Apologies for my absence last week, ladies, but I was consumed with a big work project - a biz trip to London! Traffic in the city was a nightmare and the sudden closure of the M4 for nearly a week meant that travel out of the city also became a bit hellacious so my outside non-working time was really limited, but I guess it all worked out since it literally rained every single day of my trip.
I've been lucky enough to have visited this city before, so this time I bypassed the major tourist attractions (though I drove past them on my way to Waterloo Station) and instead concentrated on areas I haven't been to - Camden, Richmond, Egham - and of course, eating well. And yes, though I missed Oxford Street, I did get bits of shopping in. I so want to plan a holiday to go back with the BF - London is one of my fave cities and the UK in general is gorgeous, I would love any excuse to go back!
Here's a medley of the sights and sounds from my trip -

Royal Holloway, one of the largest colleges in the University of London. The campus is unbelievably gorgeous.

Can you go to London and not try Indian? (Though I feel like I saw more Thai restaurants around town
than Indian, and had my best meal of the trip at Busaba Eathai, a Thai eatery).

Honestly I never even liked Walkers shortbread, but I still "managed" to consume about two of these each day.
And the bane of London taxi drivers from now through mid-August, one of those dreaded Olympic lanes.

I never got an opp to try a pasty this trip, but this flaky meat pie from Square Pie was a yummy sub.
And a glimpse of London Chinatown.

Bits from the Farnborough Airshow that I attended - Airbus 380 aerial demo & Virgin Galactic.
home of the Pickford stables and horse hospital. And converted scooter seating for some of the food marts.
The fish antipasti starter at Jamie's Italian, delish affordable Italian from celeb chef Jamie Oliver.
The seafood risotto and the polenta chips were also nom-tastic.
Nothing like the fantastic pub names in the UK. Had my first beer of the trip here.
And here's how I really experienced most of my trip - "beauteous" weather conditions.
I'll be back to my regular blogging soon, but thanks for checking out my trip pics, and here's an outfit I wore prior to heading out to the UK. Thanks, all!
The two winners for the Too Much Soul giveaway will also be announced shortly.
And in the interim, why don't you check out - and maybe enter - my $100 Shopbop giveaway!

Great pics from london, looks like you had a good time!
ReplyDeleteAre you wearing a jcrew fieldjacket in the first london pic?
If so,could you tell me,if its TTS and what size you are wearing?
I am usually a true 0 or xxs/xs,what do you recommened?
TIA
Hi Ina - yes, I am wearing the field jacket. I had been eyeballing it forever and found it in-store a few weeks ago and decided to bite on it. I am glad I did because it worked out perfect for my trip. I am wearing an XS and I think it fits TTS if not a tad large (which I thought was fine because I'd be layering). I am normally a 2/2P in J.Crew items so the jacket may be a bit large for you, but it's got snaps on the waist to define that area a bit and if you plan to layer it over sweaters, etc., it may work out well for you. Hope this helps.
DeleteThank you lisa!
DeleteIt helped a lot, because my friend in the states found a xs for me too.
Love the red dress, and I'm so jealous about your London trip. London is one of my favourite cities in the world too.
ReplyDeleteLooks SO fun. I have only been to London for a mere 8 hour layover and literally ran to see all the major tourist stuff and eat some fish n chips before hopping back on the plane. Would LOVE to be there for awhile and see everything. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI did that one when I had a real long layover at Minneapolis. Took the bus to the Mall of America and blew my mind for a few hours, haha.
DeleteReally beautiful dress. Jealous of that trip, looks like you had a great time, despite the weather!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Camden Town a fun little area? My friend lived there and I got the opportunity to visit him - it's so ecclectic!
ReplyDeleteLucky girl - and lucky friend!
DeleteLooks like you had an amazing time, even though you went for business! I'd love to go to London one day if I can bring myself to get on a plane for the long flight :)

Lisa, that dress is so pretty! I love that red on you and the brown accessories. Gorgeous! So glad you got to go back to London! It's most definitely an exciting time. You got to see some new faces and places which is always neat. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Wow, great trip! And I LOVE that dress!

Welcome back! Thanks for sharing the pictures, I haven't been to London is ages and I miss it.
ReplyDeleteMe too - London is one of my all-time fave cities! And thank goodness for "look right" signs painted on the crosswalks, haha.
DeleteAhh London-town... your pictures are envy-inducing!
ReplyDeleteCute dress! And great pics from the UK! Sorry you had such crappy weather but I guess that's Summer in London. I was there for a few days many years ago & we lucked out & had sunshine & warm weather the whole trip. Unheard of! Glad you had a good trip.
ReplyDeleteI did a tour of the UK with my dad years ago and we lucked out - I think it only rained once for our entire trip. This time, it literally rained every single day!
DeleteWow, I'd love to go back to London, what a beautiful city! That red dress is so pretty--I like the subtle high-low hemline!
ReplyDeleteIn spite of all that rain it looks like you had a fantastic time! I'm a bit jealous ;)
ReplyDeleteI never knew about that Royal Hallway! Thanks for sharing your trip! Great photos and adorable dress!
ReplyDelete--Vivienne
I wasn't entirely too sure we were supposed to be there - except it was Sunday and none of the security we saw on-site seemed to care.
Delete*rolls around grabbing stomach* oh man, i'm so jealous! i adore london. not sure when i'll be back there but... it's always a city to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteI know, I already want to go back - except without any of that "work stuff." ;o)
DeleteLove the red dress. Looks like a great trip!

Ahh! You have this dress! I couldn't find it in the Toronto stores :( It looks fabulous though. And I've never been to London so I very much enjoyed these trip pics. The food looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI originally ordered the petite version and it was soooooo short up front! This reg version hits just right - not sure what normal height ladies do in this dress!
DeleteSigh, London looks like such a fun adventure city. It's on the top of my must see places when I finally get to travel somewhere in Europe.
ReplyDeleteLisa, you look fabulous in this red dress and I love the accessories, especially since we are shoe twins. :)
I love the trinas. I even get excited when I see other people wearing them!
DeleteAww, I love it that you visited by adopted City; London is eclectic, crazy, gorgeous & just so cool. Camden town is so over the top isn't it? One time I was there some guy collapsed from probable drugs excess (the area is notorious for being a druggies paradise); I think he was ok in the end but one never knows what will happen there!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun; I've lived here 7 years and have yet to see some of the sights you visited so they are on my list. Don't some of the Pub names just crack you up?
Ahh the dreaded Olympics traffic and overall chaos- I plan to avoid it all as much as I can:)
You're a lucky gal, Lili. London is one of my fave cities ever - there's so much to explore, and the English countryside is gorgeous!
DeleteGood luck with the Olympics - London is going to be gridlocked!
I see a good person doing a good job!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!
DeleteGreat photos! London is on my list of places to see. I really like the color, texture and collar of that dress. :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Lisa! I've never been to London, so I thorougly enjoyed your photos from the trip. Am I correct to assume they're taken with your new camera? :) Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been using my Panasonic Lumix to take these photos - but I am still learning. AND getting used to hauling around a big camera! I haven't start outfit pics with the new camera yet though - am tardy to getting a tripod!
DeleteGreat photos :) I love reading through travel experiences and seeing travel photos! You are so lucky to be able to travel a lot for your line of work :)

Welcome back Lisa! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. I haven't been to London in ages and I'm itching to go back. My cousin is working there for a little while, so I just have to worry about getting the time off and paying for the airfare. Your pictures of Camden, Richmond, and Egham look pretty cool. I'll definitely have to check them out the next time I go.
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous in the Four Corner dress. I'm really kicking myself that I didn't pick that one up. I kept going back and forth about and decided that I didn't need it, but it's so cute.

that sounds like an awesome trip, even if it was for business, and it rained. traveling to great beautiful cities has to be even a little fun no matter the circumstances.
ReplyDeletelove your red dress too, the hemline is great!
Chic on the Cheap
Though I would prefer "shine," I made the most out of my trip to the UK. I just wish I had more free time for exploring!
DeleteWelcome back! Sounds like you had a great trip and thank you for all of the photos. I love London too - I have visited several times and never get tired of it. There's always something new to see.
ReplyDeleteAw, London is a fave city for me as well. Lovely pix... And lovely dress:)
ReplyDeleteYou dissed us for London? Okay, you're forgiven, but just th' one time. Seriously, great pics and thanks for sharing. Man, I love shortbread cookies and would be as wide as I am tall if I had access to them daily.
ReplyDeleteI love this bright red dress with your simple accessories. So hard to go wrong with Forever21 jewelry :)
I did dis everyone for London - and I'd do it again if I could go back soon, bwahahaha!
Deletesuch a pretty red dress! and boy, do i miss traveling!
ReplyDeleteI think I've said it before, but I L.O.V.E. those sandals. They may be the best footwear ever invented in the history of shoes (fine, maybe just in the summer of 12). I would also love to visit London, but I think I need to actually get on a plane for the first time in the States before I try anything over entire oceans. Glad you enjoyed your visit!
ReplyDeleteHigh five on the trinas, I love them too!
DeleteAs for the flight, figure it is about 6 hours to London coming out of the NE - and about 4 hours to the West Coast from the NE. So what's another two hours to hit a whole new country? ('Cause that's how I roll - not. But it's fun to try to justify things sometimes!)
DeleteThe photos are gorgeous!!! WOW
