Stripes & Gingham Get Chill

I hope you ladies in the NE and Mid-Atlantic regions are staying safe, warm  and dry today with your loved ones!

gingham stripes

I donned this outfit last week before the temps made their sudden dive southward this weekend. I guess I can kiss bright crisp afternoons in short-sleeves goodbye. As I much as I look forward to cooler weather, I can't say I enjoy having to bundle up so much already just to walk the pup in the mornings (sorry, neighbors, I've officially broken out my flannel PJ bottoms and when it's the crack of dawn, I'll be seen meandering my way across your walk in monkey pants and kick butt hiking boots).

I spent most of last winter in skirts and heels sans stockings and felt fine about it. This year however, as it is just beginning to hit the 50s in the SE, I am having thoughts of filling my closets with big ole nubbly warm sweaters and puffy super-warm coats. And knee socks. Thick woolen toe warmers. When did I suddenly become a cold wimp? I think that living in the SE for the past few years has made me soft to anything under 65. Be warned, I can already anticipate my level of chilled-to-the-bone whining come January temps!

How are you ladies dealing as the thermometer creeps downward? Are you reveling in the chilly days or curling in your toes and starting to bundle in your coziest?

  2. lisa, your outfit is gorgeous! the striped skirt and gingham top look exquisite together. i'm loving your orange accessories with it too. we were in the 80's the other day! now we've dipped about 20 degrees in temperature. it's those quick changes that make things hard. luckily, i had already changed out my closet, but you really feel the difference in the temps. have a great week lisa!

    1. I know, I totally overdid it on the cool weather gear on Sunday but it's getting to that point where you don't want to get out of bed or the shower because it's cold out there!

  3. Gingham and stripes is so cute together! I hate the cold, the only thing I like about it is getting to wear boots!

  4. I love your stripes + gingham + orange! It's very cheery, even when you're talking about cold weather...definitely trying to hold onto the warmer weather while it lasts : )

  5. Had to convert your temperatures, you are talking in farenheit yes? In which case 50 is 10 celcius. It was 1 degree c when I left the house Saturday morning, 10 degrees in late October would be really nice! Having said that I'm not feeling the cold too much yet, I can still wear short sleeves in the office as we don't have aircon & it does get warm under the lights. Then I pop on a coat for driving home. Gloves and winter scarves might come out in about a month? We'll see :-)

    1. When I used to live in the NE, these temps were nothing - people would go outside in short sleeves and shorts!

  6. I've become a cold wimp too! I'm blaming it on last year's unseasonably warm winter. :) I love this combination on you. The skirt is so flirty and fun!

  7. I have a similar shirt to yours, but not nearly as cool a skirt. Still you've inspired me to break it out - maybe when the weather gets a little warmer.

My neighbors are long used to my pjs, galoshes, and a coat for dog-walking. There will be no blog pics...lol.

    1. Hehe, I so want a cape in my life, but I haven't found one yet that wasn't too short or way too big. LEC had a windbreaker/capelet last year that I didn't bite on and now I totally regret it!

  22. Yesterday and today were the first chilly days! I broke out tights (which I normally HATE b/c of the waistbands, but this year, I've decided to suck it up, pun intended, and wear them!) and today, duck boots. VIVA LA COLD!

  28. Interesting mix of gingham and stripes, love it! I'm down with chilly temps as long as I'm properly attired:p And I did buy some woolen knee-high socks for the first time recently. Now I don't know why I've never thought of buying them before! hehe

  29. Wow this stripes and gingham combo is gorgeous! A reminder I still need to get myself a gingham shirt from J Crew. And it's getting warmer here so I'm going in the opposite direction, gladly swapping winter boots for sandals :)

  36. It will "cool" down to the 70s this week but we're expecting 90F on Nov. 5! I know as soon as the temps drop enough to wear sweaters, which is what I think I want, I'll complain about how cold it is.

Adorable set. So fresh and pretty.

  37. I wouldn't have thought of pairing that necklace with the gingham top and with the striped skirt. Such an interesting mix of prints! I realize I still have to learn a lot when it comes to dressing up. Haha!

And I didn't realize I still haven't followed you despite leaving comments here and there. So now I did! :D

  38. I just moved to Florida in march after living up North my whole life. You'd think I'd be fine in the cold, but as soon as temps dropped to the 50s here in Florida I became a total wimp! I have been doing the same thing walking the dog in the morning, wearing long pants and sweaters. I love this outfit, it's perfect for fall. I still haven't gotten a bubble necklace and think it's seriously time I invest in one. They seem to go with everything!

I'm actually surprised about the temps here in ID - Halloween is usually welcomed with snow on the ground but this year and last have been warm and mild. I will take it! My heart goes out to those affected by Sandy!
