Camo Meets Chiffon

fancy camo stripes

While I adore those fluffy full tulle skirts that I've seen all over the style blogosphere, it just doesn't seem like a practical piece to wear in real day-to-day life. To me, tulle skirts are party gear and just doesn't make sense as something you'd want to don for work or even out to lunch in - there's just so much fluffiness.

I know, what's this craziness with a person with a style blog talking about the "practicalities" of fashion ... But as my life seems to be lacking in fancy dress tea party invitations right now, this skirt is about as poufy ballerina as I think I can manage for a while.

If you're a tulle skirt devotee (more power to you, by the way) what do you don your fluffy frock to? Do you treat it like special occasion wear or do you throw caution to the wind and take it for spin just to go get coffee?

  3. I'd wear my tulle skirt more often if it didn't catch on everything. EVERYTHING.

    Very cool eclectic outfit.

    1. True - that's another thing that would bug me!

  4. I tried a tulle skirt and it looked absolutely ridiculous on me. Definitely too much poof! This chiffon skirt is so gorgeous and a more modern, sophisticated version of tulle!

  6. I agree, it would be really fun to play dress up and spin around my house in a tulle skirt but I really wouldn't ever have a reason to leave the house in it. I love this chiffon skirt as a really pretty alternative.

  7. Ha. Wearing clothes that are practical?! I will read blogs and think, "Oh! I love that. I could do that!" and than I go to target and find snot wiped on my shoulder from the baby...sooooo glamor, I am not. So I look from afar and wear my washable clothes for the time being.
I love the shoes. They are fantastic!

    1. Granted I pretty much change as soon as I get home - because as soon as I sit down at home, I immediately get dog hair all over my clothes.

  10. You know I love that mixed-pattern tee and all tjose pearl jewels. The skirt is truly lovely though and you have an outfit both edgy + girly, Pinning girl!

  11. So I bought the blue camo version of your tee because you wore this one and I must say, although it's proven its cost per wear value - it's so soft and comfy! - it's never made it beyond "wear around the house" stage. Perhaps if I paired it with a twirly skirt...?

And yes, I pretty much would wear my tulle skirt anywhere. It's the girly girl in me, repressed for so long, coming out in my I-don't-give-a-hoot old age. ;p

  13. I love this skirt and how you styled it! The perfect mix of girly and edgy. I have been wanting that Gap tee for a while now. I should just take the plunge and buy it. Then I just need to find the perfect girly skirt to pair it with!

    1. I think you have plenty of nice lady-like skirts that would be a nice contrast paired with stripes and camo!

  14. I think I would reserve a poofy skirt for a special occasion but not sure how comfortable I would feel in a tulle skirt....

  15. I would love to be a tulle skirt person. I really want a big tulle skirt and my heart skips a beat when I see one. But then my practical side kicks in and I realize I would hardly ever wear it so I don't buy it. Someday I will get one though.

    1. Me too - I fight the urge to get one because literally I would have nowhere to wear it to. But they look so fun and pretty!

  16. This is such a cute look! I love the contrast of the girly pearls and pink skirt with the camo. Love.

  17. I would wear my tulle skirt literally everywhere, because I loved it so much! I remember wearing it to Regent's park, and to a Hokkaido festival, of all things... it was bright, hot pink too! One has no shame, as the Queen would say... This outfit of yours is adorable - what is it about hot pink and camo? Cutest combo since, I dunno, stripes and florals?!

  19. I feel the exact same way about tulle skirt. It just seems silly to wear it to work, especially when I work in a really conservative office. I will be copying this outfit soon, I have a similar skirt and this top. Love it!!

    1. I agree - my office is fairly laidback but no one would go to work in shorts or a big poufy skirt or anything like that.

  20. Never thought to pair these 2 colors together but somehow, they work for you. No tulle skirts for me either but it's fun to play dress up once in a while. Enjoy your Monday!

  21. I love the tulle skirt, but I think it would be better suited for my 7 year old and for a wedding or something similar. I love the color of this skirt and you always put together unexpected colors and patterns that just work.

  22. It is a problem. I love fancy clothes, but where does one wear them? Especially when the pull of the whole world is to be as casual as possible!? No longer can you go to even a fancy restaurant and expect people to be dressed nicely. Not to church (even for a wedding!) or a play... I suppose you just have to own the fact that you will be dressed up and like it.
