A Little Lately

The little things in my life lately ...

Thankful that my fam and friends in NY have been lucky thus far with Sandy and are safe, dry and warm, short of being a little cabin-feverish.

My pup doesn't seem to grow a winter coat in and is nearly always cold. There are little "nests" we put together for her pretty much in every room at home so she can snuggle down. And for some reason, there aren't a lot of doggie sweaters out there for 50 pounders! Hm, maybe we just baby her too much ...

The churros at Costco are a delicious revelation. And the berry smoothie.

I broke out the fuzzy shearling slippers already. And the BIG down comforter for the bed. And kiss the air conditioner goodbye for the rest of the year. Though this sweater I'm wearing? Still a wee bit too warm for this sweater ...

Realizing it is painfully tedious / near impossible to try to remove a gel manicure by yourself at home.

I'm heading to see the fam in NY in a few weeks and I couldn't be more excited. Eating is one of my fave activities regardless of where I go and NY certainly has no shortage of new eateries opening up, so it's impossible for me to ever keep up. Do you guys have any fave foodie loves in NYC that you can recommend?

Reading the Wall Street Diet. Lots of really good tips for the impatient, time-crunched, workout-adverse. But really big expectations that I just have all this willpower to stop eating. Like magically I'll just start eating less and be able to go to places like McDonald's and order just a plain hamburger and eat it without the bun.

Unnaturally excited about the upcoming release of Wreck-it Ralph.

Making a point of waking up just a little bit earlier each morning so I can have the extra time to snuggle in with my pup and my honey.

What has been going on (big or little) in your lives lately?

  1. I need this wrap cardigan now. It is definitely cold enough here for a sweater like that.

I'm glad to hear your family in NY is safe after the storm. It's nice that you are visiting soon. I don't know much about eateries in NY so I'm looking forward to your recommendations and photos from the trip :)

  2. oooh! I have had the exact same cardigan in my shopping cart for weeks now! How is the itch factor in it?
Sandy was very merciful to us and we just experienced loads of rain and some wind...and the boys had cabin fever... but OH so lucky to have had just that.
Enjoy your time with the fam!

    1. Re: the cardi, I didn't find it itchy at all. It is really soft and warm, imo. Sizing is a bit weird though - originally ordered the S and it was really big overall and really long and wide in the sleeves. Exchanged it for an XS which is what I am wearing in the pics and it is tight in the sleeves, though I am wearing another long-sleeve shirt underneath it. Hope this helps!

  4. I love that you made pup beds in every room. I bet there is a sweater for a 50-lb dog out there. Ebay? :)

You do look warm and fabulous in that sweater. I could have used one like it when our heat at work was malfunctioning earlier this week :)

We ate at a dim sum restaurant in Chinatown that had NYT recommended soup dumplings. Pure heaven, as was everything else we ate. I cannot wait to go back to the magic land of yummy affordable food everywhere. Luckily, The Costume Technician lives there now, so we have an excuse to visit.

  7. Love the churros at Costco! Our big baby was shivering the other night, but wanted nothing to do with a blanket??? Ha! Gotta love dogs! I LOVE this sweater!

  9. I have ZERO willpower when it comes right down to making good diet decisions. I could wake up in the morning and chant "sal-ad, sal-ad, sal-ad" all dang morning, but the second I leave the office, I'm all "You know what would be good? CHICKEN FINGERS AND FRENCH FRIES."

I think it may be that I'm hungry and I implusively eat whatever it is that I want because of it. I think that there is a lot to the idea that if you eat little mini-meals and snacks all throughout the day, you won't be hungry come meal time and therefore more likely to eat the healthy thing you've planned b/c your chicken finger monster isn't screaming at you from inside your stomach.

Love the sweater! Reminds me of one that I saw in Gap a few weeks ago!

  10. That sweater looks so cozy warm. We're having weird weather here too. It snowed last week & yesterday it was 75. So weird to be warm on Halloween.

Life has been crazy for me lately hence my long absence from commenting & blogging. But it's good to be back! I've missed "seeing" you & reading what you have to say. Gotta go catch up on the other posts I missed! Glad to hear your fam/friends in the east are doing OK. Crazy stuff over there.

  11. Basically this week life has consisted of me writing papers, screaming at invisible people to relieve stress and trying not to cry. I have completely lacked creativity in dressing so that has been on my mind as well as all of the academia things. I just want a break!

  14. Such a cozy blanket wrap card! I love it!

I can't count how many times I've been to Costco and never realized they sell churros. I think you just changed my husband's life. And I'm with you on the unnatural excitement to Wreck-It Ralph. Since they delayed The Great Gatsby's release, this is probably the only movie I'm looking forward to seeing this fall/winter.

  15. OMG removing a gel manicure at home is the pits! NEVER AGAIN. It basically convinced me never to get a gel manicure again. Lol!

OMG all food at costco -- I'll take pizza, berry smoothies, churros, and all the samples my stomach can take. Lol!

  28. I just broke out my big down comforter last night! It was a really chilly one and I'm afraid from now on, those sudden changes to summer-ly weather are totally over. I'm glad that your family are doing well and that you'll have the chance to visit NY and enjoy the food; I hope you have a great time! I love this big wrap sweater, btw, it looks so cozy and warmth, and the print it's really beautiful!

  29. Catching up on my blog reading and saw this post! Definitely check out Smorgasburg in Brooklyn for some good eats - this weekend has the last outdoor markets, next weekend it is indoors at this old bank building.

And after the past couple of days that have been on the warmer side, NYC is finally cooling down back to fall sweater weather!
