More Sahara and Stripes

sahara + stripes

Trying out the Sahara jacket in a more in-between season styling (warm weather wear here), so I broke out the skinny jeans for the first time in a few months. OK, so it is still a wee bit too warm for layers and long lengths in the Southeast, but I've also realized that skinny jeans may not be in the cards for me this fall.

Working out consistently = not only broader shoulders (which I've mentioned before), but also larger butt and thighs. Which means I'm actually starting not to look completely out-of-place in workout gear woo hoo, but skin-tight denim is beginning to make me feel a bit sausage-in-casing like getting fit problems, I know.

But I've seen some stylish ladies rocking the stripes + leopard print + utility green look and I wanted to get it on it too. Planning to try this again soon with some ankle boots and maybe a darker wash pant (and if anyone has recs for greating-fitting denim for a gal with Some Thighs, please let me know!)

  1. Lovely layering! The short sleeved jacket is nice over the stripes :)

  2. Gift the American Eagle jeggings a try. They are nice and stretchy in the thigh. I prefer the high waisted dark wash.

  4. ugh- I've had huge thighs my entire life and have struggled greatly to find the right jean. The Limited has some great stretchy options, but IMO they're borderline jeggings (even though they're listed as jeans). I recently tried J. Crew Factory's straight and narrow and was pretty pleased with them for a more structured option. The only downside (for me, at least) is that the shorts are too short but the regulars are too long, so I'd have to get them hemmed, and I don't know how much that costs and if I want to spend that much. I'm also considering giving Gap jeans a shot - when they go on sale at least. If/when you find something, will you let me/us know?!

    1. I have not tried JCF denim yet but it sounds like I need to give their straight and narrow fit a try. I'm only 5'2" so maybe their shorts would actually work for me!

  5. As a runner and Body Pump addict, I have "athletic" thighs. I love the Paige Skyline Skinny. They fit my thighs and I don't have to alter the waist. I do have to have them hemmed but that's no big deal.

  6. Cute outfit. I think the key is a proper fitting skinny jean, you're by far not the largest person to wear them, and look awesome in them. Even the pair you are wearing, one size up would probably fit you better. Personally I think unless someone is rail thin (unlike myself) can/should she wear the super duper skinny fit, esp in a non-dark wash. I've seen even *average-sized* gals with the sausage casing-fit (as you call it) with too tight skinnies. Denim is one area where I definitely splurge, you need to go to Barneys or Bloomies or even Nordstrom rack and try on like 20 pairs and I guarantee you'll find an awesome skinny pair!

    1. Thanks, girl. Yeah, these poor jeans fit me a whole lot better last year (pre-active working out). These may be a wee bit too close-fitting for much wear this year!

    1. Thanks! I have one pair of matchsticks that fit me well - I don't know I haven't thought of getting more!

  8. YES! This is why I hate skinny jeans too! Strangle my runners calves & just don't look flattering on the thighs. I really do need to invest some time into finding some jeans that do work though. Anyway you look great. Hope the new house is working out ok too!

    1. Yes, the new house is lovely, though I'm not of a decorator! It's bigger than our last place though so there's a whole load more cleaning needed!

  9. The new JCREW Lookout highrise jeans are surprisingly flattering for runners legs but I size up in those from my normal denim size though. They're similar to the toothpick (which my kegs don't like) but fit so much better thru the leg. I also really, really like the Reid crop. Slim but not skinny and very stretchy (but they keep their shape). And are on sale right now too!

    1. I honestly haven't tried JC denim since they went away from the Hipslung and their own Bootcut fits, but I think I need to try them again since they had always been my fave pairs in the past. I'll check out the highrise, thanks!

  11. Try the Gap and Old Navy skinnies. I have soooo much junk in the trunk and I like ON "the dreamer" and "the sweetheart" cuts. Just don't buy anything "ultra skinny." The Target Meron Boyfriend jeans are more relaxed so if you have more muscle tone now they'd be comfortable and fit more like skinny jeans than boyfriend jeans.

    1. Yeah I don't need jeans I have to do some heavy shimmying to get into. I've tried the sweathearts, they are great, but the last pair I had used to stretch out too much during the day. I need to check them out again for some less expensive denim options.

  12. OMG - is that what it is?! Stupid working out - no wonder I had to get rid of half my stash of skinny jeans! Good thing I'm doing my 50 Dresses thing or I'd have been even more depressed than I already am. You look quite fit and fine in this ensemble. :)

  13. Girl, I feel your pain--I have broad shoulders AND full thighs/butt. I have a terrible time finding pants that fit, but my go-to for jeans are Loft's modern straight cut. I have like six pair in different washes/prints!

  14. I am so excited that you styled this again! Please do some more! I am loving this jacket but am on the fence about getting something like it since I have no idea how to style it!

    1. This jacket totally does not work for me if it's not belted, it looks way too big. But belted, I adore it!

  16. The stripes and leopard print really work. I think this look is so stylish and as long as the jeans are comfortable, they work fine.
This reminds me of a modern take on 80's Banana Republic, when the whole store was mostly safari themed.
    Thanks for sharing,

  18. If you're up for the splurge, try a pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans when they go on sale between Black Friday and Christmas. I find they fit curvier thighs really nicely.
