Sometimes I Wonder About Myself
We're going to have to file this one under "gross due to sheer ignorance" and part of me is wondering why I am even sharing this, but hey, if nothing else, I am always good for a chuckle or two.
So most of you know that a few weeks (probably months now) ago, I got my first heart-rate monitor so I can track how many calories I am burning. I got one of the nifty Polars with the wristwatch tracker and the elastic strap monitor that goes around your chest, and since I got it I pretty much have been using it every single day. Which is super duper cool, because that means I am working up a sweat for my health almost daily.
But about a week ago I did stop using the monitor because frankly, the elastic strap was getting mighty funkelicious. Thank me for being a profuse sweater.
And it took me until this past weekend to finally Google "how to clean heart monitor strap" and lo and behold, the magical mystery behind it all was "soap and water." You know, squirt some soap on it, run the strap under water and hang it to dry - boom! In fact, most people recommend washing the strap after every workout, or at minimum once a week.
Except if you're me. If you're me, then you can just wallow in your own ignorant swampy stank for weeks on end. The more you know, people. Happy Hump Day.

My husband wears the pants off his heart rate monitor and I always find it dangling from random places in the house, but I'm never really sure if it's sweat or soap that's drying on there. You've inspired me to ambush the offending accessory and do a little sneaky clean up on it.

Aw, I wish the BF would clean for me, hehe.
DeleteHahaha, well, it's just not the type of thing you normally think of! Like washing a belt, you don't do that! But at least the problem is solved and you can get back to your funk free workouts.
ReplyDeletechic on the cheap
But now I'm all freaked out about it, I wash it all the time now!
DeleteTake heart - you're working up a sweat, right? That's better than most. ;p
ReplyDeleteWell, I work out so I can eat, haha.
DeleteLol you'd wash your sports bra after each sweaty workout right?! You do make me chuckle Lisa but now you know how to clean it you're good to go!
ReplyDeleteI know - who knows what I'm not thinking sometimes!
DeleteLOL Thanks for letting me know this...I've never washed mine either, but I rarely wear it too.
ReplyDeleteCute dress : )

Awesome dress! Love the colors, pattern, and style. You look great!
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty hilarious about the strap. I've always wondered with those chest straps how well it would work around my large girls. Especially when I'm wearing the 3 sports bras I have to wear in order to keep them contained while exercising. I always think there's no way it would find my heart! Haha...any thoughts on that?
I put mine on under my sports bra - figure it helps keep the monitor snug as a bug. But I don't have to worry about any sort of containment with my partially non-existent girls. ;o)
DeleteLMFAO at swampy stank! Lisa you are hilarious. nowadays you can google everything. that dress is so pretty on you.

There was a period where I did seriously consider just buying another monitor. ;o)
DeleteLOVE the print of this dress...and that totally sounds like something I would do lol
ReplyDeleteAdorable dress. And hilarious account of what I would probably do myself! Love the share!

Funny Funny! Love stories like this. They make me feel not so alone 'cause I can see myself doing the same thing!

I have a neoprene knee sleeve that I wear that has become very stinky. I wonder if I can just wash it with soap and water! :)
ReplyDeleteYou probably could!
DeleteThat dress is absolute perfection. Love it. And your story definitely made me chuckle...especially "the more you know" at the end. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is so cute!
ReplyDeleteYes, the chest strap can get might stanky! I've had a couple HRMs now, and I saved all the chest straps so I can rotate among them. It works out nicely :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, sweet! One day I'll work myself to that point.
DeleteLOL, you are cracking me up, Lisa! Glad you got it fixed. I am so paranoid about smells of any kind. Unscented Febreze is a miracle worker.
ReplyDeleteThese flats are so cute, great outfit.

Hee hee! I think we all have those moments in life. Yay for simple solutions like soap and water! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that dress - great print and color!
I do the same with the workout gloves...they leather so I am always afraid to wash them. Good for you for using your heart rate monitor. BTW - super cute dress and love the subtle pattern mixing.

I should check out workout gloves. I tried this plank walking thing on the treadmill and got my palms all busted up!
DeleteLisa, I love that printed dress and your gorgeous shoes plus I love that bag. Most of all, however, I love that funny story that you told. That sounds like something I might do if I was working as hard as you. Great outfit, and keep up the good work!

P.s. so happy the internet exists! It is a costant source of unaspected answers!!
Hahaha.. That's me as well. I recognize this. Lovely dress Lisa. I have been looking at all tour posts, but only comment on this one.... Time.. Lacking it.

You are too funny. I see you noted that but it really is a good idea to rinse it after every work out. That way it lasts longer. Don't worry when you know better you do better. I saw this print on you on Instagram. I like the shoes you wore with it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! That is so something I would do. Well, except for the working out thing. ; ). But, yes, not knowing what to do with something... Hello soul sister!
