Green and Blue with Stripes
Today's blog post features one of my fave silhouettes - a fitted top with a flippy full skirt. Granted fitted tops tend to make me feel a bit self-conscious, as I am built pretty straight up and down with big shoulders for my size, and more fitted styles sometimes emphasize that. So the fullish skirt is a nice way for me to fake a waist and remembering to stand up straighter helps me from resembling Quasi's hulking cousin - though to this day my mom is still trying to correct my perpetual slouching! I know, I know, we're all our own worst critics, right?

That African cotton skirt is amazing. My dad brought me some African cotton back from Nigeria last winter and I am still deciding on what to make with the yardage. I love this...def. inspired!
ReplyDeleteI don't see you as a sloucher, lol. :)
African print fabric is beautiful! I think you'd look fab in a beautiful full midi skirt in a bold fun print!
DeleteLove the print on your skirt! :) Nice pattern mixing with the striped top too :)

DeleteI love your striped top. I have a million, yet every time I see one, it is like I have nothing and I need it!!
ReplyDeleteI am the worst at slouching. I need to get better and correcting it as well. Some days I remember...but than others, not so much.
Love the skirt pattern. Very fun.
I'm with you on the striped tees and slouching!

We are definitely our own worst critic. I happen to think you look very poised and gorgeous, and I never would describe you the way you do!! You look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!
DeleteCute skirt!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is gorgeous! I'm a sloucher too, I'm always trying to remember to stand and sit up straight.
ReplyDeleteI am the worst sitting by my desk working on the computer. My posture is terrible!
DeleteYep, waaay above my price range so I shall simply covet your skirt from afar.
ReplyDeleteGood to know slouching is not just reserved for slackers like me and that mothers who rage against slouching is not just reserved for my dear old mum.
Today's outfit reminds me of a few of my outfits from last week and pretty much confirms it: flippy skirts are the way to go for straight up and down chicks with broad shoulders like us! :D
If you look up "African print skirt" on Etsy, you'll see loads of options in all dif price ranges!
DeleteThis may be one of my favorite outfits of yours, ever! I love it Lisa!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!
DeleteGorgeous mix of patterns! Love the bright, patterned skirt!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is simply beautiful! I love the colors in it. And you have a great figure! We women are so hard on ourselves aren't we? Most of the time I find that others don't even notice the things that make us self-conscious ;)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, but it's a difficult thing to stop!
DeleteOoh I love this mix of patterns and the fun colors of your skirt. I'm always reminding myself not to slouch too, but it's so hard to remember to sit up and stand up straight!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that silhouette also. The print on that. Her is just gorgeous, what an amazing at etsy find!
ReplyDeleteI love combined with the striped T and I also love your jewelry, it makes for such a letter perfect outfit. Kisses,Elle

This is such a stunning statement skirt! You look perfect in it paired with the stripes. How do you find these etsy owners? I never shop on their because I have no idea where to start - it is way too overwhelming for me.

I usually have an idea of something, type a descriptor into Etsy and fall into the rabbit hole of options! It's a time killer but sometimes you find awesome stuff!
DeleteThat skirt is awesome....such a fun print!
ReplyDeletePrint mixing at it's finest! Gorgeous outfit Lisa. :)

I have always liked fitted tops with the full skirts as well. I really think it is the way to go, especially with the longer 50's style. I just ran into two skirts the other day in my closet that are knee length like the one you are wearing. One includes a colorful Tracy Feith for Target and I was wondering if they were past their prime for me. After seeing how you styled yours, I may have to get creative with mine.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day,
Stacey
I bet the Tracy Feith pieces still look up-to-date and fab on you!
DeleteVery nice combination of patterns, and your skirt is gorgeous! I also love your shoes...
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is so pretty, and it looks so good with the stripes!
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty outfit. I love a flippy skirt too. And Lisa! Really! You look like a fashion model with your perfect shoulders. Everyone wants broad shoulders - they make clothes drape better on the body. Throw'em back and strut on down the street! Yay! :)

Aw, thanks! Except pullover pieces and side zip dresses are the bane of my existence! I literally had to Hulk Hogan a dress off myself once because I couldn't get it off past my shoulders, grrrr!
DeleteI agree w/ Marcy...I read that most models have that body type. It's funny...I just posted on monday asking for suggestions on how to dress that body type....now I know where to look :) I love the outfit, especially the skirt. I checked out Zizi&Grace's website and their items seem pretty reasonable. Take care!
DeleteLove you lovely women! I am still laughing that you turned Hulk Hogan into a verb!! Oh my gosh - can't stop cracking up!
Deletexo,cynthia
This fab skirt reminds me of one I am trying to sew - I think i might try and wear it with another printed item like you have-
ReplyDeletethat skirt is FABULOUS! gorgeous girl!

ReplyDeleteHi Lovely,
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London, England. You've inspired me to get one of these skirts. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you and what length skirt did you go for?
I'm 5'2" and ordered the 20" long version - thanks!
