Early Green

green

Happy first Monday in March, ladies. Here's some recent randomness rolling around in my head -

We got a treadmill the other day and spent part of Saturday putting it together. So Sunday was Day 1 of my new No Excuses exercise routine. I am going to help to "pay off" the cost of the treadmill with calories burned! [Update: I ran today too! Yippee!]

It's been a few weeks, but I still feel like I'm >this< close to getting a cold and have been relentless in my Vitamin C consumption. Ack, will this slightly stuff nose and occasional throat tickle every run its course, or am I going to have to relent and just "let" myself get sick?

When did reality TV take over the History and Discovery channels? With shows like Pawn Stars and Gold Rush, I kind of regret making fun of the days of the more "special" Modern Marvels episodes - like "Leather," "Shovels," "Fire."

Cracker Barrel dumplings. That's all.

Recently I've started thinking about learning how to knit. Both my grandmother and mom used to knit, though my mom hadn't done it since I was little. Do any of you ladies knit? Can you recommend ways I should look into starting to learn?

This probably means that I live in a box, but I recently found the blog A Beautiful Mess. Wow those two sisters make me feel like a lazy uncreative loser! Ah to be in the business of Crafty.

What random in your head recently?

  1. This outfit would be perfect for St. Patty's day! We're wearing similar outfits today with our gingham shirts and crossbody bags, haha! My husband watches Gold Rush and I can't stand that show...there's always some problem with the equipment and they find barely any gold.

  2. Uh, hello there perfect March outfit! Now I want to get a St. Patrick's Day outfit ready! Green looks so gorgeous on you, it's totally your color. I watch Pawn Stars, not as much as I used to but I still will turn it on. I don't know why, maybe to watch Chumlee be an idiot?

  4. I read in Zest magazine yesterday that knitting is meant to be very good for stressed people as it uses both sides of the brain, something to do with coordination and using both hands at the same time. I'm not stressed and cannot knit but I'd love to be able to do something creative like that!

  5. You look darling. Those jeans are perfect, love how you classed them up with the shoes and bag.

I can't knit but I can crochet--I'm not sure if that means knitting is more complicated/harder, or if it's just because my grandmother taught me to crochet when I was small.

I've had the muck for over a week now. I hope you don't get it. Mine feels like it will never go away.

My Mom knits but I don't. She loves it and I sometimes get some nice scarves : )

  11. What a pretty green on you! I know how to knit, but it takes me forever to get anything done, so I usually give up. Way to go on getting a treadmill, we've been talking about doing the same. It. Is. Time.

  12. You look great in green - so ready for St Pattys! I used to knit when I was a kid and have no idea what 10 year old knitted. I recently pick it back up again and had to relearn. I used youtube to learn - it's amazing the things you find. I made a couple of scarves as gifts and still knitting a cable scarf for myself that's been a 1+ year project. Can't wait to hear how you like it.

Exercise is now just a step away. HaHaHa I hope you don't get sick. The only thing I know how to do is cross stitch. So no help there. Have a great week.

My most random thoughts these days is where can I get rubber alien toys? We need them as props for a play I'm in. So far, we've got 1960's and '70's LP's, a reproduction Chicago Cubs baseball hat, an American football and some toy astronauts that one of the other actors is painting to make them look more like Major Matt Masons. But the aliens elude us!!

    1. Bravo is def one of my go-to channels. However, my mind seems to think that it is just not quite right for the History Channel to have reality TV shows - I mean, I guess pawn shop people look at old stuff and that's historical, right ... Obviously I'm in the minority because I think the ratings for those shows are doing all right!

  33. I'm not a doctor, but let yourself get sick. Last year (spring semester) I told my body it wasn't allowed to get sick (it's so hard to bounce back after missing a few days of graduate courses). My body obeyed, but get this: I turned in my final paper of the semester and then a few days later, I discovered that I had a staph infection. It's still not clear how I got it, but my doctor said it's entirely possible that I forced my immune system to behave and then it finally just collapsed. I would take the few days of a fever compared to all I had to go through last spring (doctor visits, i&d's, allergic reaction, etc.). The mind is a powerful thing, but the body fights back. Wish I had a treadmill!

  34. heh...I am totally afraid to wear green in March now- everyone is so super sensitive to St. Patrick's day and always notices! In exchange, I wore a ton of greens through February...

Knitting is cool- it's nice to see how you can go from totally awkward to getting the hang of something relatively quickly. Though I decided to get back into knitting around Christmas and I've been working on a disastrously ambitious project ever since! Keep it simple and rewarding! :)

  37. I highly recommend learning to knit. Even when I'm not spending a lot of time knitting, I found the knowledge I gained makes me really appreciate a well-made knit (and to distinguish between quality of knits).

I learned from Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'N Bitch (http://www.amazon.com/Stitch-N-Bitch-Knitters-Handbook/dp/0761128182). Although some of the patterns are dated, the diagrams and explanations are really great when you're starting out. It's also useful to go to a local yarn store-- usually they have classes as well as open knitting times where a bunch of knitters get together to chat and help each other. Let us know what you end up doing!
