My honey and I have been gently considering the possible idea of potentially moving lately. So of course at the mere almost-whisper of "new home" my eyes come aglow with the notion of Potential. Though there is nothing wrong with the place we're at right now - and we're actually pretty content, save for a yard for the pup - my brain can't help but to start mentally salivating at the idea of a maybe-almost new place.

Because, yes, I am totally one of those nosy-ass people who wants to know what your place looks like. I want to see what wall colors you've chosen, how you decorate your living spaces, how neat your closet is, what kind of beverages you've got in your frig. And though I've not got a single decorative bone in my body, I have enough of a big mouth to make a comment about something I do (or don't) like in someone else's space.

purple + green  purple + green

So I can't help but to love looking at new homes. And trying to imagine myself in some new spaces - can I "survive" in the big wide open with a log cabin, am I cool enough for ultra-modern loft living, can I keep up with the repairs needed for a genuine Victorian.

Of course there's also the Wish List. The few minutes of "throw reality and money out the window" while you jot down everything you would want in a new house. My recently upgraded mental list consists of: walk-in (and I mean it) master closet, room enough for two home offices and a guest bedroom, generous fenced-in yard for pup, stainless steel appliances, crown molding throughout, central heat and air, two car garage at least, wrap-around porch, French doors from the dining room, country enough for wide open spaces, but not too in-the-country, if you know what I mean.

What are some of your can't-live-withouts when it comes to finding a new place? What are some of your biggest considerations?

  1. Oh my goodness, I love this outfit! The green and purple looks so pretty together. I'm regretting not getting the jardin skirt last year now! So pretty.

  2. Patrick and I are planning on buying a home this year and so I can COMPLETELY relate! I can't wait! Except the actual moving part. Yuck. Great green and blue today Lisa!

  3. Gorgeous outfit, Lisa! Purple and green compliment each other so well :)

  4. How exciting! I love our home now - we bought it five years ago and it's been the perfect "starter home" for our little family, but a yard for our pup is definitely on the wishlist for our next space.

    Love this look, too!

  5. Oh man, if I have one complaint about our current home it is the lack of master bedroom closet space. Next house, FULL AMAZING walk in closet. I bet I could keep my room 90% cleaner if I had some dang space to put the stuff in... and there is NO plans for a "next" house... but here's to wishful thinking! :)

    1. I definitely got spoiled when I moved out of NYC, because suddenly all these newer more suburban places have these huge closets and tons of storage! I'd be at a loss if we moved to a bigger city or got an older home - first world problems, right!

  6. I love the green sweater. Right now we have a house, but I'd love to move into a condo so I don't have to do yard work.

  7. so we may be jackie twins? ;)

i've been looking at houses too, but alas DH isn't ready to move out to the suburbs yet. it will definitely need to have some sort of yard. and a dishwasher. i miss a dishwasher..

  8. LOVE the color combo on your outfit today. Your shoes are awesome, really TDF. The trench adds just enough neutral and you look so chic! Ahh the new home bug has bitten. Well have fun with it. Y'all know your limits and will you use good judgement. I totally get what you mean about more room is needed for the fur baby. When we did have a house and dog, our yard really was not big enough for him and I always felt bad about it.

    1. I always feel kind of bad when my pup wants to go out onto our balcony to lay down and sun herself - I can't help thinking how much more content she'd be with a yard!

  9. I also love looking at new homes and imagining myself into them. It's not likely to happen as we bought our home near the top of the real estate market bubble and while we're not "underwater," we're certainly way under the value we bought the home for, darn it. So it will be a while before we're able to upgrade into a new place. Doesn't stop me from watching HGTV every so often to watch other people shop for new homes. :)

You look great in this outfit - love it!

  10. i love this outfit - the colours together are brilliant!

we got an older home when we bought our house, and it never occurred to me how much i need storage space whether closets, or shelves in a kitchen. that's one key element that an older and wiser me would look for in any home.

  11. hi Lisa! I am really enjoying your blog/site. You make me feel right at home. And ...speaking of home. We wanted a three car garage. Didn't get it. We wanted an 'on-suite' bathroom. Didn't get it. But the rest of this home is soooo what we wanted. Good luck in your hunting. Be reasonable and practical and WORD OF CAUTION: Don't fall in love with your new home. You'll end up pushing yourself into something you should NOT get. Make sense? Just be pleasantly pleased and work around the rest of the wants.

I love your outfit today. I do. I saw "Brooke at What 2 Wear" and she said to wear a blazer over the shoulders. Yes, I am going to do that soon. In fact I could have done that today.

    :D

    1. Totally get it - looking at homes online, it is so easy to fall in love with places that are totally move-in ready and have every single thing I've ever wanted - and that are sooooooooo out of my price range. Not going there!

  12. Well I'm moving in July 10 hours away to start school and finding a place to live from far away is wrecking me. I am taking our two dogs with me, so what I really want is like a little 2 bedroom house with a fenced in yard where I can study in piece and have it be girly without being PINKPURPLEFRILLYSTUFF. That, and AC are like my wish list things. I really don't want to live in an apartment :(

    1. One cool thing about having your own place is being able to do with it whatever you want. Too bad when I lived alone I realize that I couldn't decorate worth a darn, haha!

  13. What a shame you have been hiding those legs BB. They are so pretty. I adore this outfit. Would like it myself (very much actually), including the earrings AND the shoes.
As far as houses are concerned... we rented a house with 4 floors and only used 2. So we decided to buy a small house with a ground floor and 1 upstairs (I live in Holland, small country, lots of people, so houses are expensive). We said we don't want a big house based on both our salaries as you never know what life will throw at you. And we are still glad we made that choice.
We did however spash out in decorating the house. If you want a peak (...) go to my blog and search for "colourful livingroom" and "garden".

    2. Don't get me wrong... I love bigger and I would love to own a bigger house. Just not at those costs. Economy is going down and lots of people get into trouble. We don't. And also... because we have little overhead, I have more money to spend on clothes and shoes. Just not enought room to hang them haha.

  14. Beautiful - I have to ask... do you have your garments tailored ? All of your JCrew pieces look like they were made for you !
Oh and home wise, I have to "click" with the place, needs to be in the city LOCATION is a must and space. Need space :)

    1. Aw, thanks! Actually I am a cheap-o and usually will only get things hemmed, but not really do any other kind of tailoring. I appreciate that JC has a wide variety of sizing though, so I can find something that suits me well.

  15. Considering my husband and I live in a shoebox of an apartment, we don't really seem to have many can't-live-withouts! ;) The only thing would be public transport, we could *not* live too far away from a tube (i.e. metro) or bus stop since we don't have a car. We do look forward to having a place with a big kitchen someday!

I do like this outfit a lot by the way! Such a fun colour combination, nice and bright to liven up the grey winter months! :)

Good luck with the house-hunting. Do you guys own now & looking for something new? Or are you renting & are looking to rent another (or buy for the first time)? Just curious. We've been renting the same 2 bed/2 bath apartment for years so I haven't thought about what I'd really want in a space in AGES.
