Here I am, freezing outside the Austrian National Library. It was rainy and in the mid-50s for most of the time
I was there - not complaining, just wish I brought warmer clothes!
(Wearing BR factory trench (retail), Kate Spade crossbody (sim)).

St. Stephen's Cathedral - too beautiful to miss inside and out. Plus it literally is located right smack dab in city center.
The wiener schnitzel, of course. / And for Austria's neighbors to the east, some traditional goulash with spätzle.
Whimsical wood clocks. / Owl sculptures on the main library for Vienna University of Technology.
Graben, around St. Stephen's Cathedral, is a fantastic pedestrians-only area that has a ton of shopping and cafes. Note-worthy on Graben is the Pestsäule, a beautiful baroque sculpture ... which happens to commemorate a terrible 17th century plaque epidemic.
My Viennese closet included spots (sim), some black and fluro boucle, a bejeweled collar, striped skirt, and a
utility vest (sim).
utility vest (sim).
Walking through Hofburg Palace. / A hint of the beautiful roses in Volksgarten.
You can't get away with not having dessert in Vienna. The more the merrier! / Afternoon tea, tortes and strudels at the Cafe Mozart. Almost no room for dinner after this richness. Almost.
The street food in Vienna - hot dogs and chow mein, seriously! / Not so Austrian, but delish pizza nonetheless.
"Eclectic" kiddy pool-beach decor at an otherwise dignified dinner establishment. / A guardian of Hofburg Palace.
View from my hotel room of the Danube River - we were under threat of flooding the whole week but fortunately the river crested just short the day before I left. / Cute Coke bottle - it says something along the lines of "share a Coca-Cola with your lady."
Last evening in Vienna - dinner at Holy-Moly! on a renovated boat done in "graffiti-hipster" motif (is that a term?) / It's white asparagus season in Europe - yum!
Apparently this is nolstagia for German and Austrian kids - Nestle Bum Bum bar. Thick red candy coating, vanilla(-ish) ice cream and then a stick of bubble gum in the middle. Been there, done that, is all I can say about it. / From the top-floor bar at the DO & CO hotel in city center ... was so not cool enough for that place!
What a fun trip!!! Thanks for sharing! =)

Well,I'm really glad you had a very good time.
This post was pure enjoyment for me and I got a bit nostalgic, because in another time and place ;) I used to go regularly to Vienna. You captured so well its atmosphere :)!
Loving the red pop of color in the first picture.Way to go sweety :)!
Welcome back and I wish you a good week...
XO
Lucky girl to have been able to visit Vienna regularly. I wish I had more time there and the weather had been more cooperative so I could have seen some of the country side and more of the palaces.
Deletei missed you!! it looks like such a great trip. vienna is beautiful. i find taking the metro really lets you discover a city and get a true sense of it's heartbeat! glad you had a wonderful time and welcome back! xo P
ReplyDeleteI have to admit though that I am usually a mess with more complex metro systems like the London Tube. Different zones? Peak and non-peak? Argh!
DeleteSo jealous! Good for you to take a trip! Sounds like you're having a time :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these photos! Vienna is one place that I need to visit.

Awesome! Thanks for the info - the shop was closed when I walked by but I had wondered why it was called Pinocchio. Italian, got it!

Vienna is such a cool city! From the way you're smiling it looks like you loved it! I went there to visit a friend last summer and had a blast. Great photos, but now you've given me the biggest craving ever for goulash soup, haha!
ReplyDeleteI think I got the idea of goulash mixed up with borscht, which doesn't sound too appealing to me, so this was the first time I tried it. Mm, stew!
DeleteI'd love to go to Vienna around Christmas time, I imagine it would look magical. I don't drink Coca Cola but they are selling bottles over here with names on the label so everyone is having fun trying to find theirs! I wonder if they are doing something similar in Austria hence the "lady" label.
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit some of the Christmas markets!
DeleteHow fun! This trip looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGinny
aww i heart vienna! looks like you had a fabulous time! your afternoon tea looks DELICIOUS! all those yummy cakes!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous!! It looks like you had an amazing time! I want to go on a nice long vacation now, ha ha

omg Vienna looks incredible! you did a great job documenting it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I also posted this week about our Vienna trip a few years ago! :) http://librarianforlifestyle.wordpress.com/2013/06/06/travel-flashback-vienna-winter-2009/
ReplyDeleteAwesome, gotta check it out!
DeleteThe only thing not appealing is that candy coated gum in the middle ice cream bar, but I want the rest of your trip! I hope you got over your cold, I don't want that part of it either.
ReplyDeleteCome over to my blog for a laugh, ha, speaking of traveling ... ;)
The gum was only slightly better than the gum that used to come in those Garbage Pail Kid cards (does anyone remember those?), which isn't saying much. Glad I tried it - I guess!
DeleteLooks like an awesome trip. Looove the trench & red bag. Trenches are just the chic-est. :)
ReplyDeleteOh man, all the sights and eats are gorgeous. I'm more than a tad jealous! I'm in the same boat with weather at the moment, it's no bueno. Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great photos!! This looks like SO much fun! Hugs from Cali! xx The Golden Girls
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Thanks for sharing. Did you have any Linzer or Dobos cake?
ReplyDeleteNo unfortunately I didn't get a chance to visit as many bakeries or cafes as I would have liked - and I only drive by the Hotel Sacher too. That's the thing with biz trips, too little time to do all the things I want, ha!
DeleteThese pictures are so wonderful, it looks like you had a great time (cold or not)! Now you have my craving that pizza... it looks beyond amazing :)
