Bah Humbug Business Appropriate

Ah, Florida, there's nothing like driving down your palm tree-lined streets perusing amusements beyond my imaginings while the breeze whips through my hair giving my face a frozen teeth-chattering wind burn. This is the first time ever I've turned the heat on in my hotel room in Florida - and I come to see you a lot, ole buddy! What is up?! I spent last night under my covers in bed with the heat going - and my feet were still f-f-freezing!

Of course I find myself here ill-equipped in the attire department - one thin fleece jacket that does not work over my requisite business attire and my $10 side street "pashmina" is going to need to do double duty as both scarf and body wrap today!

See for yourself how I am dressed today - completely not what I had planned and it's boring, but this is my (gulp) weather warmest! And yes, for those of you living in the Midwest, I know you gals are just rolling your eyes at my chatter about 30 degree weather - but if only I had been smart enough to bring my warmer clothes!

Jacket: Anthropologie Sine Brief Meeting (similar here or long-sleeved here or BF-cut version here)
Pants: AT Loft grey herringbone trousers (similar online here or here)
Shoes: Sofft patent pumps (similar online here or mary jane here)

So what do I do to appease myself and my frost-bitten little soul? Be not so good and gift myself some early Christmas presents of course! Such as ...

So have you gals bought yourselves anything sweet for the holidays?

I'm sure you gals have noticed a few of these badges around our little fashion blogosphere lately:

The fabulous Tara B. from Little Girl Big Closet is hosting a fantastic feature very much in spirit of the season - she and some of our favorite blogettes are putting together fashionable vignettes in the style of the 12 Days of Christmas! I was completely surprised and flattered that I was asked to participate, so please keep an eye out for me! Her feature starts today - I can't wait to see what prettiness all the gals have put together to celebrate the holidays!

  1. Sorry to hear about the cold weather. I hate when I am not prepared while traveling!

  2. The shoes! They're gorgeous!
And I'm so excited that you're part of the 12 Days of Christmas Blogger Bonanza :)

  3. 30 ish in Florida? Fahrenheit? Crazy! You def. needed those early Christmas gifts, for braving the un-Florida-like-chills! My last GIFTS promo order from JC was my gift to myself. There's another 30% off promo now, but since it won't get to me before Christmas, I may as well wait a few days more to go to a B&M when I'm home next week.

  4. Oh noooo poor Lisa! Don't catch a cold, you wouldn't want to miss out on all the holiday fun! That being said, I love that you're not wearing a traditional suit to your business meeting. You look super cute!

  5. The last two years I was in Florida December/ January and it was REALLY COLD! I had to buy myself a wool coat!

  6. I used to live in So. Fl and for some reason when it got around the 50's I always thought it was SO COLD!!! I think it's the mind set! I hope it warms up there (I am sick of my FL friends complaining about the cold on FB) It's actually cold here! You look great! Stay warm!

  7. Just having moved from LA I totally get where your coming from. I feel the same way now that I'm in Portland and freezing my tail off! You look super cute today!

  8. Ohh... I would never think that it could be so cold there. In my imagination Florida is always sunny and warm... but good to know and be prepared ( maybe this year I`ll visit Fl) but maybe for me it will not be so frezeing (you know here at my city is 14F)
And I really like your outfit, as always, and especially that tweed skirt from previous post :)
    Stay warm. Monika

  9. I adorea ll your new early xmas presents. You deserve them for dealing with the cold weather!

  10. THE SHOES. I can't wait to see you wear them! And that jacket, too! AGH, so cute! And any weather is unbearable if you're unprepared for it, so I feel you in your 30-degree woes! I hope you manage to stay nice and warm today!

Also, I cannot WAIT to see what you come up with! What day are you??

  11. I am so impatient - I did indulge a little at anthro - 4 or 5 pairs of tights (can't wait to get the pointelle knit), Craftsman Capelet, Black long skirt and the striped shirt it was styled with on the website AND the scarf... oh my - seeing it in writing makes me realize I really did treat myself too nicely!!!! I can't wait to see your entry for the 12 Days of Christmas. The shoes you got yourself... AHHH-SUM! :0)

  12. I'm freezing here in the east coast and can't imagine what the midwest is going through. You look pretty warm for Florida weather though!

The plaid poncho is so pretty. Did you buy the skirt and shoes with it in mind? I think all three together would create a great outfit :)

  13. I hear ya! Not sure where in FL you are but I am feeling it in Tampa Bay. Trust me, those of us who live here also have a wardrobe that is ill prepared.

  14. Oooh, I can't wait to see you in Tara's feature! I just saw Maria's photo from today and this looks like so much fun!!!

  15. Brrrrrr - it's cold here too, and I just want to curl up under blankets and stay there! I can't wait to see how you wear those shoes, I love them, and need more ideas on what to pair them with!

  16. I heard about the cold FL temps on the news this morning! Crazy. We were under 10 degrees all day here today! Nothing is worse than being underprepared for cold weather though. You outfit is totally great though. I love the wide leg trousers.

  17. Aww Lisa, you look really sophisticated.
I've been really good lately and have not bought much from Anthro. But since you brought it up, i may sneak a look after i post this comment! Love those shoes you bought. They look darling.
can't wait to see your vignette. I was very flattered as well when Tara asked me. Tara is so sweet!

  18. I love the way you wore this jacket. I have it too and never thought to wear it business-y! You have inspired me.
I bought the Laced With Grace Dress at Anthro for myself this holiday season. It was my gift to myself.
I also used a gift certificate to buy the Sequin Front Sweatshirt at AT LOFT. I can't wait to get it!

  19. Don't let Florida fool you! I live outside of Ft. Lauderdale and it was 37 degrees this morning! I don't even remotely own anything that can cover that much cold, so I gave my kids a "snow day" and we all crawled back to bed!

  20. I appreciate you all commenting today, especially considering my snore of an outfit! Ah trade show attire ...

eek - I'm a terrible packer, I never seem to get it right!

Sweet Laundry - aw, thanks! Hope folks will like my pic!

Closet Crisis - I know, we're almost to the stage when it may be more worthwhile to wait for the post-Christmas sales!

Tara B - oh I ain't missing out on any holiday fun, though I am pretty much guaranteed to get a cold anyways. I am ALWAYS sick for at least a day after a biz trip - mix of actually having a cold and being exhausted! I don't know how road warriors do it!

curls-and-pearls - hey, any good excuse to go shopping ... ;o)

triciathomas - I have a few co-workers from south FL with me on this trip and I DON'T feel cold around them - they're walking around with their wool coats around INDOORS!

Jessica - my fam always make fun of me for being chicken about the cold whenever I go back to the NE - they're rolling around in tees and I am chattering away!

Mokkafiveocloc - I know, FL SHOULD be warm all the time! I feel for the folks who have flown down for play - braving all the outdoor activities in this windy whippy weather!

Valerie - I completely agree with your thinking! ;o)

amy kelinda - thanks, I'm a terrible packer as is and the cold weather has made me scramble and to try to "reassemble" my outfits to be warm and still appropriate!

Sherry Jarwin - yay, another craftsmanship fan! Did you also get the new color or the original yellow? And hey, it's OK to treat yourself once in a while!

Cee - I totally didn't buy it all with an outfit in mind but after you mentioning it, I am going to have to it the outfit a go when I get home. Hope for the capelet fits me like it should in my head!

carmen - it must be a huge weather shocker when the reg temps are supposed to be in the 70s!

Jan - I honestly was only obsessed with the black pair from Anthro but after seeing you in the green, I totally reconsidered. Then when Piperlime had a 20% off discount, well ...

Pamela - I am in the sunshine state rattling about the weather with no warm coat - and then I hear that it's like minus 20-something in Duluth! I AM a total chill chicken!

vintageglammz / Kelly - I am super-excited to see what everyone has pulled together for their pics, and am kind of nervous that mine will be up to par!

Ady - I love Anthro but find a lot of their pieces difficult to wear when it is biz attire. This is one of the few pieces I allowed myself to get at full price since I figured I could do it for work or play!

Lesa - I wish you could've given me a snow day too! ;o)

  21. You look great in the Brief Meeting blazer, even if it wasn't your intended outfit. Hope the weather warms up soon for you!

Love the olive heels that you picked up -- they are too cute with that wrap detail! I definitely did a number of personal shopping on Black Friday -- oh, where to begin?

I can't wait to see your interpretation for the 12 Days of Christmas feature -- I'm sure you'll look gorgeous as you always do : )

  22. Your outfit is super cute!! And you have my sympathy! This winter is awfully cold so far! I love the shoes you've bought!! Hah, I have my eye on waaay too many things, but I'm trying to be good and wait until after Christmas before shopping for myself! "trying" is the key word! ;) And I'll be watching for your 12 days of Christmas feature! Good luck on your trip and stay warm! :)

  23. Lisa,

The 12 Days of Christmas Blogger Bonanza sounds like the perfect amusement. In Calif it's 70 one day and 45 the next. But 30 in Florida sounds cold. Your outfit is far from boring dear Lisa. I love the rounded color and buttons on the Jacket. Love the Anthro cape. And there is nothing wrong with ordering yourself a Cheerful Holiday Outfit.

  24. Those green/brown shoes are adorbs. I think I need them. Ahhh, I can't wait to see the rest of the 12 days of Christmas Blogger Bonanza.

    Follow @UnraveldTreads on Twitter!

  25. I just saw your 12 days of Christmas vignette-- So pretty!! I love the illustration!

  26. Ooh, I just saw your vignette too!! Super cute!! I love it! :)

  27. Found you through Tara's blog! I loved your outfit and the illustration!

  28. Poor thing! Being cold is never fun...on the bright side, I really like your cold weather outfit. It's business appropriate Lisa, classic and refined. I love the cape you picked out...can't wait to see it on!

  29. Ooh, I love seeing your wishlist items lined up like that, mostly because I think all of those pieces would make a darn cute outfit paired together ;)

And i just wanted to say I loved your 3 French Hens interpretation on LGBC...I'm still smiling to myself over it that you put yourself and the hens in a Parisian market scene ;)

  30. I just saw your post of LGBC - fabulous photo!
