Currently ... Early January

navy floral

Some stuff that I'm currently loving:

The seemingly perpetual additional 40% off sale items at J.Crew. I did end up biting and got this bag. Then this necklace and striped tee. And then this bag just yesterday. So thanks, J.Crew, my closet is fuller now and I am done shopping for January. And probably February as well for good measure.

Uglies. Pretties. Specials. I apparently have a thing for YA sci-fi novels about dystopian post-apocalyptic nations (Hunger Games, Divergant), so this trilogy was right up my alley. Currently on book two. Some of the storyline is a little eyeball rolling, but once you realize what's going on, the concept is kind of fascinating.

This recent cold spell had given me a reason to work from home for a few days. Which may mean spending more time than necessary in my jammies, stuffing my face and cuddling with the pup between conference calls!

I did not know there was a thing called under-eye corrector until a few days again but now I've scored some and my mind is a bit blown. Blown as in I finally found something to actually cover the dark circle under my eyes. And blown as in why do I need a product to go under my concealer to make sure it actually conceals something? But in the spirit of keeping this post all love-y - yay for corrector!

Queso. Especially this recipe for a "revved up" version. Too easy to make and too good to eat. I made this for the first time on New Year's day, it was consumed quickly, and I already plan on doing it all over again this week. Like, tonight. (Edit: I actually made this for dinner last night. I used it as a dip but also ate it with a spoon #noregrets).

What are you currently loving?

I am loving like the 2 warm sweaters that I own from my move to MI from VA.
And the fun things I got at the anthro tag sale
And the fact that at -3 degrees this am, it feels warmer in my house than it did the last 2 days, which is insane.
If it is going to be this cold out, at least we have tons of snow, so it is so pretty out. Ugly, dead brown cold is so much worse than pretty, fluffy white snow cold.

  7. very cute outfit. Love your boots! I didn't know about undereye corrector until last year and that has pretty much changed my makeup routine. It makes such a huge difference. Doesn't matter how much I spent on high end concealer, it doesn't cover my dark circles. With the corrector, it helps so much with neutralizing the darkness and makes concealing a breeze.

  21. I know what you mean about the J.Crew sale, I couldn't believe my eyes when the handful of things I bought ended up being super, super cheap. Like, cheaper than H&M. I scored that cute boiled wool baseball cap on with the blue brim, on a total whim, and now it cheers me up on the way to and from my crappy job. :)

Love this outfit, by the way. It's a tad more relaxed than what I'm used to seeing from you, but I think it's cool. Love the bits of burgundy playing off each other!

  31. Hey There!
That trilogy sounds interesting...I wasn't a big fan of how the hunger books were written, but i love the concept. I would extend the queso category to all things made with sugar (except dark chocolate) and any BBQd meat. :) On a side note, that green outfit in the previous post is my absolute favorite! I hope you tweeted it to jcrew, because i could totally see it in their catalog!

    1. The third book of Hunger Games was so vastly different from the first two, it was a bit of a downer, IMO (though I know it needed to be, revolution and war are no joke) ... and honestly I only read the first two books of the Divergent trilogy because the reviews on the third book were so bad! I've heard good things about the Uglies trilogy, so I am going to keep chugging so far!

  36. I am intrigued by your comments on undereye corrector. I have quite deep dark undereye circles unaffected by sleep or stress -- I've had them all my life and have been using concealer since middle school. My questions about the corrector are a) does it just lighten the coloration under your eyes so as to help the concealer that goes on top to a more thorough job? and b) does it get cakey or increase the appearance of fine lines? This is my issue with any undereye product really -- I have fine lines under my eyes that of course are also increasing with age, and I would have some concern that adding another product (especially a thick one) under my eyes would produce a crepey look that might be more problematic than the darkness of the circles. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was told the corrector works like a primer to "even out" the undereye area, then the concealer goes on over it to really be able to conceal. I've only used the corrector (I got the Bobbi Brown kind) for a few days now, but it works really well to cover up my dark circles (I haven't found anything perfect yet though) - its creamy and I put it on with my finger so I find it blends really well and doesn't settle into the creases. The corrector is a bit thicker than the Bobbi Brown concealer I've been using, so I've actually just been putting on corrector and them some powder foundation over it to "set" it all. So far so good!

(I also got Make Up For Ever concealer and it REALLY covers up undereye dark circles, but it kind of settles into the fine lines, so I need to play around with application to see if I can get it to work. And I've tried the Bare Minerals powder concealer but that's really difficult to keep from creasing, IMO).

      Hope this helps!

      Delete
    2. Thanks -- that is quite helpful and something I might think about checking out. I use Dior concealer presently and am generally quite happy with it -- it does not settle into the fine lines, but it also isn't as potent somehow as the Prescriptives brand concealer I used years ago.

      Delete
    3. Update: I tried the Bobbi Brown corrector then concealer this morning and honestly didn't notice much of a different between just the correct and the corrector/concealer combo. I'm going to play a bit more, but just the corrector may be a winner for me ... at least until I find another better product, haha.

  42. I love that dress so much every time you wear it (okay, I just mean last time and this time) and click over to the LE site and stare at it in my shopping cart before deciding I don't need another dress. I am, however, bummed that your color is sold out and the new florals are pretty but not as pretty as yours. I looked to see if I could find the exact dress on ebay and a bunch of secondhand stores with no luck, so.... hint hint, if you want to get rid of yours :)

Love everything you purchased at J.Crew especially those Bags. That store is way too expensive for me though. And thanks for suggesting a new book for me. I'd love to read the series albeit in English not in Albanian. Sometimes things are lost in translation so I'd like to be able to read the original.
