Warrior Weave Clovers

clover canyon

This is my first go trying one of the Clover Canyon scuba dresses and I am in pseudo-love. What's to love? The prints! And how the scuba knit kind of sucks everything in and gives you curves where there used to just be lumps. What's not-so-much? Well the price ... and how the scuba knit does feel weirdly wet-suit-stuck-to-your-skin-ish.

I was also a bit uncertain about the sizing since I heard they ran small - sometimes - and I wanted to this piece to be work-appropriate so I ordered a size M. I'm normally a size 2/2P/4P dependent on the brand so likely the S would have worked but I was concerned that it would have stuck to my curves more than I would have liked. So the M fits great and I don't think it's too va-va-voom for the office but the fabric tends to ride up a bit at the waist ... likely a problem I wouldn't have had if I had gone for the S and it was a big more figure-hugging.

So I'm not sure. Am I just trying to make a not-really-fit-for-a-business-casual-environment piece work or should I get the smaller size and relegate this piece to dinners out and days when I'm feeling extra confident and want to werk it? Or stop being so darn conservative and wear it proud ... #newdressproblems ...

  1. Yes, go for the smaller size as long as it's not uncomfortable! I think Clover Canyon scuba dresses are designed to fit close and the waist riding up would bother me. Can you order the smaller size while holding on to this one, for comparison?

    1. I guess I need to try the smaller size for comparison, though I'm concerned it may be a bit too form-fitting for my comfort to wear to work. I need to try it though, the prints from CC are too fab!

  2. I think the M looks perfect ! its a great dress indeed. I just picked up a neoprene fabric dress, but mine is kimono like, does not adhere to the body at all. I am guessing it will be a challenge to wear.

    1. I'm wondering if I should go for a flare-type skirt vs the body-con, maybe that'll make me feel less weird about it.

  5. For something more expensive, you should have a proper fit, try the S if it does the same you should return them both. You can keep a looser fit blazer on at work if you're worried. Personally the riding up at the waist would bother the heck out of me. But the dress does look pretty fab on you in the photos!

    1. I know what you mean and the riding up does bother me, especially since it was something I didn't notice when I was wearing it - which is probably even worse, haha. I only wore the dress around the house for a bit and for these photos and have returned it. I am going to try the size small and see if that works out for me. Thanks!

  6. The pattern of the dress is really stunning, and I think you just have to get used to that scuba suit feeling, but it doesn't show creases and it looks great on you. What's not to love?

    1. Thanks, Roxi. Those are the exact reasons why I thought it would be a great work dress. The scuba material definitely takes some getting used to - I keep wondering whether or not it'd feel really hot or if it would feel uncomfortably tight on me.
