Pink and Green Leopard Spots

One thing that I've always enjoyed about winter is that it lets me slack off a bit on my "girlie duties."

IMG_3398

No longer needing to shave my legs daily? Not having to do weekly pedicures? Not having to worry about covering up or evening out random ridiculous tan lines? I can have those extra two cannolis or 12 since I’ll be well-covered from neck to knee?

So as much as I adore the coming of longer brighter days, the onset of Daylight Savings just means that all this time I’ve saved being a secret slob is going to come back and bite me.

IMG_3393  IMG_3396

My ridiculously pale legs were perfectly acceptable last week but now other gals are starting to break out their gams and theirs are magically smooth, well-muscled and have that perfect just a “hint of the sun” tone. It’s also going to be harder to hide behind tights and pants on my lazy shaving days when everyone else is resembling a Nair commercial. I’ve got to do some work on my toes just so I don’t have to feel like a Hobbit when I go in for my first pedi of the season ah, first world problems. And I’ve started running to get back into shape – or rather, more like run-walks. Or mostly walking with spurts of running. OK, OK, more like a walk with mild jogging when it is time to cross the street.

What do you need to do to "prepare" yourself for the onset of warmer weather (i.e., fewer clothes)?

  1. I can't believe that skirt is from F21! The green and pink color combo works so well for the spring weather :)

Since I live at the beach, soon I'll be in a bikini on a daily basis. That means doing lots more crunches and eating less crap!

  2. You are so cute to admit it; me too. And you look like a Nair commercial now! I still have all those things you said and then some to get there ...

  3. You crack me up Lisa. I literally LOLed at your "first world problems" comment. I love the pink and leopard! I will def have to make it out to the tanning salon (*slaps own wrist* I know) post haste. Yikes.

  4. Hahahah, I think there's a lot of us, including me, in that boat. I'm really happy that Spring and Summer are on the way, but dang, I have to lose those 5 pounds I put on during the winter!

  5. Oooh Lisa, we are outfit twins! Though I wore mine yesterday (since it's highly inappropriate for corporate America!).

Seriously though, I can deal with all kinds of prepping if only I could have Summer all year round..

  6. That's an awesome F21 find! I think these colors really suit you!
To be honest I feel the same way. I long for warmer days but they also mean putting a little more effort lol. Luckily getting a pup means exercising no matter what cause this little girlie has tons of energy! She'll get me in shape :)

  7. Weekly pedicures? Really? Am I the only slob who goes in once a month?

    1. Weekly at-home pedis, haha! I'm fine doing my own light colors on my toes but for some reason when it comes to polishing on red or pink or something, I revert to the coordination of a 5yo and paint all over my own toes! I'll go get my toes pro-done maybe once a month if that in the summer - weekly would be awesome, haha!

  8. Oh, I love that skirt! It's fantastic! And you're so funny Lisa. But ain't it all the truth - for the vast majority of us.

  9. You look so beautiful! And totally ditto on your sentiments. I wore a skirt last night to a birthday party and had to remember to shave, lotion, paint toes, blah blah blah...So many more things to do with warmer weather! I have to start making some nice fresh salads for dinner instead of my hearty, yet delish, soups and stews, to get rid of some winter bloat. Gah...Spring...you and a blessing and a curse.

  11. I'm loving this color palette with the hint of leopard!!
Funny you should bring up this topic because this morning I got all excited about the warmer weather, but that thought was immediately followed with crap, now I'll have to shave my legs, lol. It's the price we pay to wear those skirts and shorts sans tights.

    1. What gets me about shaving is that TO THIS DAY I always always miss spots on my knees. So I'll be sitting at my desk or something, and glance down and realize I've missed a spot (or twenty) on my legs! Classy ...

  12. I love this combo! So chic! Also? I am winter-white all year long, but when I'm 40 my skin will be lovely, so I try to keep that in mind as I slather on the SPF.

    1. My high school and college days are behind me, so that also means no more laying out with no protection. I am totally all about the self-tanner nowadays, and I don't even use real self-tanner, I use the lotion with a bit of self-tanner in it. So I won't be real bronze-y in the summer either, but I am hoping that I'll be "normal" colored, haha!

  13. HAHA Lisa! I think we all fall victim to those things. They're so easy to hide! But you look great. I love that leopard and green together. I have to get back on my game. It's important to exercise and take care of yourself. The summer forces you to do so.

  14. Ahh, I love discovering that it's not just me! Last week, I went to the launch of a landmine campaign for work where the idea was that you roll up the leg of your pants to raise awareness (www.lendyourleg.org) but I didn't know in advance. Imagine my horror when I realised my safely concealed (hairy and snakeskin) winter legs would suddenly be on show for all to see! If it wasn't such a good cause, I would've been out of there as fast as my unshaven legs would carry me.

    1. Hahaha! I went on a business trip once where I freaked myself out because the long plane ride got my skin so dry that my arms were flaking (glamorous, I know). Ever since that trip, I've been so into the lotioning!

But that is definitely true - in the winter, we've got to have advance warning for things like doctor's visits, or skirt shopping ...

  15. Lisa, you look fantastic-- I was wondering what size you wear in the J.Crew Jackie cardigan? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks! I'm kind of in between sizes in the jackie. The XS fits me in the body but the S fits me better in the shoulders and arms, as I am a bit broad-shouldered. I usually end up opting for the S since I normally wear the jackies open anyways, plus they're cotton, so I'm allowing for some shrinkage. Hope this helps!

  16. Green with leopard is a really cute combination, I saw it on other bloggers as well and eager to try it myself. Ha, ha and I am totally with you on guilty pleasures of the winter times- yes, it's great not to shave legs every second!:)

  22. Lisa you crack me up everytime! I understand ur pain with all the girly stuff for prep for the summer and spring days haha Down here we are slowly going to the lounge on the couch days - Autumn and winter! Soon I will be feeling like a slob who can't be bothered to get out of bed :) Loving the leopard!! and thanks again for letting me interview you!

  23. Something about the phrase "girlie duties" cracked me up. In my neck of the woods it's pretty warm most of the time so I don't get to shirk my "girlie duties" :(.

I like the green and pink combo. Very nice as per usual.

  24. My winter slack... not coloring my toes :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. First-I love this outfit, especially the skirt. I did pink and green today too!
I am with you in relation to those girlie duties. I can really relate to pale legs. I am naturally pale ALL year long, so just the thought of foregoing some hose to give the illusion of a tan is making me anxious!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've tried the nude hose thing before to get some more time for my legs to de-pale but it was terrible. I have the worst time finding the right nude color for my legs so I've given up. I usually end up looking like I'm wearing white house or have some ridiculous tan color on!

  26. Loving the colors! As much as I love colors, haven't gotten around to combining them the way you do, but I'm trying to get there, slowly:p

  27. ..... I hit the gym today. Ouch.

I'm envious (hehe) of people who can pull off green.

  28. eeh! What a great fresh combination- I love it! Pink and green is a gorgeous mix, but I love the leopard addition!

Definitely the legs are going to have to start getting some attention, but the biggest brain challenge is gonna be transferring from winter layers to getting rid of the winter layers underneath and considering...the bathing suit!

  31. i love this outfit green and pink are two of my absolute favorite combos and i'm completely obsessed with kelly green right now! love that you threw in a pop of leopard!

  32. What a dynamite combination of colors and prints!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Never thought of how pretty green paired with pink could be. Thanks for the inspiration!

Totally agree with you. Winter sometimes are unbearable but we gals could "hide" a lot of things under thick coats, long thick pants. For me, I could hide extra pounds under thick sweaters and save a lot of time painting toe nails and shaving.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "I can have those extra two cannolis or 12" Hahaha! I hear you there! During the winter, I'm always like, "I can totally have 2 slices of cake because I'll be hiding under a sweater for the next 3 months." But now that warmer weather is approaching? Nope, no can do.

I think your legs look wonderfully toned, for what it's worth! So that fast walking plus mild jogging across the street must be working! ;) I looove the pink, green, and leopard, too! If I had just heard someone mention that combination, I would've assumed that it would look way too preppy, but you prove me wrong. You look super classy and ladylike!

  35. Really like the deep green with the pink! :) I canʻt slack too much here, since itʻs not chilly enough, but youʻve reminded me that my toenails are in dire need of a pretty coat of polish ... :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh goodness, I can't believe you're even talking about your legs. You need to know that they are fantastic! I'd trade you legs any day!

I'm a run walker too. And I've been run walking like crazy these days because the thought of wearing a bikini terrifies me :)

    1. Oh girl I haven't worn a bikini in years - or any bathing suit for that matter! Ooh, talk about scared ... but maybe if I HAD to, that'll help motivate me to work on my food baby tummy!

  37. Lady, you're looking so adorable and sassy (in the leopard spots!). I only shaved my legs like once in my life, when I was a teenager. My mom scolded me and said "Asians don't need to shave their legs!" I always thought she was odd for thinking this, but it turns out all of my friends always think my legs are shaved. I guess my leg hair is just very invisible to most people....

I do, however, use some tanning lotion to add a slight bit of color :)

  39. i love these colors and the leopard together. your legs still look fabulous, but i hear ya in the laziness department. i still haven't shaved, but i plan on wearing skirts soon!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I hear ya! Last week I dutifully got out my gradual self-tanner...and it's a good thing, because weather here has been W-A-R-M!

I really like the proportions of the outfit - from your hair pinned, to the semi-high waist, to the length of the skirt, to the nude-ish heels!
