These are a Few of My Favorite Things: 2013

Hey ladies! 2013 seems to have flitted by awful quickly in retrospect. Here's wishing for the best for everyone in 2014 - and a quick look back at some of my favorites from this past year:

1. Leopard pumps. Whoever said "leopard was a neutral" is right by my book.

houndstooth stripes

mint & camel

2. Scalloped dress. Kind of short, yes. But it's been an awful fun layering piece that doesn't wrinkle (bonus for the ironing-adverse)!

scalloped neon + scallops

3. Coated stone & gem stack necklaces. I've been living in these pieces.

4. Quilted vest (this year's version). Everywhere. Over everything.

casual layers

 5. Simple color pairings. When two solids can make a right.

berry purple + green

6. Figure-skimming silhouette. I'm a woman and sometimes I know it.

7. Red bow pumps. Bright red with a bow and a walkable heel? Yes, please.

8. Fuchsia. My go-to color of the year.

9. A basic tote (colorblocked version). Way too easy to load and grab for.

10. Rolled up skinny jeans. Pretty much the only way I can get away with wearing skinnies.

What have been your go-tos for 2013?

    1. I still want a DSLR for myself but then I keep thinking whether or not I'd actually make the time to hunt out great backgrounds ... it's way too easy to take some quick pics before work from home each day!

  13. You are so my style icon. You always look so polished and put together. I love all these looks. My favorites this year - skinny jeans, a nice pair of Frye boots or colorful flats, and long necklaces, sometimes layered with short ones. Oh, and super sparkly belts, which I put with basically every dress ever. :)

    1. Frye boots are an investment, but they do kind of go with everything and last forever ...

  15. Oh I love those red bow pumps and both outfits with the shoes. My favorite clothing item was my Citizens of Humanity Angie super flares! They are from 2011 and are finally starting to look worn out. But, the good news is that bell bottomed/flared jeans seem to be all over the place this year. yay!

    1. I wish I could look long and lanky in those super flare jeans - I tried a pair myself months and months ago but unfortunately I looked extra lumpy, haha. Not all styles are good for all body types.

  17. Fabulous choices! I can't even choose a favorite! They are all so fun and colorful. My go-tos are usually the basics, such as a simple brown leather tote and a skinny belt in that same shade, a pair of gold espadrilles for the summer and my black gold buckle booties during winter. I also turn to stripes whenever I'm having a hard time choosing an outfit.

    1. I have to match my browns too - for some reason different shades of brown for my shoes or bag or belt drive me nuts! ;o)

I wonder what my go-tos for 2013 were? I'd say jeans, definitely...haha. Would be interesting to look through the past year of photos and see what I kept going back to.

Hope you have a happy new year!

  26. Great topic. I feel like it's a nice recap of your signature style this year. I'm with you on embracing animal print as a neutral. Same thing with the bejeweled statement necklace. One thing you mentioned that I want to try experimenting more with in my own closet is pairing bold, solid colors. The looks you posted are so bright and fun without being flashy or clown-y. I'm going to have to try it out!

For me, a shift into more feminine dressing has definitely defined my 2013. I think high-waisted belts and statement necklaces being pretty standard in my look as well.

    Happy New Year!
