As a gal who used to hate skinny jeans, I ended up embracing the look a year or two ago because the once-trend didn't seem like it was in any rush to go anywhere. But since I don't have skinny-mini gams, my way to make the look work for me is to get skinny-straight jeans and to wear them rolled - so they fit the largest part of my legs thighs and I get to show off the skinniest part ankles. These things called "jeggings" - no bueno for me.
As skinnies continue in popularity though, it can get a wee bit frustrating when you're in the market for a different type of jean leg. Especially since my fave fit of jean - the J.Crew hipslung with the gently flared leg - has long since been discontinued (plus petite length jeans are gone - why JC?) So I tend to scour Ebay and hoard them if I can find them in my size.
Every once in a while though, I will take a pair of hoarded hipslung jeans out for a spin - then remember why I love them and have to hide them away again (my precious ...)
Blazer: Ann Taylor (worn here - sim, sim)
Top: J.Crew gondola stripe (worn here - cas, luxe, as skirt)
Shirt: F21 bejeweled georgette (worn here - sim, deal, long-sleeved)
Jeans: J.Crew hipslung (worn here - sim, sim)
Necklace: J.Crew coated stone (sim, sim)
Bracelets: F21 luxe faux set (spiked) & Sage K and Co (sim, the original)
Shoes: Michael Kors hamilton (worn here - sim, low heel)
Bag: C.Wonder colorblock (worn here - latest version, sim, pricey)
Those jeans make you look taller! Very flattering!
ReplyDeleteCool, thanks!
DeleteI love this blazer-shirt combo. I'm with you in other styles if jeans other than skinny jeans, there is still definitely a place for them in my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteThose jeans look fabulous on you! I can see why you love them so much. I have embraced jeggings only because they fit so perfectly into a nice pair of boots on those cold winter days. Speaking of...we went from pleasant Fall weather on Monday to dead of winter yesterday! We got about 8 inches of snow & it's not gonna get above 30 for at least a week! Ugh...I was hoping for a more gradual intro to the cold. Hope this storm skips you guys!
ReplyDeleteWe usually just get a whole lotta cloudy wet days in the SE. I don't think I've seen the sun all week!
DeleteI know! I actually love the skinny jeans, but what happened to good ole fashion bootcut anyway? Or flared? I love this preppy look Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI know! Stores have like one or two bootcut/flared styles and five million skinny jeans.
DeleteThose hipslung jeans are much more flattering on you than skinnies. I can see why you love them! I am wearing good old boot cuts today... it's sad that they aren't as popular anymore! I get sick of skinnies!
ReplyDeleteI agree! One thing about skinnies though, they do show off some good footwear, haha!
DeleteThat is so true!!!
DeleteAhh I have an old pair of joes I occasionally take out.. usually only when I'm on the sofa watching football though. ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit Lisa! Stripes and blazers are always a good pair.
Boot cuts are definitely your type of jeans! You look great wearing it styled a la preppy too. :)
ReplyDeletewhat a great pair of jeans. you look awesome! xo
ReplyDeleteThose jeans are fabulous on you. I haven't had a pair that I've loved for quite a few years. I too have given in to skinny jeans, but I'm really mindful of how I wear them. With my full figure, I feel like I have to play with proportions a lot and wear longer, looser tops to get a look I'm comfortable in. I'm also a fan of bootcut and light flares, but they're getting fewer and farther between. Those wide leg trousers are a disasters on me because my legs look like stumpy tree trunks. It's ridiculous. Perhaps these are other reasons why I've converted almost exclusively to skirts and dresses?
ReplyDeleteAnyways, your look overall is so cute. Love the preppy outfit with the stripes to keep it fun and the necklace to keep it feminine.
Liz
I agree, I gotta be careful with the type of skinny jean I get, otherwise my legs look like stuffed sausages, haha.
DeleteYour layering is seriously so perfect with this outfit!! Love it all!

Your entire outfit is wonderful: clear and bright with great accessories! I adore those jeans on you and I actually have a stash of them!! For once in my shopping life, I accurately predicted the demise of an item I loved and stocked up! One pair has been worn to DEATH and is so soft! I actually get compliments on the wash, which I must say is pretty much my doing as they were dark to start with! It is such a flattering cut and leg line.... and JC didn't replace it with anything comparable. I spend my time contemplating whether IRL matchsticks are smaller than toothpicks as I try to decide what to try on. Neither of those are great on me though I own a couple. For me now, it is AG Stevies all day, every day!
ReplyDeleteThe first pair of hipslungs I got were 100% cotton and I lived in them! I ended up developing wear holes on the butt and leg and sadly had to retire them when the jeans got too risque! ;o)
Deleteseems like skinny jeans have been sticking around for pretty long! i was half-expecting a new cut to be the "it" jean a year ago. ha.

Finding the perfect pair of jeans is soooo tough. Even for someone like me who looks like I could fit into any type of jean. I still have the hardest time finding a pair that's flattering. When I heard "flared leg" I was a little concerned...haha. I had flashbacks to all the unflattering jeans I wore in high school when those were popular! But you are right - that cut of jean is flattering on you!

I know what you mean. I mean, jean styles Look all very sim, but who would think little details like back pocket placement or combination of fabric materials would make a world of difference to the wearer?
DeleteFlared jeans paired with heels looks great on you :) Love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean! Skinny jeans don't exactly work for my body type either, so I try to stick to wearing them with boots--otherwise, I go for the slightly flared leg like you. You look fantastic in this outfit!
ReplyDeleteI get the skinny-straight ones or else my legs look like stuffed sausages, haha.
Deleteyou look so awesome! love the jeans..

These jeans look great on you Lisa. I also love the blazer with the stripe gondola top... perfection! I often wonder when the skinny jean trend will wane and some new cut will come into style.
ReplyDeleteNo more super flares though! ;o)
DeleteAdorable! I love eBay for that very reason. They always have "it"!
ReplyDeleteskinny jeans really just took over the world. but sometimes i like to embrace other, wider cuts too. they can be so flattering and no one seems to care anymore!
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
when you find a jean of a certain cut, you will go to the end of the internet to find them. lol they look great on you. love your blazer and sweater lisa. looks great!

These jeans look great on you. I was looking for some boot cut jeans and found them at WHBM which are very similar to the ones you are wearing. I wanted just a slight flair. I am fan of all type of jeans - they all serve a different purpose.

I've never purchased anything about WHBM before - I didn't realize they had denim!
DeleteI'd much rather wear a jean that shape than skinnies, every day of the year. I hate skinny jeans (runners calfs + skinny jeans = feel as though my legs are being strangled) so tend to stick with straight styles. I do have some skinnies but I don't feel comfortable in them. I've been telling myself for months I'm just going to throw them all away and start again with a really great jean that suits me and is comfortable, regardless of fashion/trends. Not done it yet as in general I don't really like jeans that much at the moment. One day though!
ReplyDeleteI got big calves AND quads, so especially the "jegging" style is unforgiving for me!
DeleteJeans are my nemesis. I don't blame you for hoarding a good style though, and damnit that something you like gets discontinued...
ReplyDeleteThose jeans are amazing on you. I know what you mean about hoarding a favourite pair of jeans. I have a pair of J Brands that are perfect - ankle length, slim through the leg with a tiny kick out at the ankle. After a year of wearing them constantly, I realized I might be wearing them out but when I checked online, they were sold out everywhere and J Brand has discontinued the style! Waaah!!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I hate when retailers do that ... like when I find the perfect lip shade and then Sephora stops making it ...
DeleteOMG, This outfit is perfecet. Love all those accessories! :)

Those jeans look great on you! I will always be a fan of the flare, no matter what anyone says :)

You got to wear those jeans more often! They make you look so tallll! Like you've been stretched on one of those racks they use to stretch basketball-players on, haha. But seriously, what are yoy saving those jeans for, Christmas!? Something that you look that awesome in must be worn way more often! (Sorry if this makes no sense. Victor plied me with mojitos.hic!)
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching The Tudors on Netflix, so thinking of stretching racks brings to mind some gruesome visuals, haha.
DeleteLove that blazer! What a great look!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Terry!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why I used to hate skinny jeans but I did. It's ridiculous to think that I ever considered wearing something else. Funny how that works.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your layering here...I will have to try that with my gondola tee!
ReplyDeleteTry American Eagle's new kick boot style! I have the destroyed pair, and they are just right (mid-rise, slim thigh, boot leg, short length!). :)

lol, so funny (my precious), I only have 2 pairs of denim jeans, one is skinny and the other flared, jeans rarely fit me well they always give me a muffin top if they fit in the hips and legs, and if they fit in the waist they are very large on the legs and hips. :(
ReplyDeleteThose jeans are great. Why are you hiding them? They are perfect on you!
ReplyDeleteI do know what you mean, though. Or I think I do. I hoard my favorite pair for just the perfect outfit because I do not want anything to happen to them.
Thankfully, I found an extra pair on clearance last week. Let the wearing commence!
Jenni
Before I even read this, my first thought was how great these jeans looked on you. They are the perfect color and perfect amount of flare in the legs. Love the layers here, too!
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteI Love this crisp combo of orange and navy, Love the statement necklace, and bag, and think that the jeans you are wearing fit you beautifully! We don't have to take on every trend...

Oh, I love love love this look! The bracelet and necklace really add some spice to the preppy look.
ReplyDeleteAll I ever seem to wear anymore are skinnies and jeggings. Can't help it, I love them.
ReplyDeleteI love straight/bootcut jeans and it feels like scavenger hunt trying to find them in stores. Like you, I scour eBay instead to stock up on those jeans that fit. I'm not a fan of skinny jeans, leggings, jeggings, even if I can pull them off. I think one should wear what is flattering to one's body type vs. trends!
ReplyDeleteLovin' this crisp, clean professional look, with major bling. I adore skinny jeans, but you're right, sometimes another style works better. I thrifted two pair of designer bootcut jeans this fall, and am almost ready to admit they're really my faves (but you're not supposed to tell your kids that, right? :)
