Where Did You Go?

Being a style blogger can be a fickle thing. It's a great little hobby and you can "meet" a ton of fun like-minded people, but it can be a total time-suck. And as simple as it is to start a blog nowadays, it is just as easy to let one languish. For every one blog that starts, I wonder how many existing blogs get left behind - the Internet must be littered with half-forgotten dot-blogspots.

I mean, I get it. Sometimes we just run out of free time, sometimes we run out of want-to, sometimes outside forces make us reprioritize. Just as there's not a thing wrong with blogging, there's nothing wrong with deciding to no longer keep a blog.

But as an active blogger who loves to read blogs, I can't help but to mourn some fave reads who are no longer updating. Some of the blogs of style-past that I miss?

Kelinda.KELINDA - Amy had a wicked sense of humor,  was a layering pro and always had a cute mani to boot. Amy was one of the bloggers I interacted with quite a bit and felt like we could have been hilarious real-life eating buds.

Ginger Girl - Pamela had fun style that was still office-appropriate, was not afraid to wear bright color and pattern, and she shared a love for J.Crew and Anthro.

Where the Lights are Bright - Spiffy had a clean, realistic sensibility about dressing, did great reviews, and I considered her my fit twin!

Anthroholic - Controversial choice probably considering how her blog ended, but she who shall not be named was one of the first style blogs I started following and though her style was different from mine, I enjoyed seeing her sweet girly looks.

Little Girl Big Closet - My fave Anthropologie-centric blog, Tara had a great eye for putting together colors and patterns, plus her outfit photos were gorgeous vignettes. Though she's no longer actively blogging, Tara has changed her blog layout to make it easier to review her past posts - thanks!

Are there some fave style blogs of yours that have long since gone but you wish would come back?

  1. Pamela (Ginger Girl) is still active on Twitter - she probably still reads your blog, she reads mine. We swapped tweets, messages etc. She just said she is too busy at the moment. Funnily enough I'm wearing the red polka dot dress today that she wore the black version of in her last post! For me it would be Sara at You, Me & Anthropologie. She disappeared almost a year ago now and never came back, one tweet a long long time ago to say she was still here and planning an update. I haven't checked in months (I'll do it now) but don't think she has surfaced.

  4. Oh kelinda.KELINDA for sure is a missed blog. She was hilarious! It is funny how blogging goes in and out. I know that my own (personal, non-style) blogging habits ebbs and flows due to outside forces. I keep hoping Amy will magically appear! Maria from Infinite Whimsy was one of the first blogs I followed that is now defunct.

So all this means...PLEASE keep going:)

  5. I love this outfit, you look perfectly spring-y and uplifting post dst! There are a few blogs I miss, but I totally understand that people don't want to waste time if they're not enjoying it/ have better things to do.

  6. I also miss Ginger Girl and (sadly) Anthroholic. They were 2 of my first blog reads. I love that skirt! It looks great with the plaid top.

  7. OMG Can I just say first that this outfit is fantastic?! That skirt is so perfect and looks like something straight out of Betty Draper's closet <3 I envy you!

I've been going through my reader lately trying to get rid of defunct blogs and I must say I miss What Would a Nerd Wear most of all, mainly because she was around my age and in grad school at the same time I was. People's priorities change, so I can totally respect having to give up blogging. I know I too will probably have to make that decision someday.

  8. I hadn't read any of those blogs but it's definitely sad when someone doesn't continue blogging and it's one you loved! Those bow shoes are gorgeous!

  10. What Would A Nerd Wear and Academichic for me... those ladies got me into blogging in the first place! But at least their archives are still there.

  13. I'm so glad you wrote a post about this--I've been wondering whatever happened to Amy from Kelinda Kelinda! I miss her blog, too.

However, being the author of two now-defunct blogs (and the last one was rolled over into my current one), I understand the need for priorities. Sometimes I don't feel like blogging, or I don't have anything to say, or I think no one is actually reading (that was the main reason I shut down that first blog)--but mostly, it does take up time!

But having stuck it out for the last few years, I've gotten attached to some blogs and find myself actually worrying about some that I don't see from time to time. Even though I've never met any of them in person, it's easy to feel like you could just as easily be friends in real life, considering how much you see and know about their lives and/or personalities.

  14. I AM STILL ALIVE! And I still read blogs, tweet, and am on Instagram. I just feel awful that I stopped blogging w/o proper notice. I really think about posting again but then by the time I get home from work am just exhausted. Lisa, you're a great example of a style blogger with thoughtful, good content. I am leaving the door open to coming back, really, I am. I simply cannot tell you how much it means to even see you mention me here. It makes me remember just how darn special all you blogging and blog reading ladies are.

  16. Lisa, great use of colors. Love this pattern mixing and just in time for the upcoming Spring! This is a topic I sometimes think about. It's funny how attached we can become to one another here in this blogging community, thinking that we know what the others are doing and what they're up to due to the content being shared. But I totally get it. Life gets in the way, sometimes there's a dry spell of thoughtful content, and priorities shift. I'm in that gray area now where I still enjoy blogging but at times feel silly always talking about fashion and style (though it's not silly in and of itself!). I'm glad you're still around and make an effort to post on the regular, and as for the ones who no longer blog, it's great accessing their archives :)

  17. Ooh I love your bold, pretty pattern mix! I totally agree--it's SO much easier to let a blog go (or just get really lazy about posting...guilty!) than to keep it up. I just have to look at my reader to see once-loved blogs that have now disappeared! But I completely understand how it happens...life gets crazy!

  20. I love that outfit. It is print mixing perfections. I miss Anthro Closet Chaos. She has not updated in about a year. I really loved her style and the way she put things together. I worry my sewing blog will end up going away, too. Many sewing blogs only get updated once every week or two because of the time is takes to make a garment. I just noticed it has been about two weeks since I updated mine. I have sewn a couple of items, but just have not taken the time to update. I hope your blog never goes away. It is a favorite of mine.

  21. I miss Anjali of Goldenmeans and Pamela from Ginger Girl! (Good to see you're still around, Pamela! It's completely understandable that real life has to take precedence. But I still miss you!) Anjali and I have very similar taste, and Pamela's fresh, bright choices were so inspiring. Anyway, I love how you added in the bright pops of red in your shoes and belt-- the textural contrast of the patent leather accessories and the matte shirt and skirt is great!

I'm not sure whether I would have started blogging in the first place if I really understood just how much time is required to take photos, write content, and build relationships by visiting other blogs! 25. Hey Lisa I have been following your blog since fall of 2012 and love your style and random convo. However this one hit a little closer to home for me because just like the others my blog has gone neglected. I started the blog in January of last year with all hopes to keep it moving, but fell short in the last few months with my post. Seriously this is a job by itself. I am not interested in pay but it takes time to come up with the concepts, outfit ideas and take the pics. I plan to become a better steward over my talents and get back in the saddle again. Then make sure I also buy a camera and stand, because it is hard to get others to keep taking your pics...LOL
P.S. I always look to you for style inspiration, keep it up.

    2. I totally agree! Honestly I get such a sense of joy when I see a blog update in my feed. I follow people whose clothes I love but also whose lives I am interested in and who have a fun "voice". Sometimes when I'm bored or having a rough day and need a little break I scroll back through (like today) and see what's going on in the comments and get more of that voice. It's kind of like a TV show or favorite magazine I guess.
