This dress.
Something about it just spoke to me. The cut out detailing. The flare of the skirt. The fluttery shoulders. The stitching on the seams. When it hit sale online, I said yes, please sight unseen.
OK, it is a tad long on me and I may look a wee bit wide some areas, but this dress just makes me feel all lady-like. Like when I walk I want to swish the skirt and shimmy my shoulders. I don't know, there's something about a longer flowy skirt that suddenly makes me want to act all dainty and get my chair pulled out for me, or the door held open (I usually barrel right in). And with the fluttery shoulders? All I need is a wave in my hair, some white gloves and red lips, and a younger single Ben Affleck, all suited a la Pearl Harbor, and I'm good.
Are there any pieces from your closet that make you feel immediately feminine?

That dress looks fab on you! I'm wearing an a-line dress today that would have been perfect back in the day. And it has pockets.
ReplyDeletePockets on dresses make everything better. ;o)
DeleteGorgeous dress! I feel like I usually know all Anthro's inventory, yet I've never seen this dress before. It's absolutely beautiful! I usually feel like a lady in fit and flare silhouettes, whether it would be a dress or a top and skirt combination. It also usually makes me inexplicably joyous.
ReplyDeleteI miss pieces from Anthro all the time - just glaze over it in-store or online, until I see a blogger wear something gorgeous and I feel silly for missing it!
DeleteThis is a beautiful dress and it looks great on you. Having the cinched waist shows how petite you are and the winged shoulders and flared skirt gives you an hour glass figure...very pretty and lady like. And yes, the detailing on the dress is amazing! I wonder if the designer's inspiration was something architectural...just lovely :)! I'm returning a visit from Lovely You Blog and now following you via bloglovin'!

Thanks, Natasha! I don't know much about Byron Lars so I'm not really aware of his inspirations, but I definitely will be keeping my eye out for more of his pieces now.
DeleteJust beautiful- and you wear it so well. This looks much better on a real person than it ever did online! Today I'm wearing a beautiful vintage summer dress that never really made it into my rotation and I have no idea why- it seems to fit perfectly now. I guess there's a slight benefit to gaining some weight if it means being more proportionate on top! I definitely feel like sashaying down the street. Shall we stroll together?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to take a stroll with you at some of your holiday sites - you always pick the most gorgeously scenic places to take time off.
DeleteThe detailing on that dress is just gorgeous! I love the vintage vibe of it!

Yes! This dress! You look so beautiful in it! I don't think you need to worry about the length at all, it totally suits you. Such a timeless classic! :)
ReplyDeleteI think last year's Mellora dress makes me more ladylike, that and the Shadeflower dress (which serves as my costume for act one in my play) really just make me move in a different way because of how the skirts are cut - weird but true...
I totally get it - when a skirt has a lot of movement and fits really well, it truly feels like it makes a difference in how we act and move.
DeleteI love that there are so many details on the dress but none of them are lost or overwhelmed! That to me is a work of art!
ReplyDeleteI played with my shoulder ruffles pretty much all day ...
DeleteThe details are absolutely gorgeous. I'm so glad you grabbed this dress, it's so lovely on you!

Lisa- have you ever considered writing a book or column about fashion, manner and the like? Your humor is just so funny yet down to earth. That dress and you fit like a glove dearie. cute, cute, cute.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. While my former college age wannabe writer self would be thrilled at that comment, I think my current living in reality self realizes that I can't make any money from writing. That's OK though, blogging is free! ;o)
DeleteWhat a cool dress! Love the laser cute detail!

Great dress! Anytime I put on heels and a dress or skirt that twirls I feel super feminine!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress! You look just stunning! I have a maxi skirt that just flows the right way...it always makes me feel like a lady :)
ReplyDelete"Ladylike" is the perfect word to describe this dress--it's so pretty on you!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think of Pearl Harbor, but now that you mention it, I can totally see it! A pretty (and well fitting) dress always makes me feel feminine :)
ReplyDeleteI just like thinking of Ben Affleck in "Pearl Harbor" haha.
DeleteVery pretty dress! Looks lovely on you :) xo
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so pretty on you! I think the cut is unexpected but so very feminine. You look like a vintage vixen! I think any dress I put on makes me feel like a lady :)

Love the shoes!
ReplyDeleteThis is very different from some of what you usually wear, and it looks fantastic on you. Maybe the longer length is a sign of impending autumn.
ReplyDeleteI am not dainty and girly, though I often wish I had that sort of look! But I do feel more feminine in a certain white cotton lace-trimmed Solitaire blouse, and (oddly enough) a squared-neck knit Margaret O'Leary dress.
I'm with you - though I've embraced wearing skirts and dresses, I still don't really feel like a dainty girl most of the time!
DeleteThe laser cuts on those Byron Lars dresses are gorgeous. Good job catching this one on sale!
ReplyDeleteI think wearing heels makes me feel ladylike. I rarely wear them anymore, so when I do, I have to remember how to walk and I hold myself taller, so it feels more feminine. :)
I agree, heels make me feel more ladylike - though if you take me into platform heel territory, suddenly I move more like a drunk trucker!
DeleteLisa great post by you, you each and every post is lovable you always be wear very unique and very trendy outfit.

My, oh my! I do respect those shoes!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI'm a longtime lurker and admirer of your fabulous outfits. I have an off topic question that I hope you won't mind answering. I think you style the Robert Noble blazers AMAZINGLY and I've been hoping to pick one up from eBay. Do the red and navy blazers you own have two adjustable straps/buckles in the back? Yours look very similar to what I see on eBay but I wanted to make sure :)
Thank you!
PS - While I'm at it, may I also ask if the Audrey Brooke bow pumps ran TTS for you, or if you needed to size up because of the pointy toe? Thank you so much again! You're really inspiring me to try some new combos here :)
DeleteHi Amanda Lee - thanks for your comments and questions! Yes, the Robert Noble blazers I have are the ones with the single button front and buckles on the sides. I actually got the buckles removed at the tailor as I found they were kind of bulky.
DeleteAs for the Audrey Brooke pumps, I got my usual shoe size and they fit fine. They do require some breaking in though because of the patent!
Hope this helps, thanks much!
Thank you SO much, Lisa! What a brilliant idea re: the buckles. I may have to try that out myself. Have a wonderful holiday weekend :)
DeleteI think the length is perfect, Lisa! So pretty! I get the same ladylike feeling in my Anthropologie Time Gone By Dress. Your pictures make me want to put it on right now!

ohh pretty!! i love this dress on you lisa! the lasercut detail is so unique and pretty!
ReplyDeleteit's funny that you mention that because i actually cannot wear that f21 lace dress as a dress. i've never been able too HAHA.. it's entirely too short on me.. le sigh.. so i forever have to wear it as a tunic/top haha. i was so envious of all the petite bloggers when that lace "dress" first debuted on everyone and their momma blog and was so envious i couldn't wear it as a dress LOLOLOL. sigh.. i guess thats what happens when you're 5'5 lol!
This is a great feminine look, very Pearl Harbor for sure. You look great!
