Bugged Out Stripes & GCOGH Winner!

metallic & green

Here's attempt number 3,829 at trying out the cropped slouchy pant trend and attempt 1 of doing it in color.

Despite the fact that I'm a mere 5'2" with some sturdy legs to boot, I love a cropped pant. The slouchier the better. But I can't really pull the look off, so once or twice each season, I'll break some sort of baggy crotch ankle pant out for a twirl before realizing yet again that I've spent the day looking decidedly pear-shaped and a whole lot shorter than usual.

metallic & green  metallic & green

And while I adore the look of colored pants, I've got legs that look great in skirts but thighs that easily make most straight-fit pants into legging-tights, so the colored skinny denim trend hasn't really been me any favors either.

So here's my first fall go into things, this time keeping the legs looser and restraining the slouch into daytime non-Hammer revival appropriate. And granted I need a belt to ward off saggy-ass and must wear tall-tall heels, I don't think I did half bad this time around. Or if all else fails, people will be more distracted by my buggy bling or extra shimmery shirt.

Are there trends that may or may not work for you that you still love to keep trying out?

  3. Lisa, you look great!! I say go for the cropped pants if you like them, but just make sure you put on the tall heels.
I have a pair of slouchy pants from J.Crew that I know I shouldn't wear, but they are so comfortable and I can't help but love the loose and slouchy (but not sloppy) look either.

    1. There are days where I just go "heck with it" and wear items that I probably shouldn't wear - those are the days that I just don't look at myself in the mirror from the waist down. If I can't see how a certain pair of pants doesn't work for me, then it doesn't exist. ;o)

  4. Judging by these pics you are doing yourself a disservice Lisa, these trousers look great with the heels & dressy top. I'm so late to trends I can't tell you if anything works or doesn't, I only started wearing skinny jeans in oct 2011 ;-) x

  5. I love that look. I am also pear shaped, so have not tried them yet. I do love the peplum trend...but it does not love me back. I keep trying though..as if some magical shirt will work. Maybe one day, maybe one day...

    1. I adore the peplum look but I don't think I have enough of a waist to make it look nice vs making me look preggers.

  7. awesome necklace!

i can't do peplum. it just attracts unwanted attention to my midregion... yuck!

    1. Peplum kind of scares me because I had a bit of a gut - so what if a gust of wind blows by and my peplum blows up and everyone sees my muffin top! ;o/

  8. Lisa, I love this whole outfit! I'm right there with you - I love the cropped pants look, but always end up feeling like I've spent the day being "mumsy" (wearing Mom-pants) which is just...horrifying. I love the shot of green here, though - that changes up the whole feel dramatically. I may need to try it. :)

  9. I think you've pulled the look off quite well! I never would have guessed you're 5'2". I'm with Carol -- I have trouble doing slouchy without it looking "mumsy" and I'm 5'8"!

I am still trying to find a pair of printed pants that might work on me. They are my nemesis and yet I'm drawn to them, thick legs be damned.

    1. I keep eyeballing all those great printed crop trousers that J.Crew comes out with but they always end up looking like leggings than sleek trousers on me, bah.

  10. I think you look great in these pants!
I can't pull off spaghetti straps. It just looks all wrong with my larger chest. Also the color mauve makes me look like death warmed over. :)

    1. Spaghetti straps just make me feel kind of nekkid. ;o) Plus I don't have the cleavage or of the college-age youth to pull off showing my bra straps all the time. ;o)

  13. I think those pants look great on you! I also can have problems with cropped pants because of my height. I love them, but I'm fairly tall so they can hit me at the wrong spot!

    1. The grass is always green on the other side, isn't it? I had a gal pal who was over 6' tall and she always talked about how she had problems finding pants long enough for her - of course I end up complaining about how I need to chop off like 4-5" off almost every pair of pants I buy.

  15. I know exactly what you mean! There are so many looks and pants I love, but my 5'0 frame doesn't always pull them off. I think you look fab though and I love the metallic tee with the necklace:)

  19. heh...I may have realised it a little late in life but man, do heels ever help out with a lot of body-clothing disagreements! Even my boyfried, who has been a stalwart heel-hater all his life, now concedes the benefits! I love, love, love this top!

  21. I love this look on you, I think you pull it off perfectly well. The trend I try without much success is midi skirts, they just end up looking more or less dowdy.

    1. I love the look of midi skirts but really nothing below the knees look good on me, regardless of how high my heels may be!

  25. I happen to be one of those women who love colored pants (the brighter, the better:p), so totally digging this look! I agree with everybody here in that you look good in them green pants:)

  26. I also have thick thighs and find it hard to pull off the skinny colored/printed denim trend, which does have my heart although slouchy pants do not yet. I bought a pair of coral polka dot skinnies from Anthro but returned them because as they relaxed throughout the day they made my legs look wider and wider.

    1. I miss the days when there was more cotton in jeans instead of spandex/poly/on. I prefer most if not all cotton since I feel like they kind of suck me in - the super stretch legging jeans make me feel oh so sausage-like and give me saggy butt!

  27. Similar to you. I have thighs that don't work with skinny jeans/pants but somehow, I still love wearing them. It's the American, "I wear what I want" side of me. The Japanese-foreigner side would say, "Let's hide ourselves under our flowy A-line skirts today." You look great though! As always, the accessories are bomb.

  30. I think you've found a pair that really work for you--the fit on these is great!! I've had a hard time with this trend too--the legs either look too baggy or too tight on my legs.

  31. This pair totally works for you! I love the baggy/slouchy trend too and since I'm also short pairing the slouchy pants with heels helps a ton. Your shirt is adorable too!

To be honest, I think I may have the same problem with slouchy pants, maybe it's cause I'm a shortie too! :)

  39. You did really, really good!!! Whenever I go slouchy casual, I want to wear flats to keep it comfy and that just makes me look like a stump. ;)

  40. You are rocking this look from head to toe. You're right, high heels are the secret to success for shorties and cropped ankle pants. I do better with a fitted ankle pant because I'm shaped like a boy, but then deal with the stretching out process during the day. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think you look pretty good in these cropped slouchy pants, Lisa! And I hear you, I have a pair of cropped pants that I love, but every time I wear them I have to figure out a way to wear them so they look cropped and not shrunk regular pants! I love that necklace, btw, such an interesting design!
