Sometimes I Wonder About Myself

geo tunic

We're going to have to file this one under "gross due to sheer ignorance" and part of me is wondering why I am even sharing this, but hey, if nothing else, I am always good for a chuckle or two.

So most of you know that a few weeks (probably months now) ago, I got my first heart-rate monitor so I can track how many calories I am burning. I got one of the nifty Polars with the wristwatch tracker and the elastic strap monitor that goes around your chest, and since I got it I pretty much have been using it every single day. Which is super duper cool, because that means I am working up a sweat for my health almost daily.

But about a week ago I did stop using the monitor because frankly, the elastic strap was getting mighty funkelicious. Thank me for being a profuse sweater.

And it took me until this past weekend to finally Google "how to clean heart monitor strap" and lo and behold, the magical mystery behind it all was "soap and water." You know, squirt some soap on it, run the strap under water and hang it to dry - boom! In fact, most people recommend washing the strap after every workout, or at minimum once a week.

Except if you're me. If you're me, then you can just wallow in your own ignorant swampy stank for weeks on end. The more you know, people. Happy Hump Day.

  1. My husband wears the pants off his heart rate monitor and I always find it dangling from random places in the house, but I'm never really sure if it's sweat or soap that's drying on there. You've inspired me to ambush the offending accessory and do a little sneaky clean up on it.

    Cheers!

  2. Hahaha, well, it's just not the type of thing you normally think of! Like washing a belt, you don't do that! But at least the problem is solved and you can get back to your funk free workouts.

  7. Awesome dress! Love the colors, pattern, and style. You look great!

That's pretty hilarious about the strap. I've always wondered with those chest straps how well it would work around my large girls. Especially when I'm wearing the 3 sports bras I have to wear in order to keep them contained while exercising. I always think there's no way it would find my heart! Haha...any thoughts on that?

    1. I put mine on under my sports bra - figure it helps keep the monitor snug as a bug. But I don't have to worry about any sort of containment with my partially non-existent girls. ;o)

  17. Yes, the chest strap can get might stanky! I've had a couple HRMs now, and I saved all the chest straps so I can rotate among them. It works out nicely :)

  18. LOL, you are cracking me up, Lisa! Glad you got it fixed. I am so paranoid about smells of any kind. Unscented Febreze is a miracle worker.

  20. I do the same with the workout gloves...they leather so I am always afraid to wash them. Good for you for using your heart rate monitor. BTW - super cute dress and love the subtle pattern mixing.

  25. You are too funny. I see you noted that but it really is a good idea to rinse it after every work out. That way it lasts longer. Don't worry when you know better you do better. I saw this print on you on Instagram. I like the shoes you wore with it.

  26. You are so funny! That is so something I would do. Well, except for the working out thing. ; ). But, yes, not knowing what to do with something... Hello soul sister!
