So when you just kind of let yourself hang out there on the Internet, what does that say about you? Or rather, what does your carefully edited blog self say about you?
My blog? Well it is obvious I like getting dressed. I like clothes and I like putting clothes together. (And hopefully it appears that I have some semblance of style). I like love J.Crew, Anthropologie, Zara. My style is kind of prep, kind of girlie, kind of tomboy, mostly work-appropriate. I live in the SE, have a sweet fiance and sweet sweet pup. I like traveling - except for the traveling part. I luurrrvvve to eat. I don't know nuthin' 'bout tweetin'.
What I hope also comes across in my blog? That I am quirky, have a wacky wry sense of humor, enjoy keeping things light. That I am quick-witted, well-read, mildly sophisticated but not stuffy, keep up on pop culture and current events but are not consumed by them. That I have heightened intelligence snort, don't take things too seriously and like having a good ole time.
Things about me that I don't think any of you would guess about me from my blog? I used to be a big comic book reader, specifically the X-Men series, and I have a huge collection of poly-bagged books at my parents' home - I was totally a collector for a while. I may post pictures of myself wearing pretty outfits online, but I still battle major self-image issues. Despite what my Pinterest boards show, I can't decorate my house to save my life - I have no theme, no style, no idea what does or doesn't go together. Though I've yet - knock on wood - to seriously bust my ass in high heels, I still feel like a tottering newborn giraffe in anything over three inches.
And I know, I know, we really only get to know about > this < much about someone from their blog, and technically we only know what a blogger wants us to know, so what do we really know, you know? But I think as readers it is natural to make assumptions about a person from what we get to see - i.e., Lisa really really likes clothes. And stripes. Definitely stripes.
If you are a blogger, what do you think your blog says about you? What is something about you that you don't think any of your readers would ever guess about you?
Top: Loft (worn here - sim, sim, casual, green)
Skirt: Ann Taylor striped flounce (I am wearing a regular length, same in petite, sim casual, fancy)
Clutch: Rebecca Minkoff (worn here - sim, sim, mini)
Bracelets: F21 faceted & Target pearl (sim, sim)
Shoes: Sofft ramona II (worn here - sim, sim, same no peep)

Love the outfit with the pattern mixing!

Your blogs is one of my favourites to read, especially because of posts like this. For some reason I'm not super surprised about the X-men thing. I love Rogue and Storm. I hope my blog represents a joy for life, and a celebration of the everyday and simple things. I hope.

Rogue is one of my fave characters. She's so strong but also kind of fragile - and I always root for her to get together with Gambit!
DeleteYou look great. Love the outfit and pattern mixture. Hair looks fab too.
ReplyDeletelove this! love your honesty!! i think you're funny! and adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI really hope that people see that I really am a fun person, I don't really want to pretend that I am a super deep person but also that I'm not overly shallow. Which sometimes I think it hard to do when the majority of what I blog about is clothing and other shallow things.
ReplyDeleteI think that is one of the things I like about our blog community. We're all here to talk fashion and show off pretty outfits, but I believe we all understand that this is just a smidge of who we are and we do this as a little break from "the real world."
DeleteThat skirt is super adorable on you!
ReplyDeleteLove this skirt!
ReplyDeleteI like what I know about you from your blog so much so that I am certain I would like you in real life too. We would be good friends and have a lot of fun together too.
I have no idea what my blog says about me. What I don't think people know about me from my blog though is that I am quite funny (toot toot). I like to laugh and smile A LOT. And I'm quite confident that no one has any idea about my childhood and my family dynamic. People are always surprised at the things I've had to deal with because they say I don't "look" like the type of person that stuff happens to. Anyway, sharing that sort of thing is definitely reserved for real life conversations so we'll have to meet one day and I can share all of my stories with you over a glass of wine :)
You and I could raid each other's closets, haha!
DeleteI know one thing about you from your blog - you've got some fantastic hair and you're always doing interesting and cute things with it. Like that bun on top of your head recently? Somehow you know how to make it look more classic than trendy.
I really love that skirt - hard to believe it's from Ann Taylor. You look fantastic as always.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out this whole blogging thing...
Haha, me too. I wish there was a guide book - but then again, who'd want to follow those rules?
DeleteI think you're just fabulous. And I love the dog photobomb. =)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt.
Yes, my pup can't be denied sometimes!
DeleteThis is so true! I'm new to blogging, but it's amazing how we edit ourselves on our blogs. When I'm thinking of an idea I wonder "will people actually enjoy reading this? is this something people can relate to? Is it worth posting?" I guess part of that is good, because I don't want my blog to be full of mumbo jumbo, but it's interesting how little of ourselves we really show through our blogs. I hope people come to my blog and think I'm insightful/helpful/relatable, but I also hope people view me as real/honest in my approach to writing and the topics I address. People probably get that I enjoy fashion and photography as well as writing, but they probably don't get my struggle to actually BECOME a professional photographer. They also don't get to see 95% of the photos for my outfit posts which are generally ridiculous because my darned photog/boyfriend is always making me laugh or do weird things.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the insight, I love love love reading your blog. And the outfit is fab!
Stephanie
Thanks, girl. I totally do that myself and that's why I let go of the "blogging everyday" thing a long time ago. It was getting to be not so fun when I felt like I had to put together a "bloggable" outfit or commentary every day - now I blog maybe only 2-3 times a week and it's OK!
DeleteYou look absolutely beautiful in this combination!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!
DeleteI try to keep my blog light and I try not to talk about my little family *too* much for their protection. Many people would be surprised to know about a childhood that was less than stellar but no one really wants to know the sad stuff, right? My blog is my little space to post outfits that truly don't matter in the grand scheme of things but it just might make me smile. I appreciate blogs (like your own) that write well and convey humor- so thank you for keeping us entertained. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for putting out knockout ensembles that keep me inspired! ;o)
DeleteAll the things that you mentioned totally come across in your blog! As soon as I stumbled across your site, I thought you were a really cool chick with a wonderful sense of style and I pressed that follow button immediately!
ReplyDeleteAnd that opinion did NOT change with your X-Men comic book revelation--I HAVE THE SAME COLLECTION OF POLYBAGGED COMIC BOOKS AT MY PARENT'S HOUSE. Each in its own little baggie with a cardboard backing and filed in those white cardboard comic boxes. (And a few action figures, too--I liked collecting the girls. Like, would go to Toys R Us and ask them to open brand new shipments from the back so that I could get the girl before anyone else.) I freaking loved/still love X-Men--especially Jean Grey. I was/still am a Jean Grey Freak. Gosh, the 90's were a great time to be an X-Men fan.
I think this makes you my blog twin.
Taylor
ohwelltatslife.blogspot.com
Girl, if I could hug you, I would. X-men high five! I love Jean Grey and I kind of hated all the drama the writers kept interjecting in her relationship with Cyclops by throwing in Wolverine and Psylocke all the time - can't there be one happy couple in mutant-dom?
DeleteAs you know, I keep it pretty real on my blog, but there are a LOT of things that happen in my life or have happened that I won't post on there because they are exceedingly personal. I think (and hope) that people see me as a real person who likes clothes. I don't even know what I would call my style! LOL I love your blog--both your style and reading your blog. You bring up good points and interesting topics. I can see you as very similarly entertaining IRL as you are on the blog. And stripes. We all love the stripes. This is a great combo Lisa!
ReplyDeleteI started listing what I thought my style was and 3,456 words later, I realized that I don't really have a style, at not one I could describe anyways. But shoot, that's OK!
DeleteYou have a special way to show the trends that are better for you.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I was just thinking about this the other day. I was wondering what people who read my blog think about me. I was wondering how my readers would describe me & wondered if it would be close to who I really am. I also wonder if I would be more open if my blog didn't include my last name. I'm never sure that my written voice comes across as authentic to who I am as a person. I'm trying to work on that in my posts. I'm trying to not just throw some words down because I need to post something quickly.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say...I got all of the things you mentioned about your personality from reading your blog. I don't think I would have guessed the comic book thing though :o)
I know one thing about you from your blog - you've got close to the best dog ever! ;o)
DeleteI think you definitely come across as quirky and extremely intelligent and laid back and fun and lots of other good things. Sometimes I wonder what people think of me through just what I put out there, because I can tell you that I don't put very much out there. I've discovered I'm a much more private person than I thought I was.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this entire outfit. The pattern mixing, the pop of color, the silhouette - you look utterly gorgeous.
I hope that my readers see that I am quirky and funny and that I provide some form of entertainment even if it's just for a few moments. Since I am a stylist, I hope that eventually I will be able to provide helpful information on why certain cuts or clothing designs flater different body types.
ReplyDeleteLisa - your blog is inspirational!
lifeandstylebylisab.blogspot.com
lisa, i adore your outfits, and personally the reason i come to your blog is because of your kind outlook and the way you engage your readers.
ReplyDeletei hope my blog viewers see someone who is trying to make my own style and find what i feel best in, with a bit of my own life thrown in. and that i'm a crazy cat lady. and somewhat obsessed with jcrew. :/
AND you'll be getting married soon!!!!! So close, girl!
DeleteLovely mix of the print on top and stripes on the bottom! :)

Your Ann Taylor skirt is ADORABLE. I love the stripes.

Love the outfit and the post! It is true that your blog self is most of the time the version of you that you want others to see but isn't it like that in real life too? Everything in my blog is 100% honest but I don't think I could translate my whole self into it because I wouldn't know how. I'd like to think that you can get to know my personality through it though, if you're really looking :)
ReplyDeleteI did a *kind of* similar post recently :)
I definitely hope I come across as "real" on my blog, but I do admit that since I completely control the content that is put out there, I aspire to put out the "best Lisa" I can. Like I take pics in the morning before my makeup is down my face and my hair and outfit are still fresh, I keep topics light and hopefully funny, etc.
DeleteWhat a great way to mix prints! Staying black and white white chic while throwing in an element of fun!

I've barely posted on my blog as it is fairly new, so it probably doesn't say much at all about me, other than I'm cheap. I love that skirt, and I WANT IT. Probably too short for me, though :(
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'2" and wearing the regular length, so I am sure for you regular-height gals, this will be a mini!
DeleteI think your blog shows you as a fun, light-hearted, thoughtful, and intelligent person. And of course, extremely stylish ... I adore this pattern mix and the doubled-up stripes! :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, my blog is almost a year old, but I'm still finding my voice and what I want my blog to convey about me.
Lisa, I love your blog and the topics you pick. I think you are pretty and stylish, funny, smart and down to earth and if I met you irl I think I would like to be your friend. I like how you keep it real and are not afraid to speak your mind.
ReplyDeleteAw, ajc, thanks! Speak my mind? Oh you don't want to know the things I keep to myself or only say to my close friends - plus I keep Trucker Mouth Lisa contained on this blog, which I can't seem to do in real life, haha!
DeleteNice dress you have on and cute doggie!
ReplyDeleteI LOL'ed at the name of your blog, it's so unique :)
Thanks for visiting my blog, would you want to follow each other? :)
p.s. are you a fan of Rebecca Minkoff? :)
Good grief, girl, I can't imagine anyone who dresses better than you do, so my mouth hung open when you said you started blogging to challenge yourself to dress better :o
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you mentioned still having self-image issues despite what I see as your incredibly gorgeous stylish self. I have issues, too, and actually used to hate having my picture taken. A benefit of blogging is becoming more comfortable with the body I was given and more comfortable in front of a camera, although I think my feet (usually curled) show a fair amount of camera shyness still.
People tell me they think I'm amusing, so I'm assuming that's what they get from my blog, reasonably witty and committed to my paralegal job. Because I'm not an anonymous blogger I can't share the bad stories some of my colleagues do, so I think peeps think I'm maybe perkier all the time than I really am. Of course I have days I want to shriek, but I'm not going to share those days online. And I loves Th' Twitter :D
I completely agree with you when you mention that a benefit of blogging is becoming more comfortable yourself - that was definitely the case with me. Before blogging, there were many things that I would just not wear - not even try them. Then when I started, I also didn't so my face for a while. Now that I show myself, I not only noticed that I do try a bit more to make myself look nice, am less afraid to try new styles and don't immediately snarl when there's a camera within sight of me - all of which helps me feel better about myself.
DeleteWhat a great outfit! I absolutely LOVE that skirt! Really awesome getting to know a little more about you!
ReplyDeleteI think my blog says a lot about me, by my outfits, what I write and by the layout and design. I'm a girly girl who loves all things pretty. I'm genuine, REALLY organized, and a loving daughter, friend and partner. I really try to convey the real me on my blog and through social media.
LOVE your blog and style!

Here&Now
Oh Lisa - you look amazing as always. I love this entire look on you today. I think that you've got pattern mixing down to a science. I enjoy reading your blog so much and I check it out pretty often - it's almost a little stalkerish :) I think that everything that you hoped to accomplish on your blog definitely comes across to your readers. One of the reason that I come back is because of your witty personality and sense of humor. I'm pretty sure that we would have a great time if we met in person. I imagine lots of laughs. I've often wondered what people thought about me and my blog. One thing that people don't know about me is that I love to laugh and I have a pretty good sense of humor.

You look absolutely stunning, I have serious hair envy.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I don't know what mine says, the funny thing is that I'm not really interested in fashion but I write about it because others like it and I really enjoy the dialogue. Sometimes I'm happy, sometimes I'm moany, I'm definitely silly and immature!
I love reading your "ramblings." And this is going to sound weird, but another reason I love reading your blog is not only because of your sharp wit, but you use all these British terms so I've got that familiar-but-still-foreign vibe going on (I said this was going to sound weird)!
DeleteMy blog is my creative outlet. I think it showcases my personality well. As time passed, I felt more comfortable writing on it. I rarely shared anything about my life during my first year, and I can't imagine going back to that now.
ReplyDeleteNo one would guess that I adore JRR Tolkien, and I pick out the strangest snacks from the Asian supermarket.
Asian supermarkets, yes. I have a huge H Mart near me and BF always hates going with me because I spend forever in there, going through the aisles and wanting to try this/that/other. I typically like to try strange Asian soft drinks.
Deletei know what you mean! it encourages you to try new things :D i love the print mix but how it is monochrome so it isn't too busy :D

Ever engaging, Lisa! For starter, I think readers (if I have any, hah!), will see I'm not a writer but I just do it for fun, that I take self-deprecation quite seriously:p, and that I love colors. People will not see that I'm a big smiler (how can they do when my face is not showing hehe), that I'm quite a laugher/giggler, that I'm probably more odd in person (in a good way, I hope; is there a good way to being odd?), and (some of) my neuroses, fortunately, that will probably make some people scratch their heads HAH!... Always love how you mix prints, and since I love stripes, double YAY!:)
ReplyDeletePeople are just boring if they aren't at least a big odd!
DeleteI love your dog photobombing your picture! :-) SO CUTE! And I love your blog because I feel like I can relate to it...I'm first generation Taiwanese here in the US and I feel like you've addressed a lot of feelings that I had when I was growing up. Where was your blog when I was going through my teenage years?!!? Haha, that would have helped. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skirt. I it a great outfit altogether but my eyes went straight to your skirt. I don't know if I said this before but I love an outfit with a good mix match pattern (yours for example).
ReplyDeleteHa! yes, we all have things our readers wouldn't think we have. For example I am conservative more than I can be liberal .... would you think that? NOOO, not by judging me by my blog :)

It's your refreshing honesty and letting "it all hang out" that I love about you and your blog (and others like it). Sometimes I become disenchanted with those "carefully edited" blogs that portray some ridiculously perfect life and perfect attitude. Keep on keeping it real Lisa! Love it!

Hello Lisa!
ReplyDeleteThank you for dropping by my site and leaving me some love. :) I loved reading this post. I also love that you LOVE X-Men! Like you said, people tend to develop their own idea of what we're like as people based on our posts. However, bloggers don't write about everything that goes on in their lives, just the opposite!
P.S. If you're ever in town, definitely check out the Revel hotel. I think you'll like it. :) Happy weekend to you!

I LOVED YOUR ENTRY. What a great read. I, too, started my blog to challenge myself. And also to make friends with people who have the same interests as me. I'm from small town TX where fashion isn't as freely used as it is in bigger cities, so it's a bit of a challenge. One can easily fall into a rut and just wear the uniform (hollister T and jeans), but my site has definitely helped. I've also met a lot of great people!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great look. I love the top and subtle print mix. :)
I loved this post and getting to know more about you! The outfit is beautiful - I love all things striped.
ReplyDeleteFrom my blog, I hope people feel inspired to DIY or are able to get a deal / cute item from one of the fitting room reviews. :)
I love reading your thoughts. I started blogging almost inadvertently and wonder all the time whether my blog is sincere, superficial, stupid or sane.
ReplyDeleteYour pup is cute and can I just tell you that while you always look cute, you are quite glam and gorgeous in this post.

Lovely pattern mixing and the reason I love your blog so much is you come off real. Like someone I would hang-out with or learn from. I guess I would love for my blog to say the same thing if I had time.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....No one would ever guess that I enjoy cooking more then getting dressed. Also I'm a beauty addict and have massive amounts of make-up...hehehe
You are so adorable! I love your style, it's so unique and I love your blog! We could totally be friends:) I love your sense of style and not taking things to seriously, I am all about laughing at myself and finding humor in life. You are my kind of girl:) This outfit is so awesome. I love both pieces and how you've mixed the prints, right up my alley. Your little fur friend is just precious also.
