Appreciative

Thanks for all your feedback regarding my post a few weeks ago about blog design. Unfortunately fate determined that I will continue to DIY my own layout for a little while longer instead of paying a professional to do it. Apparently I had forgotten all about having a car insurance payment coming up this month - and I completely detonated my phone earlier this week so I had to go slunking back to the Apple store (and by "detonated," I mean it now lives in a little baggy to keep all the wee pieces together. Yeah).

So life's not been a bunch of unicorns and fairies lately, but whose life is? So I gleaned an idea from one of IFB's recent posts and I want to give a shout out to all of you lovely ladies who stop by to visit my blog.

Thank YOU.

Thank you for your endless stylish inspiration, your humor, your openness in sharing your personal anecdotes. Thank you for taking time from your busy days to visit here, read my rambles and provide me with your commentary and sound advice. Thank you for lifting me up when my spirit is down. Thank you for making me know it is OK for me to like the things that I do - that though fashion and style blogging may seem a bit frivolous, it doesn't make it any less valid a hobby and form of expression. Thank you for giving me the confidence to wear what I want and to put together pieces I would have never considered before. Thank you for sticking around and staying with me and getting to "know" me, as it were, on this little electronic platform.

  1. Super cute outfit lisa! I know what you mean about design layout, I've always done mine but that's because I can't justify paying someone else to do it. There are a tonne of tutorials out there and freebies, so it can be learned :) I think my fab blog for tips is Pugly Pixel, she's the bomb.

  2. I love that dress! I ordered the same one but won't get my hands on it until next week. You make me want a gingham shirt, it looks so amazing with the classic stripes!

If I may ask, how does it fit for you and what size did you choose? I have a very straight figure (not skinny, just straight) and get sized out of Anthro's XS tops/dresses half the time, but in both directions--either the bust is too large or the waist is too small. I didn't want to risk the petite length, so I ordered XS regular and am hoping for the best.

    1. Hi there - I am pretty straight up and down too and got the XS reg. The fit is fine, but because there are no zippers, I have a bit of a problem getting the dress off - the empire waist seam is smaller than my apparent giant shoulders.

  3. The new blog design is super cute! I tried to do my own but I got too frustrated and I am going to be hiring someone to help me.

  6. I love your blog strictly for "getting to know you" :) Since becoming a mom, I haven't worn skirts, heels, or anything that can't be machine washed, so while I love seeing your outfits what really keeps your blog in my reader is your personality. I feel like I've gotten to "know" you and I just love reading your posts. You do a great job :)

Sorry to read about your phone and car...ugh.

But on a brighter note, thank YOU for taking the time to post, I always love reading what you have to say!

  9. I love your blog design! I'm wanting to redo mine. I think that a fresh look will give me some of my blogging mojo back:) But, a pro design is not in the budget for a while:( Your blog is one I check daily. I love your style but more importantly I think you're a rad chick and one of the few bloggers that I read that I feel like we could hang out, enjoy a meal and some cocktails!

  12. Thanks for your honesty. It is refreshing in a world of bland boring repetitive blogging fashion overload.

  13. 3 combos I adore (gingham + stripes; button down tied over dress; and casual + a bit more dressy) in 1 look! Very nice! Also, when I read "as dress" in the credits for your green gingham shirt, I thought you meant you wore this top AS A DRESS. My first thought was "brave girl," and my next was "I'll bet it was cute" :-)

  14. Such a great outfit! the dress is adorable! :)

  15. What a darling combination! I've been trying to resist buying that dress in Anthro and now you've make it look even lovelier.

  16. Your new blog design is so cute! I wouldn't even bother paying for one when you can do it yourself :)

Thank you for blogging...you have impeccable taste and you're an amazing writer!

  19. Ah, I didn't even realize you were contemplating changing the layout. I really only ever visit you for your amazing pics and engaging commentary; the layout is incidental. However, I do love the clean aesthetic of this one, so kudos! I'd been thinking of changing my theme template as well but haven't gotten around to it yet. Mine won't even hold a candle to yours, I bet. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you. :)

  23. You always look amazing! I only wish I had your knack for pattern mixing! So thank YOU! :) And I hear you about life - why is it any time we're about to do something big, something boring but important comes up (like car insurance)?! And my dog ate my iPhone a couple of weeks ago so I feel your pain - little pieces and all. And I didn't have insurance. :/

  24. I loooove this outfit! All of my favorite fashion bloggers are making it awfully hard for me to resist the striped dress trend. I don't usually do gingham either but this makes me want to run out and get a gingham shirt - I think the green and white is more subtle and fun than black and white.

Great job with the new layout!

  35. Your blog is great already! There are more important things in life like car insurance & phones :) I have the same pain - my car insurance is coming up and we just paid our taxes!!! Ugh..

Love this dress paired with the gingham top. I just bought a very similar dress from Banana Republic and will have to remember this look.

  36. I think the blog design looks great - I really appove of the polkadots! ;) Isn't it true that things only seem to break and go wrong when you're broke? My life has also been a bit of a dance on compost lately, so I hear ya! On the bright side, that gorgeous dress has got to be cheering you up, right? It looks so good on you, and I love the quirky pattern mixing! Hope things start looking up soon!

  40. Again .... very nice. Gosh, you know your way around clothes. I warn you... I am always honest, so if I don't like it, I will not say I do. Would you still like me to comment then? Or refrain from it? Not that it is going to happen I think. So far you struck 10 out of 10.

  45. We love this funky outfit! The daring combination of patterns is so bold - and works so well. We love the nude-pink shoes too. They really pull the outfit together in their understated but beautiful color. Another shoe that would be perfect for an outfit like this is Stuart Weitzman's Blog Platform Pump Adobe. The practical heel and easy-to-match color are perfect no matter the outfit or occasion.
