Whether we stroll into a posh shop and flip out our black cards for the latest and greatest in next season's gear or save our dollars and score big at a super sale or thrift shop, I think it is pretty apparent here that we all like to get dressed and bring new things into our closets.

And I am admitted shopaholic. I really really like clothes, shoes, accessories. I probably see my local UPS guy more often than most. I like checking out some of my favorite online retail sites once every few days to see the latest and I do keep mental tabs on a few wish list items at each store just in case they hit sale or I stumble on a discount code. I love blogs like JCA and EA because I often hear about new sales there sooner than I would get the retailer e-mail. I check out flash sale sites every few days. If I am killing time and in front of the computer, Ebay is a fantastic minute muncher.

One thing I don't do very often though? Go to the mall to shop. I know, weird. Because there my synapses go into overload and I may end up with a small impulse control issue. I have been known to buy more than I intended. So I honestly prefer online shopping a lot of the times because I can take my time, ponder an item without (perceived) pressure, comparison shop. (And no, I don't thrift either, because I've tried multiple times and failed at all of them, and I do have the completely biased misperception that most thrift clothes are falling apart and would never work for me).

All in all for me, I go to the mall or store probably once a month and peruse online retailers several times per week. I do buy something probably once a week, though it is almost always on sale or heavily discounted. I try to maintain a fairly sane closet by selling through my blog sale or donating or passing on to a friend. I probably shop more than I should, and yes it is a little superficial to be all about me-me-me, but I'm working and saving and not creating new debt through my love for shoes. So yeah, I may be a little sheepish about bringing home my fourth navy blazer, but I'm not going to apologize for it.

So what about you ladies. I think it is safe to say that in this personal style blogging community of ours, most of us are not shy about shopping. How often do you shop?

  1. Love how you matched your top to your shoes! Great outfit! I too am a shopaholic!! I can't seem to not buy something that I see that I want...

  2. That hint of the scalloped collar is so cute!

I don't shop now nearly as often as I used to. Now I try only to buy items that are missing in my wardrobe and will work with the other things in my closet. I like to shop in store and online, but I HATE paying for shipping. I'll usually only purchase online if it's something I can't get in store and/or it's an exceptional deal.

    1. I rarely ever buy something online and pay for shipping - that's gotta be one of those "online only, you need this in your life, buy it today or it'll be gone forever" kind of things! Granted, I've apparently run into those kind of things before ...

  3. Lisa, you are so awesome! Thanks to this post, you reminded me about a dress I wanted at Anthro. I've been waiting for it to go on sale (from $148 to $79). So I left your post and logged on to Anthro and it WAS ON SALE! HAHAHA So I just ordered it. Just subscribed to those two blogs also. That will be very helpful! I am an online shopper! I wait for the free shipping and discounts. I know my sizes, so it's never an issue for me. I hate shopping the malls. Especially when it's crowded. I know my UPS man too! LOL Love your outfit and those shoes.

  4. I shop online ALL THE TIME. It's getting to a point that it's out of control. I can't even keep track of how many packages I'm expecting that week. I live in a small town and there is nothing here. I rely heavily on online shopping. I prefer it that way as I get distracted easily. If I need to shop for one thing, I look specifically for that item online. If I stroll in the mall, who knows what I will end up with to take home LOL

    1. Haha, I know! For some reason, if I need a XYZ item and go to the mall, I will not walk out with a XYZ item, instead I will walk out with ABC, DEF, GHI!

  5. I look at Anthro & Boden every week online but I don't buy every week, not even every two weeks. I just wouldn't be able to afford it. Plus now I have my baby girl I have to spread the £ even further and it's almost more fun shopping for her anyway. I have SO MANY clothes already that like you, I'll buy something heavily discounted (that's the only time I buy from Anthro over here) or just looks for "gaps" that might need filling. I don't own a black handbag for example as I hate wearing/looking at/shopping black stuff but I can see how a black handbag would be useful :-)

  6. Hi Lisa,i always loved to shop.
Now i have gotten so much better at buying what i love and need and not just impulse buying.
I owe a lot to the blog community(JCA),where i learned to wait for codes, popbacks and sales.
I wish i could shop jcrew in a B&M,it is so much more fun to see store displays and styling advice.

    1. I know - when there's no code or sale or something, I hardly ever buy anything at JC. And they know that. So they mark their stuff up and offer up % off every other week and I fall into their clutches. ;oP

  7. Ok honestly I look at clothes basically every weekend online and when I am bored but I rarely buy anything online. I know that I need to stop tempting myself by looking online because some day I am going to give in and start buying. As far as actually buying things, I probably buy something every other weekend.

  8. I'm totally mesmerized by your scallop collar! lol

I totally prefer to shop online. I take forever to ponder over things. It's nice to see the product in person, but I can't stand the crazy crowds sometimes or waiting to ask for a sales associate to help me get a size at a store.

  11. I have shopaholic tendencies but I've gotten much better at figuring out my needs/wants, what will get actually wear and waiting for sales. I do more online shopping than in person because I have to be in the right mood and it needs to be the right day (i.e. not Saturday) for me to check out stores and try things on.
I adore the color peeking out, your leopard shoes and the animal bracelet. This outfit is so adorable.

    1. I find the SAs at JC and Anthro typically pretty nice, though one time at JC, the SA was a little too nice. Kept running into the back and bringing me items to look at while I was still browsing around up front. I know that person was trying to be helpful, but after a bit, I actually slunk my way out of the store!

  17. i'm a shopalot too! i love looking at flash sale sites, gigi and many other bloggers keep me in the loop with sales, and i can escape in ebay too. i dislike mall shopping as well, because i find the selection overwhelming in the store, especially if their layout is messy.

    1. Messy layout? Like a Forever 21?! I stay at least 100 yards from that place whenever I see one - there's way too much stuff in there! I admit that place does churn out the occasional gem though, but I limit that retailer to online shopping only!

  18. I'm in love with the pop of red from your scalloped collar and the red piping and bow on your leopard flats! So cute!

Haha! I agree with Taylor that it would be easier to count the days that I don't shop. I'm a big online shopper as well because I like to think about items for awhile rather than impulsively buy, which I tend to do when I'm shopping in stores. Also, being petite makes it difficult to buy in-store, since most of my preferred petite haunts only offer their selection online. I rarely, if ever, buy things full-price and I refuse to pay for shipping. There are too many promotions and codes floating around to lead me to believe that I should buy something at the retail cost and then pay shipping on top of that.

    1. Good luck, girl! I've personally never been good with spending freezes (makes me want what I can't have even more!) but I kind of do the whole "one in, one out" deal - if I am bringing something new into my closet, then I better be donating/selling/handing off an item. It doesn't work ALL the time, but it does help me to assess what I've got most of the time.

  21. Love love love that little collar a lot.

I window shop online probably at least 4-5x/week but don't usually buy anything. I have really been trying to curtail my shopping but sometimes it's hard, especially when I see what fabulous new things bloggers like you are wearing. Thus, I also have been limiting my fashion blog reading as well.

I actually tend to buy more impulsively online than in stores. And I probably go shopping to actual stores once every month. Where I drop a lot of $$ without thought is Lululemon. Need to look cute practicing yoga!

  22. Hi Lisa, I am so behind with reading blog posts and commenting - but am catching up now! Yes, I check out the online stores almost every single day. Lately I haven't been looking too much because my budget is next to zero (which really puts a damper on my mood to shop), and luckily there hasn't been much at JC this season to tempt me. Plus, I have given up on shopping at places like H&M and Zara. Pretty much everything I have bought there in the past few years needs to go in the donate/trash pile, and I'm tired of wasting money on stuff that looks dull and limp after only a few washes/wears.

    1. I online shop a lot, but most of the time I am just browsing. I am totally one of those people who abandon online shopping carts all over the place. I figure if I am still thinking about a particular item in a few days time, then I should bite.

  23. I shop A LOT. It's sort of my only activity. Which is why the blog made so much sense to me when I started it; I'm doing all this shopping and clothes hoarding, why not tell the world? What I never realized that the blog would in turn cause me to want and buy even more! Aside from literally buying clothes off bloggers backs, I've ran out to a store in same day fashion to acquire something I saw someone else sporting.

(and I still try to keep a budget)

    1. If I have a specific item in mind that I need to buy, honestly I have the worst luck ever finding in in-store somewhere - it's usually long gone in my size or not in yet, so shopping online saves me some hassle. Plus most of the retailers I frequent have free ship and/or returns and that makes it too easy.

    1. Hi Lainee - I've worn these 3-4 times and found them to be super-comfy, they are like wearing slippers. I typically get 1/2 size bigger in Gap flats and these don't seem to stretch out too bad, but they are a bit wide. I don't expect these will be shoes we'll have for seasons on end, but I've been pretty happy thus far - hope this helps!
