Randomness Monday

pleated stripes

As I find myself lacking in the cohesive thought department today, I'll instead "grace" you with a bunch of mental randomness:

The SE seems to have been hitting that magical "perfect summer temperature" setting of mid-80s Fahrenheit recently and I've been loving it. Shorts and tee - fine. Any kind of dress - yes, please. Cropped pants and light jacket - why not?

Is it just me, or has anyone else not really felt like shopping lately? Come on new arrivals, I dare you to tempt me with something!

In my book, no one makes smoothies as good as Keva Juice. I may be obsessed with the Lime Me smoothie.

Anyone have a rec for a good under-eye cream? Impending wrinkles are mentally freaking me out.

Finished book five of the Mortal Instruments series over the weekend. Book six doesn't come out until next spring. What-the-what?!

My pup's mantra seems to be "hurry and let me in so I can go out again!"

I've been two days so far on cutting back on carbs and eating more whole foods. And I'm sorry to say that I'm still hungry.

What's random in your world recently?

  1. Hey, no eye wrinkles from here, lol. You look great!

(I do use Arbonne's eye cream to some success, I choose which one based on the season, since my skin gets wicked oily in summer).

I think shopping is hard when the looks are derivative, especially when the derivative doesn't feel special. So much of J. Crew is just blah since we have seen it before. That said, I wouldn't mind another Tartine satchel in the pebbled leather.

I also have a ridiculous number of Boden fall items coming to me, so I have to say no to almost any shopping for the next few months. You take a few pretty women's clothing and add it to a bunch of kids' and baby clothing, and all of a sudden, entire clothing budget destroyed. LOL.

    1. The grey tartine satchel is gorge, but I would wait for sale for that, since it is such a fall/winter bag to me.

Boden has such pretty pieces out for fall, I am planning to snag a few things myself.

  2. I am always in the mood for shopping but this time of year is weird since they are trying to get rid of the summer clothes but don't quite have the fall clothes in just yet.

  3. We recently fell into that fall-ish weather lately too and as a self professed summer girl, I'm kind of into it. I also like your stripes today Lisa!

  4. YES for the perfect weather that has been happening!

Also, I am so burned out by the seemingly bland, look alike stuff that is in stores right now. I feel like it's the summer rejects but the fall good stuff hasn't come out yet.

  5. Your best defense against those wrinkles is sunscreen every day, even around your eyes, and then pretty much any eye cream that has good moisture will do for night. Really. Right now I am using an H20+ one that I found at Marshalls for cheap, and it is really nice. Unless you want to go hardcore with retinol, and personally I think you're too young for that, then sunscreen, moisturize, repeat. :D

The La roche posay supe 50 mineral tinted ultra light sunscreen fluid is glorious for the face. It is pricey but worth it! Sometimes it goes on super sale at CVS... I'm talking 40% off or so. I grab it then!

Oh, and I am so with you on not feeling like shopping lately. The only thing I find myself browsing for is activewear. How sad is that!?

    1. Thanks for the rec!

I've tried retinol a few times and all it seems to do is burn my skin and make it dry and scaly. Even application once a week seems too harsh for me, which kind of sucks, because I know it is super effective.

  7. Send some of your weather my way please!

I want to shop, but I'm done with my monthly budget. And I'd really like one of those cute tassel necklaces but no idea where to find one.

I am getting antsy and want to travel again. Boy, I wish I could win the lotto and do that as a full time job..

    Loving the outfit Lisa!

    And I'm hungry. ;)

  8. I LOVE your bag.

Three things that help me with hunger, for whatever it's worth (maybe not much?):

    1. Eat a nice ripe avocado, sprinkled with sea salt.
    2. Pop some non-GMO popcorn using my microwave popcorn maker: you get a whole grain with no fat. Again with the sea salt.
    3. Make a frozen fruit, almond, and hemp seed smoothie in the vitamix--a vitamix is expensive, but I find I'm using mine twice a day, so it should amortize eventually.

Most of us who enjoy your blog share the same frustrations and concerns about eating, so I hope you'll keep sharing details of your journey!

    1. I love avocados - I just bought a couple today! And I have a vitamix but I've yet to make a successful smoothie - call me lazy and incompetent to follow smoothie recipes!

  10. I haven't been much in the mood for clothes shopping lately, but I have been wanting new shoes like crazy. I also really love the blue and stripes together! I'm okay with this weather. And I'm sort of dreading going back to school/work.

  13. Summer was never a shopping season for me since I live in the same pair of shorts and the same tees for three months. Being in New Haven and working this summer threw me for a loop and I've been picking up pieces here and there to supplement what I packed, but I fear these will become disposable clothing in my real world. :(

Bring on fall fashion, I say!

  14. Love this look, particularly the croc bag and bright belt. The only thing I'm excited for in fall is boots. Boots with everything I say!

  17. I am constantly searching for the best eye cream. Right now, I'm using the Bobbi Brown hydrating eye cream which is pretty good. Also Kiehl's midnight eye recovery is also good.

  20. Eye cream! I use this stuff from The Sanctuary called Lift and Brighten Eye Complex, I have a feeling it's only available in the UK though... Don't want to put a link here, doesn't really seem appropriate, but I can email you a link if you want? :)

Our dog used to do exactly what yours is doing! Too funny. I think in his ideal world, you'd be out in the garden with him? Or is it a her? It's like fresh air vs loneliness, eternal doggie dilemma, eh?

Oh and if you don't enjoy Infernal Devices I shall have to eat my hat! And I rather like my hat, so yeah, I really hope you'll like it. At least the whole series is done so you can devour it all in the one gulp!

    1. My pup (a she, but total tomboy) seems to need to know where her people are at all times - so she wants to go out but then she needs to check that her people are still around, so I guess she'd be happiest if I was out frolicking with her.

And I just bought the first Infernal Devices book - I'm excited!

  26. I agree it's not the best shopping time of the year. Still to hot to think about fall and the stores are just slashing prices to get rid of summer stuff. I noticed that I am shopping more in my closet as I should.

We don't have any Keva Juice that I know of in Southern CA but I do make a green smoothie every morning. I can't do Jamba Juice now, they are just way too sweet for me.

  30. Fun random tidbits! The weather here has been gorgeous as well - I've now realized what we have been missing out on all these humid-filled summers. Fall trends should be hitting stores this coming month so you'll have a lot to shop through soon!

  31. First of all I love this combo! I loooove that J.Crew Factory tee but I don't have that color..jealous! Plus I'm starting to not be able to wear most of my regular tees. Having to switch over to the longer maternity ones is making me so sad!

We had perfect low-mid 80s this weekend & yesterday. It was GLORIOUS! 85 never felt so cool! But we're back in the mid-90s today & I'm so sad about it.

Talk about pup problems...Copa has a habit of wanting to go out after she eats even though she doesn't really have to go. Lately she's been begging to go out after WE eat! What's up with that?!

I ordered way too much from the Boden Autumn preview for my daughter and myself (all of which is dribbling in)and must be paid for!!! As for eye cream, I love anything Shiseido (either at Sephora or their own website, which has more of their offerings)and Guerlain (but I do prefer Shiseido).
