Variations on a Theme

Orange, blue, touches of white. As many different kinds of pieces as I like to try to throw together each week, I seem to always lean towards this particular color combination lately. There's something classic yet modern about it and the bright splash of the punchy orange is right up my alley. A HUGE achievement for a gal who for years stayed away from any citrus-y hues because I always assumed they didn't look good on me.

I'll keep myself from being overly-verbose since this post is more self-photo heavy than usual. But you can tell how I've been adoring these colors together. J.Crew may have single-handedly changed my personal color palette by releasing this in-your-face orange called "modern red" (aka "bright flame," aka "poppy," aka "cerise," aka "tangier orange," aka ...). And I know, I know, it's not like J.Crew discovered colors or anything, but they sure know how to put them on pretty skirts and shirts.

Here are some looks of me in my fave color combo from this past weekend, yesterday and pre-hair shearing.

What sweet combination of colors can you not get enough of recently?

  2. This combination looks great...it's like a modern take on classic red, white, and blue! I have stayed away from the tangerine hue...I feel like it would just wash me out but it looks fabulous on you.

    1. I used to think all citrus hues washed me out but then I thought what the heck and tried them - and now love them! I think this orange-red shade would look great on you! And shoot, if you still think it washes you out but like the color, you could always just wear it on your lower half.

  3. Oo I LOVE the last one with the gold collar - Amazing! It really is a great color, and while Jcrew certainly didn't invent it - they did market it well, and their catalogues have done a great job showing us all how to wear colors in unexpected ways!

  4. I've been on an orange and blue thing lately too I notice--but separate. Navy outfit, orange outfit. Don't really know what's up with that.

I love that you are wearing orange because it really is a great color on you! I love the casual outfit the most too!

  6. I LOVE all of it. I have been obsessing much about orange. The last 3 shirts I bought were a bright orange and I am usually more of a fall neutrals type gal. Love the 3 looks you have. You have the best knack for finding amazing Forever21 items. Those short and tee are so chic together.

    1. These sandals are super-comfy - only thing that I don't like about them is that they make a sound on the floor so I end up clacking around.

  10. Shoe twin!! They look great on you and I love those F21 shorts in the first pic.
Orange and blue make for a great combination, so if it's working, keep rocking it! I haven't really tried it lately, but I'm really loving purple and yellow together.

    1. I love the tippy sweater, it's not body-hugging but it still kind of skims over everything in a pleasing manner. Plus there are a bunch of material options out there right now for all seasons.

I haven't tried out orange + navy + white, but I just might have to now -- going to find the only orange shirt I own and try it out soon. :)

  16. I love how you work those BC wedges as you're flawless in them while I would fall flat on my face! That last outfit has to be my fav, and I too have been taken over by JCrew's bright color-marketing-bonanza!!

  17. J. Crew is ruining my life. And by my life, I mean my bank account. Seriously I cannot stop shopping there! I just saw the modern red chino shorts are on sale, and I am SOOOO tempted to just snap them up! I love how you've mixed these colors - right now I'm on a pink and navy kick (helped out with a new J. Crew sweater. I told you I had a problem.).

  21. Blue and orange is one of my favourite colour combos this season, but I only own one orange item and it's a hooded jacket :) The one colour, however, that REALLY dominates my closet is pink. And stripes (which isn't really a colour) so of course I'm drooling over the maxi look.

  22. I want your shorts! They are stunning. Such a great graphic print. And great colors together too!

  40. I was really into mint green and gray for a while, but lately it's been (black and white) stripes and beige or stripes and teal. I know stripes isn't a color but I'm just going to blindly assume everyone doesn't care.
