Green and Blue with Stripes

ankara + stripes ankara + stripes

Today's blog post features one of my fave silhouettes - a fitted top with a flippy full skirt. Granted fitted tops tend to make me feel a bit self-conscious, as I am built pretty straight up and down with big shoulders for my size, and more fitted styles sometimes emphasize that. So the fullish skirt is a nice way for me to fake a waist and remembering to stand up straighter helps me from resembling Quasi's hulking cousin - though to this day my mom is still trying to correct my perpetual slouching! I know, I know, we're all our own worst critics, right?

  9. Yep, waaay above my price range so I shall simply covet your skirt from afar.

Good to know slouching is not just reserved for slackers like me and that mothers who rage against slouching is not just reserved for my dear old mum.

Today's outfit reminds me of a few of my outfits from last week and pretty much confirms it: flippy skirts are the way to go for straight up and down chicks with broad shoulders like us! :D

  12. That skirt is simply beautiful! I love the colors in it. And you have a great figure! We women are so hard on ourselves aren't we? Most of the time I find that others don't even notice the things that make us self-conscious ;)

  15. This is such a stunning statement skirt! You look perfect in it paired with the stripes. How do you find these etsy owners? I never shop on their because I have no idea where to start - it is way too overwhelming for me.

  17. I have always liked fitted tops with the full skirts as well. I really think it is the way to go, especially with the longer 50's style. I just ran into two skirts the other day in my closet that are knee length like the one you are wearing. One includes a colorful Tracy Feith for Target and I was wondering if they were past their prime for me. After seeing how you styled yours, I may have to get creative with mine.
    Have a great day,
    Stacey

  20. Pretty, pretty outfit. I love a flippy skirt too. And Lisa! Really! You look like a fashion model with your perfect shoulders. Everyone wants broad shoulders - they make clothes drape better on the body. Throw'em back and strut on down the street! Yay! :)

    1. Aw, thanks! Except pullover pieces and side zip dresses are the bane of my existence! I literally had to Hulk Hogan a dress off myself once because I couldn't get it off past my shoulders, grrrr!

    2. I agree w/ Marcy...I read that most models have that body type. It's funny...I just posted on monday asking for suggestions on how to dress that body type....now I know where to look :) I love the outfit, especially the skirt. I checked out Zizi&Grace's website and their items seem pretty reasonable. Take care!

  24. Hi Lovely,

Greetings from London, England. You've inspired me to get one of these skirts. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you and what length skirt did you go for?
