Reindeers in Vests

reindeers

Did you know that it wasn't until last winter that I got my first quilted vest ever?

See, I had a thing against quilted vests - the same kind of thing I have against sleeveless turtlenecks, short-sleeve wool coats, leg warmers, etc. Why leave extremities exposed for the sake of fashion? I mean, if it's cold, cover up, right?

But then I had one of those I-don't-know-if-I-really-want-it-but-it-seems-real-popular-so-I'm-going-to-just-get-it moments when I saw a sale popback for That herringbone vest last winter. Those moments usually end up in a big ole L moment for me, but this time I vested and didn't look back. I was toasty and wore that thing all over the place.

And this year when the quilted vest popped into the JC factory store, I bought two more. Because a girl's gotta have options, right, even when she's just throwing a vest on over a hoodie for a midnight run for marshmallows? (So I obviously no longer have a thing against quilted vests. But sleeveless turtlenecks? Someone's going to need to explain that one ...)

  1. You have just documented my venture into the sleeveless quilted vest. I also got the Sherpa-lined Crewcuts quilted vest for my sister - she's only a few years younger but a lot thinner - and after a few blank stares she tried it on, and is living in it this winter. I probably wasn't the only one to pick up on this because the size 14 kids' vest was the first to sell out.

  2. Love the way you paired the tee and the gingham button down. So cute!

  3. Super cute casual look.

What about wool shorts for winter? You left that one out. I suppose it would work in California, but here that is ludicrous.

  4. Triple cute! Just love the tee! If you don't mind me asking, what size did you get in the tee? The site says they run a little small and I want to be able to fit into after Christmas cookies!

    1. I know what you mean! I def sized up, I went with a M. The tee is 60% cotton, 40% poly, stretchy and super-soft.

  5. Many layers of clothes in winter are nice and allow to combine colours in different ways. I like your idea of a shirt with a short sleeve tshirt on!

  8. You look great! I SO miss layering button ups under sweaters & tees....5 more weeks to go! I've been on board with vests for a while now but I can never convince my mom why they're so practical. In some situations they're just so much easier than wearing a bulky coat! Although with our single digits lately I've wanted nothing but my warmest things wrapped around me! (It was 9 degrees on my way to work this a.m.!!)

    1. I think your mom needs a vest for the holiday this season. Then she'll understand ... ;o)

  9. I just purchased two quilted jackets! I love them. They seem to be popular this year. HAHA about the turtleneck tops. I don't get it either.

  13. Such a cute outfit, Lisa!! Love it! I am the same as you, I never would have considered wearing a vest until last winter - then I got the herringbone and the navy. Still have the tags on the navy one but the herringbone one has been a winner.

    Have a great weekend!

  15. Ha. I totally get you on vests and sleeveless turtlenecks. If it's cold enough that I want something around my neck, I don't want my arms exposed. Not sure I'll ever be a vest convert unless I were to take up skiing. It's funny, but for awhile there, it seemed like the comments section of most of my favorite blogs would get hijacked by people talking about the Excursion Vest and which store it was in. Gah!!! I wanted to shout. Stop with the Excursion Vest. Something about the name even bugged me. Guess it's one of those totally nonsensical things that annoy us sometimes. At least I know I'm not alone with vest skepticism.

    1. I'm sorry, Mary, but I am a vest convert now, at least the quilted outdoors vests, I've been living in mine! However, I refuse to hunt anything down and kind of don't get sweater vests at all ...

  17. I am with you on the sleeveless turtleneck thing. Why - I wonder?! It seems so impractical! I'd rather have my arms covered than my neck. Love the fair isle Christmas theme on the tee!

    1. I'm not a huge t-neck fan anyways, I always kind of feel like I'm strangling myself - but to kind of strangle myself AND have my arms be cold? No thanks ...

    2. Ha ha ha ha! I can't stop laughing! That's too funny, Lisa!! That is exactly how I feel - like I am being strangled. I am always grabbing at my neck when I wear them. The same with scarves. Oh boy o boy!

  20. Love the vest! Adorable with the reindeer!

I owned only one vest up until two weeks ago. I just purchased two more. I have spent all night styling them instead of cleaning. Uh oh!

I better go do those dishes. : (

    1. I wear them at home a lot because regardless of temperature, I'm pretty much cold all the time. They are an easy layer that keeps my arms free.

  30. The tee is just adorable! I wasn't too much into the quilted vest either but this season I bought 2. They actually make a lot of sense in CA weather where it's really not that cold but still you want something just a bit to keep you warm. At least that's what I tell myself as I justify my purchase :)
