Even though it came with instructions haha.
