I originally had a completely different post written, but when I read it over the first time, my eyes blurred, jaw slackened and head started listing to the left. I think both my arms and legs also fell asleep while I drooled on my chin, it was that dry and boring.
So I had to hit the DEL button hard and start from scratch, all the while reminding myself that this is a blog, it is supposed to be fun, not some quantum physics dissertation. I know 99% of my posts come from the blather that is inside my head, but geeze, when did I start taking that with any seriousness?
I've mentioned before that for the most part, I am a pretty easy-going laid back person. Stuff just rolls off my back, I am so laid back. Except when I'm not.
There are just some things in life that I happen to take with the upmost (too dang much for no good reason) seriousness. Like dirty dishes have to go into the dishwasher just so, or apparently they will smash each other into bits. Different shades of brown must. not. go. together. If rules are written somewhere - well shoot, they must be followed. Worlds will collide and the galaxy will destroy itself if it is 12:42 and I still have not had lunch yet. No one must touch my phone, I get very important calls all the time - wait for it ... I can't possibly miss any meeting I was invited to attend because I obviously have very important contributions to make all the time. And I write fluffy - but entirely too self-important - blog posts that should rightfully change the face of personal style blogging [snort].
Do you sometime find that you take yourself too seriously? In which situations do you normally find yourself furrowing your brow and gritting your teeth for no good reason?

Uhh, how about EVERYTHING? Seriously though (hehe, get it??), I think that's one of my biggest flaws. I take everything a smidge too seriously, which makes for prickly company and too-often wounded feelings.
ReplyDeleteOh lady, you can come share my sulk corner whenever you like! ;o)
Deletelove this look, just fabulous! stripes on stripes!

I am totally guilty of this (especially the bit about loading the dishwasher). I have to stop and remind myself that those little things don't matter and life is a little bit more fun when I'm less predictable and serious :) I love this outfit, I seriously want to raid your closet!
ReplyDeleteStephanie
I have to remind myself sometimes that just because someone is not doing something the exact way I would have done it, it doesn't mean they aren't helping or their way is not valid. Ah, the Type A in me ...
DeleteI had this great, long post that was super serious and then I was like COME on Alissa!
ReplyDeleteI am exactly the same way. People using my computer? That is serious serious business.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely guilty of taking myself (and my time) extremely seriously. Maybe too seriously? I think a little of that started when I became a mom and noticed that, as Liz Lemon told Oprah, "my work-self is suffocating my life-me". So meeting proliferation and other dumb requirements that take me away from either my family, my leisure time, or the substantive work I need to be doing really turn my wheels. I usually get really mad and stay that way for about 30 minutes, then turn it into a funny story--so I can laugh at myself a little later, but not in the moment. It is that laughter that has probably prevented me from going straight up She-Hulk at work.
ReplyDeleteThe folks at my current job are a lot calmer, but at my previous position, I've totally gone She-Hulk, haha. Actually, I got the nickname "trade show Lisa" because I planned events and when I was on-site or in the midst of prepping, lord help you if someone got in my way, haha!
DeleteLove this stripe on stripe look and the skirt is super cute!

I get all witchy when shoes are worn on the baby rug. Not like I don't have a massive vacuum 5 feet away in the closet. I also used to hate it when someone logged me out of my computer at work and I had to wait 15 seconds because I had to re-log in. Overall I'm must less crazy now that I no linger commute or work :)
ReplyDeleteLucky gal! ;o)
DeleteMy dad is obsessive about the floor at home - lord help a person if they try to walk into my parents' home with their shoes on, haha!
haha aw, everyone deserves a good rant now and then. i have to admit though- i have never paid my dishes that much thought ;) but i whole heartedly agree on the brown thing- just don't mix and match them, people!
ReplyDeleteand lovely outfit, i love a good pattern mixing and this one is far too adorable :)
Thanks, Marlen. I just noticed in these pics that my shoes don't quite match my belt. I am going to have to avert my eyes ...
DeleteThis outfit is gorgeous! I love stripes on stripes, and the shape look so good on you!

Oooh, love the stripes on stripes. I try not to take myself too seriously on my blog because, well, let's just face it, I'm not that great of a writer these days. I adore reading your blog though for that very reason. Your sense of humor cracks me up. ;)
ReplyDeleteSequins&Stilettos
Finding the right things to write, even if it's just a few sentences, is awful hard sometimes!
DeleteI came currently suffering from a bad case of the serious-me's which explains my blog/social media dry spell:(
ReplyDeleteLove,love,love this look!
yes, sometimes i do things in pairs of threes (really, i'm not ocd..).
ReplyDeletei do get really odd when it comes to pens and notebooks. i try to write with the same pen in the same notebook otherwise i get all weirded out/mad that it doesn't match.
yeah, i call it quirky... lol.
love the stripes on stripes!
Fun outfit, love the double stripes! And I am really obsessive with being on time...if others aren't on time, I honestly start getting anxious and upset lol
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a dad who naturally wakes up at the crack of dawn and is pretty much go-go-go all day long. I can't be late! ;o)
DeleteLove the stripes on stripes. You look so cute! I always take myself too seriously at work. I'm sure people hate me for it because I'm ultra competitive. I say don't hate the player, hate the game. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI'm also serious about ironing. I HATE rumpled clothing.
I can totally relate with you especially being too serious with work - getting to work on time and making sure that I get my work done for the day. I also notice that I get little anxious every now and then with posting on my blog "on time." I create deadlines in my head and I get upset when I miss them. But I have to take a step back and remember the reason why I started my blog.
ReplyDeleteMoody Girl
I still feel that way too sometimes, and I have to remind myself that "having to post" is all in my head - no one's going to care if I miss a day or two. When I tried posting everyday months and months ago, blogging got downright not fun for a bit!
DeleteWish I had gotten a Gondola piece :( I LOVE the second picture!!!

Haha, thanks, that was me being all serious and "fashion-y." ;oP
DeleteI think taking ourselves too seriously is an occupational hazard for teachers, particularly elementary teachers ... we make the rules and sometimes get a little crazy about it.
ReplyDeleteYou pull off double stripes with such aplomb, and that scarab necklace is lovely. :)
Oh yeah, if I was a teacher, especially of small kids, all that power would go right to my head! ;o)
Deletei am loving all the stripes! :D

Hehe, see if we can get any paid holidays for being afflicted with a case of the "seriouses." ;o)
DeletePerfection from top to bottom. You don't have to worry about being boring. Ever.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Gigi!
DeleteOh man! As a teacher working with 28 nine year olds?! If I get too caught up in how everything must go absolutely perfectly I would have a heart attack. You gotta let a lot of things go! Perfect is the enemy of the darn good enough!
ReplyDeleteI crossed out teaching as a profession than I could have any success with years ago - I'd be that one teacher whose kids fear her, bleh!
DeleteStripes on stripes! (: I love it. I hope that you can find an energy reserve somewhere and keep going, haha. I take myself too seriously WAY too often and have to regularly remind myself to cut it out.
ReplyDeleteOh shoot! I think I told you a couple of days ago that it was my fave outfit of yours...can I please add this one too?! You look fantastic!! Love stripe on stripe.

Aw, thanks much, Amy!
DeleteNice blog. Would you like to follow each other? =)
ReplyDeleteI really like the stripes with stripes combo!
ReplyDeleteI tend to get "serious" when I'm stressed out, which is hardly surprising. Sometimes it goes on for a while, but sometimes I can catch myself and yell "get over yourself!" :)
Blogging is usually my one outlet where I can be less serious, but after some rudeness last year, I actually am finding I am VERY CAREFUL about what I put out there, ya know? So I am an imperfect perfectionist. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am way more anal retentive about my clothing, honestly. If my clothes aren't folded or hung just right or my clothing isn't cleaned and dried exactly to my specifications, I re-do it all. It is sort of exhausting. Mr. Dina insists this means I need a new hobby, but then I remind him that he does the same thing when displaying his action figures (read: play pretties) in his (TWO!) rooms of shelves. That usually hushes him right up. Aww...a marriage built on neurotic behavior. Ha.
On a total fluff note, I ADORE the stripes on stripes with pretty heels look you have going here.
I'm the same way. I think I get more wear out of clothes more than most because regardless of whether it is a higher end piece or just Forever 21, I treat my clothes well!
DeleteWell, I seriously love this look. See what I did there? Yeah, I know. Lame. Anyway, I love to laugh, but I find myself taking myself too seriously a lot. I'm kind of a perfectionist, so when things don't go the way I want them to it's hard to "go with the flow".
ReplyDeleteI'm def a perfectionist too - totally am one of those "I'd rather do it myself" kind of people (which is stupid when I really think about it. Oh more work for me? Yay?)
DeleteLOVING all the stripes!!! To die for.
ReplyDeleteYou are wearing my favorite: stripes! Love the mix of two stripes, gorgeous on you:) xo
ReplyDeleteThis combo is absolutely amazing! You look great!

Great pattern mixing! I love your post today because I think I delete 99% of what I write all the time ;-)
ReplyDeleteStripes on Stripes!! I love it!! Only you could pull this amazing look off Lisa!!
ReplyDeleteYour skirt is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes---that skirt is gorgeous! I am not serious very often (except at appropriate times, of course) but what irks me is people who don't follow the rules.
ReplyDeleteLoving your stripes on stripes- so cute!!

I am absolutely obsessed with this outfit, Lisa! You've done such a great job putting it together...I instantly went to Ann Taylor to check out the skirt and let me just say, they really need to replace the model photo with your photo because the way you're wearing it definitely makes me want it so much more!

I am amazed at how well different stripes go together, and I want the beetle? bug? necklace real, real bad :P
ReplyDeleteAccording to Dear Hubby, I take everything too seriously. I always respond with, "But then why do I want to laugh at the most inappropriate times?" but he still says I'm a worrier.
I hate it when dishes pile up in the sink, really, really hate it.
I absolutely love the stripe combo, you pull it off effortlessly!
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit.
